I think it kinda has to do with muscle memory. Like bball players (usually) never pass half court or step out of bounds bec their surrounding are seared into their heads. But still scary
I kinda hate they downgraded it just because it became popular. It was really hard to do well. The code should be based on DIFFICULTY not what the technical committee decides they want to see.
@@Idontconsentnorgivepermission tbf it's very unlikely that will happen. I think a big part of it, is it doesn't flow very well. Nowadays performances get judged on how fluid they are too
@@Idontconsentnorgivepermission Tbh, I worry about their safety regardless off their mounts or routines. Gymnastics in general are usually dangerous/risky
Bro hire me as a gymnastics judge. I’ve never done so much as a cart wheel in my entire life I’ll give you guys and gals all perfect scores. What you do is amazing.
Honestly kudos to them for maintaining that pose for those 5 seconds bc I cannot imagine the pain of wood pressing into my skin and chest whilst upside down and having to keep my balance. 💀 You go girls!🔥
The first time I ever saw this it amazed me so much I kept watching it over and over...still trying to figure out how these Gymnastics don't smash their faces on the beam. Looks super difficult and Kool..
I hated doing the candle mount when I was younger, training for it always left me with so many bruises and doing the actual mount always hurt my arms 😭 I’d psych myself out so much beforehand
@@laurelcook9078 I'm a gymnastics coach and our upper level gymnasts legit have like no fear. Once kids learn to control/use their muscles properly and know the proper form for skills they're much less timid (some of my younger kids have only recently figured out the controlling muscle aspect and as a coach it's scary af cause they think they can just whip out Simone Biles level shit and nail it). Plus gymnastics is one of a handful of sports that you're gaining new skills instead of just perfecting ones you learned first starting out, so for a lot of gymnasts fear doesn't factor into it, they want to challenge themselves and gain skills that are harder and more technically difficult.
@@kellyb6198Why so much emphasis on the Wolf Turns then? Everybody hates it. The gymnasts hate stopping the fluidity of their routines to set up and get their balance and then perform it, and spectators hate it because it never fits into any routine on beam or floor. It's ugly. Sure the skill is difficult but that's not the type of challenge the gymnasts enjoy. They like things they can fit into their skills. A Wolf Turn never does.
@@sixmercer2504 1) No one mentioned wolf turns so not sure why you're bringing them up. 2) not everyone hates them as much as you seem to. 3) my point is that gymnasts like a challenge, I never said they love every single skill or whatever. Just that they like a challenge, which is true. Also not all gymnasts are constantly focused on whether or not a skill will fit nicely into their routine. If any of my kids go to open gym at some point they'll work on some skills that aren't in their routine. Specifically because it's hard, they just want the challenge even if it's a skill they hate.
I remember when I learnt how to do a candle mount, I was terrified but it wasn’t too hard! I personally think it should be a fan favourite in the Olympics it’s quite satisfying to watch lol
Despite not being the biggest fan of gymnastics as a whole, this is still incredibly impressive and I feel bad for those who liked the Candle Mount. A lot of people seem to say it seriously hurts the arms though, so I can see why gymnasts didn't pull this one out very often.
It is my favorite mount. First time I saw it my heart almost stopped in fear and I still get that kind of excitement every time I see it because it looks so difficult and dangerous but they do it so well! I never learned it and never will but I love watching it!
Omg Ana Padurariu I literally watched her learn this mount in person and watched the struggle, she was and still is Truly inspiring! I can’t believe she’s now on my for u page!!!!
The way they downgrade such hard moves is insane to me. They want people to kill themselves for higher points IT'S INSANE compared to what it used to be, even 40 years ago
It was in college gymnastics a lot last season. This year a lot of gymnasts are skipping creative mounts and just putting one lag over to straddle the beam
From one particular outsider's perspective, it looks like half an element, like for example, it could be a candle mount straight into a windmill (breakdance), ending on a handstand. (Yes, I understand, dangerous, probably impossible, probably too much Wuxia, but) -the mount itself to me feels like it's not supposed to stop there.
Hopefully this means mounts are back! And if you wonder what I mean, go check out mounts popular in the 70s and 80s. This was just a blah mount at the most. In fact, most mounts now are. Yet the beam is one of the most exciting apparatuses. Maybe the exciting mounts are coming back!
“Never a fan favorite” How?!! The thrill! The suspense! The anticipation! The hope your favorite athlete isn’t injured! I dont know much about gymnastics but i know I’d be on the edge of my seat for this!
Honestly, my favorite was always the front half/full/tuck off the springboard onto the beam. SO FUN but SO SCARY because of splitting the beam. I reccomend wearing tight leggings the first couple attempts…
I am roughly potato shaped so am in no way qualified to have anything to do with gymnastics…… however…. That is absolutely astonishing! I have never seen it before and all I can say is how does this go DOWN a rating? That looks so difficult! And I’m a paramedic and my “accident waiting to happen” spidey senses are having a field day! How many shoulders/necks are hurt while learning to carry this off!
