Yeah, I was expecting something much quicker and more impressive for the gangway. Some fancy Japanese mixture of efficient engineering and origami to complete the coupling in seconds, instead of something so basic (but functional). The standard old BR / Pullman type gangway is more advanced than that.
@III Vance actually, it's not over-engineered. It's a very reliable way of doing it with limited maintenance and not much that can break down. Most train doors run on air.
This design is Dutch and nearly 40 years old. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mIi2CDYG7jc.html Here you see it fully automatic. However since this feature is nolonger needed and the doorsystem was prone to technical problems, the renewd trainsets have lost/disabled this feature.
This Gang through head was originally introduced to Series 581 EMU and soon be Widely adopted by most of JNR’s limited express fleet such as 485 and 183. Since it rarely cause malfunction we can see wide use of the system nowdays.
@@EmperorAst It's from a financial point of view. Yes, it can be done in minutes, but you need three persons there, at the same time. And the time they are just standing empty handed with nothing til do, you need til pay for that as well.
I believe they're a bit newer, but Japan does make more use of combining trains than other countries I've seen. The coupling itself was automatic, but double-checking it as well as connecting the gangways. It does take more time, but it's effective
That is taking too long to couple up. A very complicated process. We have through gangway trains in the UK. The procedure can be done in less than 3 minutes.
ICM in the netherlands comes from these Japanese trains whe gave iot the nickname of Koploper aka you walk through the nose off the train to other section and Kop or head on top is where the machinist is sitting
because it is taking so much time to do the work for combine them NS deside to destroy the function and make it possible to make more saver space for the machinist..
Are the salaries in Japan so good on the railroad that even men make announcements at the stations? Or is it a recording? In the countries of the former Soviet republics, mostly women sit at the microphone.
