At 2:56 you see Gui's beaten body replaced by Kalmia's mother's dead body. The frame after that, Kalmia starts crying, it could be because she realised that she is doing what Gui did to her mother. She doesn't want to do the cruel things Gui did, she doesn't want to 'become' Gui. Then, Kalmia's mother comforts her and she gets the courage to finally finish him off. The frame switches from Kalmia to her mother at the part of the killing, I think Kalmia didn't really want to kill Gui, but after her encouragement from her mother she thought of it as avenging her. Edit: I think that at the end of Kilma, Kalmia realises what she did, instead of trying to turn back she embraces the new way of thinking. That's why in Shama, she shows characteristics of Gui (manipulation, mischief). Using it against Clay in hopes of not getting hurt anymore.
When he says "Punishment and poison is to be feared by the likes of horses and deer", it basically means "Only idiots fear punishment and poison" because if you put the kanji for Horse and Deer next to each other it makes the kanji for idiot
I made a comment about this! I think the line is mistranslated but since I don't speak Japanese I can't be sure. The alternative lines read along the lines of "there are no drugs that can be administered to horses and deer/that do not fear restraint nor poison fangs" where one did make the clarification of "horses and deer" meaning idiots. The same general theme applies here but what it's saying instead is you can't help an idiot who doesn't fear sanction (punishment/restraint) and poison.
i think it's just hard to translate intentional and alternative ambiguity especially if there's no like *translator's note* kinda thing or they don't realize it themselves
@@sampydampy yeah,, that's part of why I'm learning Japanese; I want to experience the music and media I like the way it was intended to be interpreted :))
@@sampydampy Yeah, it seems like a difficult line to translate. Unfortunately since not much has to be done to slap captions on youtube videos, it's harder to track which translations are reliable. I don't even know if this translator is in the database as being reliable or unreliable. But since there were two separate translations both using a line like that, and there are several instances of nonsensical or confusing lines in this translation, I feel it's less an ambiguity thing and more a lack of experience.
I think it was intentional because at 1:20 it looks like he collects eyes, horns etc as trophies of conquest. Since he took her mother’s eyes (and life), it’s time for her dues to be met too.
This is as good as Wozvald to me, but with better "storytelling". In Wozvald it was hard to understand everything. Here, if you pay attention to lyrics and details you understand everything, I like this one more, personally!
I don't see many people talking about it but can I just say I adore the split second of animation at 2:34 ? The timing with the music and the expression alone with the lyrics really just make you *feel* that righteous anger at all the cruel injustice that's befallen this character as they finally take the first strike at their abuser before they end them. Its so eye catching to me
right? the fact that is shows both the strike at the man and then her expression just means so much. plus something interesting is the darkish background, which contrasts with the sword (which looks completely white, like it's burning, they really wanted to emphasize that sword huh). anyways they did a really good job creating movement with minimal animation.
listen I'm really late , but i hope you are doing okay . no one should go through this and people who commit such things as SA really do deserve hell .
@@fattybunni Yeah exactly my thoughts. The fancy subs are cool and must take a lot of work, but they kind of defeat part of the purpose: help hard of hearing people understand what's being said.
serpentarius I think a way to improve it would be to have two versions: normal English sub then fancy English sub! Idk if that’s possible or easy, but if it’s not too much that would be cool! I really do appreciate all the work put into doing subtitles, it would just be nice to have options,, because I have trouble reading/keeping up with how fast the fancy the subs are and the way they change from black to white with a black background.
1:27 a light feminine voice sings about her captivity. 1:38 the feminine voice is still there but softer as a deeper voice starts singing. 1:44 he tells her to shut up. She does. He sings about keeping her in captivity. Edit: I'd like to add that the soft voice at 1:38 also sounds like it's mocking the masculine voice as he sings. That paired with the "how noisy" and how the feminine voice stops right after it... the storytelling he does with his voice is insane.

