Narcissism, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, alcoholism - these are just some of the labels that frequently get tossed around in custody litigation. Our guest today is going to talk to us about psychological testing - how we know when these labels apply, what they mean if they do apply, and how we can help parents navigate the very uncertain waters of co-parenting after a divorce.
Dr. Victoria Harvey is a License Psychologist and she frequently is called upon by the courts to conduct psychological testing to understand the patterns that we're seeing. She joins us on Episode 68 of The Jennifer Hargrave Show.

What would make a judge order an evaluation?? Would it be behavior they see in court, the spouse’s testimony/asking the court to do it? Or a little of all of these?

That’s a great question! Generally, the court can order an evaluation when custody is at issue - the parents are asking the court to decide where the children will live primarily, how significant decisions will be made (education, invasive medical, therapy), and/or the possession schedule the parents will have. Only a qualified professional can give an opinion after conducting an evaluation - including needs of the child, parenting skills, etc.
