This is how normalcy bias works. In indonesia, kaela will probably just be average, or even have weak spice tolerance when compared to other indonesians, but if she is in Japan she is seen as special and something else. I've noticed that some foreigners like me find some japanese food to be too sweet or too sour, but a Japanese might think it's not even sweet at all. Is this the reason why Japanese take konbini food for granted, meanwhile us foreigners will praise konbini food as amazing?
Indonesian konbini food sucks though, and a lot of foreigners do praise Japanese konbini food. At least in Germany I didn't find the supermarket food to the extent of the Japanese with its quality and variety.
