「Astral Chain」Secret Boss [S+] No Damage || No Items || No IRIS (+Diary Entry)

I'm very sorry that I'm not able to upload a full 100% S+ playthrough of this amazing piece of art called Astral Chain because I just don't have the time on top of playing the game itself. And although that hurts me a lot I still wanted to do at least something in regards to this game and so I decided to record this run of the secret boss to upload it as well as editing kind of a diary entry at the end just to archive stuff.
Thoughts on Astral Chain on a whole:
Other than the fact that the Switch is holding this game back significantly(Frame Rate, Graphic Detail, Resolution etc.), I think PlatinumGames did their very best to make the game the best it can be on the Switch. I am actually amazed by how much I like this game because the trailers didn't look as interesting to me. Of course I would pick it up anyways because PlatinumGames made it. They have yet to dissapoint me. Let me rather break it down into some points to make it more clearly.
► Combat System:
While a bit lacking for me at first, I grew to like the mix of fast combat with a tactical approach. I was also surprised by the technical depth the game asks for to clear the post game challenges although I feel like many of the post game missions were a little bit too much "Run away until you see your 2 second opening". The Legion mechanics make for a very challenging and demanding combat on higher difficulty and since I love my combat fast and challenging, I really enjoyed it overall.
► Graphics & Animation
As already said, the Switch holds this game back a whole lot by being such a weak console. So it suffers of frame rate issues, low resolution and graphical details on the lower end. With that being said I still think PlatinumGames did the best they could to make it look appealing. Animations look extremely clean and elaborate as always, graphics are the best they can be for a Switch exclusive title and so I am still very positive on all this.
► Story/Plot/Presentation & Soundtrack
While having a very predictable plot with stereotypical characters without much background, the experience is held up by it's fantastic presentation. The great cutscenes in combination with the awesome soundtrack were an absolute joy to experience and although I think that the characters are very lacking overall I somehow still like some of them.

It sold well despite being a completely new IP but just being on Switch is not good for sales, so it might still be not as much on peoples radars as it should be, yeah.

I love the elegance you fought with In a certain way I prefer "cinematic" fights, more than "strategically effective" fights, such as those who just boost their attack, use fusion and spam the range attack

I’m glad I’m not the only one who cares about the “choreography” of the fight. I’ve literally spent hours fighting Jena in her basic form (same-size fights>>>), just to do something cool that I could record and watch in the gallery, whenever I wanted to (I’ve even done some crazy stuff like parrying her energy spheres by cutting them mid-air with sword legion, but then the rest of the fight was kind of regular, so I didn’t feel like recording it). Same with Aether, I was able to record a sequence in which I’m able to perfect-dodge every single one of her fists in her “rage combo” (like the one at 6:09), and then counter attack, and it felt sooooo good, satisfying and cool. I love action games and spectacular fight sequences

@@stunned_swallow Same size fights rock indeed, haha.Don't worry, I totally get you. If I wanna upload a fight, it has to look good, otherwise I'd feel like people will get bored honestly. Damn, perfect dodging the full flurry rush sounds extremely risky but also very cool.

It's true, there is a certain elegance to stringing together a variety of techniques, however there are some things I'd like to point out. This video doesn't display anything cinematic. If you watch it, you'll notice he's just spamming axe 360 command. It's an inferior version of the common axe stunlock that fails to meet the DPS checks to actually stunlock it or keep it from moving into phase 2 (using stun sync). That's fine though since Aether is very resistant to stun and has fast recovery. In no way am I trying to downplay the uploaders achievements, beating Aether without taking damage is a noteworthy feat. I'm probably overreacting but your comment about those who boost attack and spam fusion attack must be aimed at me since to the best of my knowledge, no one else has been able to achieve it. Something about your wording just feels off: "those who *just* boost their attack...", as if it were as easy as that. This makes me feel like the 400 hours I spent grinding ability chips and the 100+ attempts I put in to achieve it were for nothing and all my effort was dismissed as a simple cheap tactic.

@@Abarax I'm sorry you felt attacked by my words, it was not my intention to offend anyone😅 Indeed, I do appreciate "technical perfection" too (which means finding the perfect objects/power ups/settings to maximise, for example, damage and stun effect in this case), and I think that this "technical perfection" requires a good amount of effort and endeavor too, and this is quite evident in RPGs in particular (I can't but think about all the grinding required in Final Fantasy X to achieve the "perfect spherografy"). Having said that, I can comprehend the feeling of satisfaction someone feels when, after hundreds of hours of farming and grinding, he achieve the "best possible configuration", and I can see the beauty in it, but personally for action games such as Astral Chain, I prefer something more spectacular that allows you to feel the adrenaline the developers had in mind when making the game, but that's a personal choice and a personal taste, I don't want to insinuate that achieving the "perfect setting" is easy, it just make things easier later, but that doesn't mean there is no effort in reaching that perfection. Btw, do you really have 400 hours? I stopped playing and considered the game finished when I got the "Astral Perfection" achievement (so after I got all the achievements), and that took me 160 hours, I didn't think you needed 240 hours to get the required chips😅 Anyway, my compliments for all the patience and focus😂

I died four hours in this fight today but find it somehow less annoying than one of the astral plane missions. I hope I can finish it tomorrow, my tactics are mostly the same (I play much worse though) but I can't believe I haven't thought of equipping my beast with "less cooldown" because "Howl" is pretty much the only way I deal notable damage in the second phase. I agree with your views on this game, especially in "Peace" the Switch has serious trouble. Also I think Akira is not a really likeable character, and the voice actors were not anything special. He/she was annoying most of the time so the finale was not that impactful. However, something in this game motivates me to complete it, I think there's attention to detail, worldbuilding and a charme that few games of this genre have. For example, I've put only half the time in DMC5. As you've stated, the combat gets so much more demanding in Olive's cases than it ever was on ultimate and this last fight forces me to change tactics completely. I'd love to see your ability loadout for this fight, I've gone more offensive since my problem are the one hit kills. Keep it up. :)

I agree, there are much more annoying missions than this one. This boss is definitely very strong but some other missions are filled with ridiculous boss/enemy combinations that are way more demanding. Yeah, Howl is basically the best move for this boss. I wanna thank you a ton for taking your time and reading my description and I'm happy to hear that you agree with most of my views! =) I think Akira should also be seen as a vessel for the player to fit yourself into the story. He can't even be seen as a real character to be honest. I don't know my ability loadout anymore sadly, but it's a good tip for the future. I should really add my ability loadouts to my videos! Thanks!