Sitting here watching the movie without listening to the music and only reading the JP lyrics and still confused as fuck what's going on. (I HAVE LIKE 0 BRAON CELLS)
2:41 probably my favorite part I've read the comments saying that "ai wa nai" sounds like "eye for an eye" That and the way "The girl danced" was sung sounded so hopeful and magical in a way i can't describe And finally the powerful emotional scream, dude really just went all out and i appreciate that I'm just really obsessed with the song at the moment, gonna listen to this on repeat
A bit of a weird comment, but I love all the extra little details put into mi_yuu's vocal covers. Like the "Hey, hey!"* at 1:05, "How noisy." at 1:44, and the yell at 2:50. It's little things but the way he does his vocals just fits so well with every cover he makes. Edit: DAMNN did this get popular? Uhh,,, thanks??? I’m not. Sure what to say. Um. People have some cool thing to say when their comment gets popular, but I’ll just. Uhhh. Thanks for enjoying this comment, and this video! It was really interesting to get to see all of y’alls takes on the sounds in this video. I really love how mi_yuu plays a variety of characters within the songs in his lovely voice, and emphasizes certain feelings that they are going through. It’s very mindblowing for me to see how much he’s put in his covers. *Yes, I’ve made a grave mistake by saying “Hey, hey!” instead of “はい、はい!” or “Yes, yes!” in this comment. Thank you for pointing that out! I believe I got confused because an earlier translation of the video had the “Hey, hey!”, though I may be wrong. In any-case, I’m not going to really edit the original message, but instead put an asterisk by it to point to what I’ve wrote here.

the song: dark topic me: *the character designs are so well done and the way they smoothly do the anatomy they must have been drawing for a while mm their mind is very creative to come up with such characters that fit the story line wow*
i love how good the animation is but then the linearts themselves look like they couldve been done in fukkn ms paint with a bit of effort, its a style thats instantly recognizable and it gives it a sort of texture that gives it a lot of character without having to commit to animating more elaborate and excessive designs yeah, really striking
Finally the victim gets revenge how many times I've seen the victim not being able to kill like *if I kill you I won't be any different* and she's like *if I kill him here this hell will fade..*
Killing people like that man should get you a free ticket to heaven because you're stopping them from hurting people. If you dont do it, so many more will experience what you have. We're taught this complacency and that revenge is some sort of sinful terrible thing done only by people who are just as bad, and this is taught because people want morals to get in the way of the repercussions. Revenge is the best karma.

Kalmia's small braid at the beginning of the video is supposed to symbolize youthfulness (0:10). Braids are usually associated with childishness. At 1:31 is when her braid goes undone, because she is now in sex trafficking and lost her (mental) youth. Also, at 1:36 Livara even focuses that Kalmia's braid is gone. The reason why female servants under Gui bear braids is because sex trafficking takes people's youth away. Making them wear braids is insulting to their own youth, especially for Kalmia because her small braid was likely done by her mother.
It took me a bit of time to figure out why it sounded like that, especially in this cover, and I thought it was really interesting? Typically the way that phrase is transliterated is as "ai wa nai" but the hiragana used for "wa" is actually "ha", and h and f are pronounced the same in Japanese. So the pronunciation was slid more towards the f side of the syllable! I'm not sure if this is just how he pronounces that sound or if it was on purpose to add that play on words, but I really love it! Sorry if you already knew all of that, I literally just figured it out but I thought it was too cool to keep to myself l-lol
friskgoldflower I’m pretty sure he did say ‘ai *wa* nai’. It probably just sounds like that due to how raspy the lyrics are sung, but regardless the quality and attention to detail in Miyuu’s vocals/covers are amazing.
