To be perfectly honest, the last true *drivers car* from BMW is the E36 M3. You are much more connected to the road, and it feels way more raw than the E46. The E46 is a much better car in pretty much every aspect but it isn't as engaging to drive. It's bigger, it's heavier, it's softer, it's when BMW became more of a luxury car than a drivers car. I agree about the motors. Modern ///M motors are just regular motors with slightly bigger turbos and a difference tune. They aren't bespoke NA master pieces with different blocks and head castings.

@@placeholdername3206 I agree, when i had my e46 m3, it made me miss a much a lighter car that had a more connected feel. I had KW v3s on mine (refused polyurethane bushings, too harsh) increased front caster and reduced weight and it still just wasn't right. For a true motorsport from a road car I feel the car has to really carry its weight well or weigh around or under 2800lbs. And to really go there anything under 2000lbs like small roadsters, formula and karts is the way to go for that full on motorsport direct connection feel; like riding a lightweight sport bike.

what about Mitsubishi Evo and Subaru STI? Their acceleration is much better

おそらく、E46自体が年式的に（最終型で2006年式）自動車税の増税対象車（初年度登録から13年超で15％増し）になるので、敬遠されるからではないでしょうか。 実際に3200ccのM3の場合、3500ccクラスなので通常は58000円のところ、増税後は66700円になりますからね・・・
