It could have been imagery or it could have not, but some people of Gensyoko did manage to resist the madness that came from the outside world before the real madness intensified, perhaps the ones that had a better mental stability and memories from the past were the ones that had more control? Either way, it's just so sad that (pretty much) everyone from Gensyoko is dead... None of them deserved any of this...

Maybe they just need to kill Koakuma since she's the reason "they can't reincarnate."

+kisamelou23 you could take it a step further and try to convince her that patchouli could be protected from the lunarians so that Koakuma would stop using her power. This actually seems like the most likely thing to happen now.

From what we have seen, Yukari hasn't been able to use her borders in any way shape or form, unless it's because she hasn't managed to control Koishi's body well and her powers are blocked (since Koishi's body dudes with Yukari's) it's hard to say if she would be able to use them at all, but I guess Koishi's ability Is quite beneficial for the two, not being able to use her borders really complicates things. I honestly don't see a possible way for this to get a happy ending, sure, even if Koakuma it's defeated/killed or stops using the souls of the dead for her benefit and allows them to reincarnate, Gensyoko no longer exists, and the Lunarians completed their plans, so I imagine it would be more of a bittersweet ending, if reincarnation Is an actual thing in the Touhou universe, they would likely reincarnate as just mere humans, and if Koishi doesn't defeat the Lunarians (if that's even possible), they all would be in control of them, unless Yukari somehow manages to create another Gensyoko

Watatsuki sisters are actually Satori species that posessed Lunarian bodies. Their real goal is to fill the earth with Satori species, Reuniting Moon with Earth is just an excuse to achieve their goal so the Lunar Capital would support them.

Saigai Hikigane Canonically, Marisa is actually a fairly weak Touhou. The only reason she's strong is because of the spell card rules, without them, she's pretty weak. Anyway, if there were 10,000 Kaijus at once on earth, they would easily destroy Earth. Even 100 Touhou girls could easily do that, let alone batshit crazy, uppowered versions of them. They don't even need to work together.

Well, it might be for a different reason. 'Doki Doki' is the original word that translated to 'heart-throbbing', which can either mean 'heart beat due to love' or 'heart beat due to fear'. I feel this series has a bit of both in it. (Especially in the scene where Sanae tortured Kogasa)

Koishi would've not go berserk, Meiling and Flandre would've not get hurt, Yukari would've not be distracted. But it means Satori would have to take more active role on the surface Gensokyo to make sure everyone goes insane as planned. So it's still the same anyway. Tbh Satori didn't know that Moonlight Descent Ceremony would meant massacre of Gensokyo. Toyohime only told her that the ceremony would require lots of sacrifice, that it would be painful but the fruits worth the risk and pain. Satori knew it after it was too late.