friskgoldflower Im trying to learn Japanese right now and the way he said that phrase made it fly over my head. But I’m pretty sure he does say “wa” though the way he sings it makes it sound a little different, like “fwa” or “wo”. It does make it sound somewhat like eye for an eye, but you cant use the “ha” or “fa” type of pronunciation when using the “wa” topic particle, as done in this phrase. (Sorry if this was uncalled for, I just felt like explaining? 😅)
@@mizutsunecafe9633 it would be cool if that was an intentional play on words, but i think the reason for that is that in some languages when the "w" sound is spoken intensely it can become closer to a "v" or "f" sound (for example in chinese dramas you hear this all the time) so i think that's what's happening here
I just realized that the girl Livara (mint colored eyes) killed the mercenary dude that tackled Kalmia when she was kidnapped, you can see a scene with the dude bleeding from the head and then it goes to a shot of Livara with blood on her face. She was waiting for Kalmia to come and finally free them, this was her chance.
@Anime Otaku I’ve heard theories that Armis was jealous of Kalmia getting to “do the dirty” with Gui Oakes, and was trying to poison Kalmia at 1:58, but now I’m starting to feel like all 3 of the servant girls (Armis, Livara, Kalmia) had been plotting to kill everyone at the party: with Armis poisoning the guests’ drinks and giving Kalmia’s sword poison to ensure Gui’s death. I think that since Kalmia killed Gui herself and Livara killed Ron, those deaths were more personal; so I’m starting to wonder what grudge Livara had against Ron
@@toonneey I'm not sure that Armis is on the same side as Kalmia here. Wooma's Instagram post describing her states that she's secretly trying to be favored by Gui, so I think the jealousy theory is more likely. The same post says she's been part of Alacran longer than Livara, and so longer than Kalmia, so the fact that Kalmia rose to become Gui's favorite so quickly is probably a sore spot.

Realizing Livara probably is Clay's mother makes it all the more sad, I think. Livara had her child taken from her (or rather, was taken from her child) and Kalmia had her mother taken. I think that's part of why Livara really didn't want Kalmia to die. Normally in that situation, if you could give someone the ability to kill themselves then that would be the "best" option - after all Kalmia at that point was a weak and depressed person, and she knew no matter what she would be trapped for her entire life. Yet Livara probably stopped her because she saw a daughter in Kalmia she no longer had. A kid without a mother. She even looks sad in the end, looking down on Gui and watching as Kalmia walks away. Maybe not only because Kalmia did what she couldn't, but because now she would have to bear the consequences. Perhaps in the end when Kalmia is shown changing appearances, this isn't only for us to see how the story comes together, but Livara herself seeing what she hopes Kalmia's future will be like... eventually, free and happy, as if nothing had ever happened.
@@semi3847 The names are given in the credits of the ends of this song and Shama (the second part of the series). The artist also clarified online which names correlate to which characters.
@Egglit Egglet Hi! I’m going to try to explain it a bit. There’s quite a few reasons why we theorize that Livara is Clay’s mother. It takes much attention to detail. The flashing images at 2:05 on this video (Kilmer) show a mother with a child, and then that child hiding someplace (presumably like Kalmia and her mother did at the beginning of this video, but unlike Kalmia, the child was successful in hiding from the bad guys). Also, at the very beginning of this video, we see Kalmia walking into a church. From looking at Kalmia’s hairstyle (before it changes into Young Kalmia’s hair), it is evident that this is older Kalmia, after having assassinated Gui Oakes (evil dude that killed Kalmia’s mother). If you watch the flashing images of 1:12 on Shama, we see a child with the same haircut (and blue eyes, like Livara’s), holding a cross, encountering Kalmia. We can presume that this is in the church Kalmia visits, and some may go as far as to say that Livara was telling Kalmia about this child at 2:05 of Kilmer, which is how Kalmia locates the child. Furthermore, at 2:02 of Shama, in the same way that Kalmia wears a prison uniform and then flashes into her younger self wearing the dress from the party she assassinated Gui Oakes at, Clay Pool flashes into the child from the church, signifying to the viewer that it was indeed Clay Pool in the past. There’s a few other small things, such as the difference in how Livara and Clay Pool appear. Livara has prominent bottom eyelashes and her bangs fall over her right eye; Clay Pool has neither, and seems noticeably younger and has different mannerisms than Livara. Also, with what Crimilly has said, it would make sense that Clay Pool couldn’t be Livara since Livara views Kalmia as a daughter of sorts, while Clay Pool is romantically attracted to Kalmia. I hope this helps!
Same level as the original? Nah, this is wayyyy better than the original, the original is trash for me, it's just so robotic, but a lot, not like the other vocaloids.
@@TotaIIy I don't think so. "Robotic voice" would of course be there since it's vocaloid. loves how throughout the whole video, Kalmia is shown wearing a seemingly long, white gown (white being a symbolism of purity) then at the end of the video, she's shown wearing a pitch black dress (black being a symbolism of corruption) as if she gave up her purity.
There's some story telling in her hair as well. The long, unrestricted hair in the beginning shows she is free, with only a small braid to hold in her bangs (I interpret this as naivete). When she's taken by Gui, she loses this naivete, unwinding the braid and leaving her with the sharp, wild bangs that curve around her face. When she is more officially incorporated into his slaves, her hair is pulled back into a braid, but her bangs are still free. The hair in a braid communicates that she's now "bound" and owned, and this is a hairstyle forced on her and his other favorites by Gui, probably for exactly that reason, however the other girls are not given as much freedom in their hairstyle - they have little in the way of bangs, and their braids are much skinnier and tighter than hers, showing us that Gui's hold on her is very weak compared to the others; she's still very much wild. Her hair remains in this style, if anything looking sharper in Shama, because she's still "bound," only now it's by the state rather than Gui. It's assumed she cuts off most of her hair when she escapes the prison in Shama, symbolizing her no longer being restricted by anyone, left only with those sharp bangs that frame her face, showing us she is no longer able to go back to her "pure" state ever again.
She was kind of forced into the black dress, if you think about it. It was so that she can attend Gui's action as somebody important. It represents how her purity and innocence was stolen from her by the same man that took everything else.
This might just be a coincidence but when he sings “there was no love here, this is no love” (2:41) it sounds like he’s saying “eye for an eye” and... man.... 😔😔
Oh my god! I was listening and heard that too! Even with how long I've been studying Japanese I can't miss moments like that where the context fits things too perfectly, but ironically in an English way! I'm so glad someone else at least heard it in that moment!
I just realized that the way Miy_yuu pronounces the line "There's no love here" (ai wa nai) sounds like the English phrase "Eye for an eye," which refers to someone who was wronged taking revenge against the one who wronged them. Considering the ending, it fits in REALLY well with the dynamic between Kilma and her jailer. It's a really cool nod to the overseas English-speaking community!!!

This is an absolute masterpiece and he was really able to capture the turmoil and anguish of Kalmia. And the fact that he sang most of the song in his higher feminine-sounding voice was perfect. Beautiful and chaotic as always, Yuu! Keep up the amazing work! ♡ The screams as Kalmia gets her revenge on her captor are everything. They sound so tortured, but determined. And somehow sad? It's almost like a battle cry. Truly gives you goosebumps 18/12: 遊さんお誕生日おめでとうございます!素晴らしい1年になりますように!
completely agreed :) i loved the original SO MUCH and was really really excited to see it for the first time even though i'd heard the song and seen the movie many times before, this video felt entirely new, especially in the last chorus there's something about vocaloids you just can't get from humans, and likewise, there's something in the natural voices of people that you can't get in vocaloids^^
things i noticed towards the end: -the parallel of the green-eyed woman (Livara) staring at kalmia's back is the same look clay had when she aided in kalmia's escape - the repetition of severing the "velvet rope". kalmia's braid resembles a rope and her hair is pink. when the song ends, u see images of kalmia in different stages of her life, one of which she has short hair, supposedly, severing the "velvet rope." -yuu's little bit of "Shama"
Ok, so I was wondering what exactly is the correlation between Kilmaa and Shama? Cause there’s obviously hints but I’m just too stupid to connect the two... 😂😅
@@user-iw6gw1sj8g I believe it's a multi-song kind of story, so while there isn't a clear connection between the two, there are little hints in parts of the video about clay's (charakter from shama) mother, kalmia's overall story and little tidbits. This is just what i gathered from reading comments and studying the video, you can read some good lengthy comments that go deeper into the story
for the severing rope thing theres another theory: "The lyrics use the word “velvet rope” a lot, as in the red velvet rope that is used as a gate to limit entry into usually luxury/special places that are meant for people who have special access. This might be symbolic for how Gui gives Kalmia special treatment and “love” by letting her in his “velvet rope” or his world, making her believe that she is someone special to him. However, by going to the other side of the rope, Kalmia is imprisoned to him. His “velvet rope”, or his “love” is what ties Kalmia down and restricts her freedom." creds to milktiara on tumblr!!
Fun fact: in 1:58 the lyrics say "there are no drugs that can be administered to horses and deer..." and actually the Kalmia flower (like the name of the song) is poisonous to both animals. Edit: Also, to add to this, the lyrics say 馬と鹿 (ba to ka), which literally means "horses and deer", but because of the unusual pronunciation of them in the song ("ba" and "ka" instead of "uma" and "shika" which is how they would usually be pronunced), we know it refers to the word 馬鹿 (baka) which means idiot. So the lyrics here have a double meaning.
that's... insane. Not to mention the fact that in Japanese, the characters "horse" and "deer" put together actually spells idiot, that's a whole new level of language right there
Well the two men who kidnapped kalmia maybe are represented like the horse and the deer and well if kalmia flower is toxic from both animals, its a metaphor to how kalmia killed that man. (Sorry for my bad english)
I don’t know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but if you listen closely at 3:21 There is a faint voice singing the beginning of the previous song, Shama.
I love how when he's speaking the guy's lines he adds another version of the line over it that says it mockingly. Like "This is your fate!" Has a second version dropped over it that just fits the song so well and sounds great.
I just watched Arandano, and it gives me the chills. After watching this again, I think Kalmia is a victim of a war or something where the country/kingdom they're from also keeps their kind as prisoners. Kalmia and her mom flee to a place where her kind stays hidden due to the fact that they stay young forever. The country/kingdom they're from probably lost in the war, and Ron, the guy who shows Gui the horns of Kalmia's kind, probably told Gui that they found hints to where they are hidden. From the Arandano mv, Gui might've become a soldier of high ranking. Gui then kills their kind, then takes Kalmia as a prisoner/prostitute. Although, at the end of Arandano, Gui might've actually liked Kalmia, but didn't know how to show his love, and instead cruelly treats her the way the orphanage he was in treated him. Kalmia kills Gui, and Gui smiles either because he got Kalmia to resent killing him or because he's finally released from this hellhole. Kalmia then goes to jail, where she meets Clay, who may or may not have grown up in the same orphanage Gui was from. Anyway, my brain juices are drained out, so I think I'll edit this later...?
I think the white haired slave(I forgot her name sowwy) is related to clay since the both have blue eyes and white hair. Not sure who the guy in the orphanage is, maybe also related cuz the white hair?
@@aaAAA-- I agree with you! she had some sort of flashback at one point where you could probably see a child, presumably clay. I also forgot her name hasdfghjagdjhs but yes, others have a similar thought as well. As for the guy, he may have been someone Gui might've met in the military or he's some sort of assassin...
i really really like the lyric "conveniently heaven allows such things to happen without punishment" because the first time it's used (1:00) it's out of sarcasm that her mother was killed and her fate was so cruel rite?? but at the end of the video when she says it again (2:29) it's like she's reclaiming it, using the cruel turn of events as a source of strength to do unto others as they've done to her. powerful stuff.
