This is one of the nice double Decker bus in Hong Kong. I have driven this bus to The Peak in Hong Kong. This bus is powerful and easy to control. I'm glad to know that someone keeps it.

I'm a bus fanboy from Hong Kong. This bus has a great engine sound. It's very short in length and height as compared with a normal bus in Hong Kong. Absolutely a remarkable bus model. Nowadays almost all buses in Hong Kong are e50d and b9tl/b8l.......which is boring lol

Hey Nick, as an ex-CTB driver for a certain period my colleague and I drove 893 very often, this bus has very weak A/C (though I don't know much about the climate of New Zealand) and very heavy steering. These buses are beast on straight road but poor at cornering especially at wet roads. One sidenote to you, it is better for you to check the parts of the bus thoroughly, especially generators, air pump, etc.. There are some rumours decades ago that when CTB sold their Leyland Olympians to UK they've swapped good parts from sold bus with defective parts. And I believe they have done the same to these buses as well.

This bus is unique for Hong Kong, specifically made for the route to the peak in Hong Kong, more specifically, the low height to clear a low bridge on that road. I drove one of these as a training bus at Citybus.

@@busdrivernick yep, and these were not originally in the Citybus fleet. They were in the New World First Bus fleet until they retired from franchised bus service and transfered to Citybus for private bus/rentals, I am not sure if yours still have the special fuel inlet which accept the high flow fuel gun (full refill in about 2 mins). I remember they removed that feature and has to be refilled by normal fuel gun.. I remember this because I always tried to avoid following one of these when I refuel at the end of the shift.

Short length, low height and 3 axles it really is s strange product unique to Hong Kong. It was 3 axles because of outdated law in Hong Kong which required air conditioned bus to have 3 axles.. btw they are pretty wild in the rain, go easy with the gas paddle lol

Amazing! I click into this video as a saw a familiar bus with yellow red blue paint. That exactly the bus I ride everyday when I was in high school. Further watching the video it recalls my memory in the past: the decoration, the engine sound, the sound when it accerelates, and that beep sound when turning off the engine. I guess this model is still in service in some of the hill routes in Hong Kong. I'm glad that the key is now in the hand of the person who is enthusiastic about bus, or else it will probably be disassembled. Nice, that was the first bus type I have ridden in my life, but it was a Euro 2 bus, with a Cummins M11 engine and a Voith DIWA 863.3 gearbox. It sounds so cool when it goes fast. But it's sad to hear that these busses need to retire due to their age. But at least some of those busses are preserved in a bus depot in Kowloon.

Awesome video! Ever since I saw a photo of that bus when it first arrived, I've always wanted to have a walk-around of it. Thanks for allowing us bus enthusiasts to have a good look at these magnificent buses that OHBS restore. As you said, this will be great for tour and charter work around the Dunedin City area, and beyond. I actually own a few model buses produced by British model manufacturer Corgi. Out of my collection of 17 1/76 scale buses, 3 of my buses are Hong Kong Citybus Dennis Tridents, with 2 out of the 3 having Duple Metsec bodywork. The 2 Duple Metsec Tridents that I own are pretty much identical to the one you showed today except that my model versions are in a different Citybus livery. One of them is in an older version of the Citybus livery, and the other one has wrap covering the sides only leaving the livery visible on the front and rear of the bus. My 3rd Dennis Trident I own has ADL bodywork so the shape is different. Fun fact: Some of the Citybus liveries from the late '90s were designed to look like the Stagecoach livery because for a few years Citybus was owned by UK bus giant Stagecoach, which is why Citybus had Dennis Darts and Van Hool's from the UK, which some of were sent to Stagecoach Auckland after the ownership of Citybus changed to a Chinese transport group which still owns Citybus to this day.

@@busdrivernick Tridents are quite easy to find over here in the United Kingdom, however they’re the dual axle Tridents as opposed to the tri axles ones. Also Duple Metsec bodies don’t really exist here, instead there’s Plaxton bodies for them.

VOITH at that time had 4 gears tops. They have only recently introduced 5 speed Voith's, so this one would be a 4 speed, or maybe even a 3 speed.

Short length double decker fleet like 893, mostly serve in Island Southern district & the Peak Bus routes, such as NWFB's 9, 14, CTB's 6X, 6, 260, due to the road condition, allow lanes and sharp turns.

@@busdrivernick As a Hong Kong citizens, Nick I highly recommend u try the southern bus routes or a “Island coast Ring bus ride” when u have a trip to Hong Kong after COVID-19 : start at Island North coast Take 780 if start at Central, Take 8 if start at Victoria Park/Causeway bay; 1st u can try the Island Corridor how u travel top of the coast. Then, get off the bus at stop named “A Kung Ngam” when u exit the Island Corridor, for interchange Bus 14 to Stanley. On Bus 14, u can experience the side road of Hong Kong. Moreover, the bus will cross the Tai Tam Dam and it is a notable scenery of this Bus route. U can get of the bus 14 when u reach Stanley. There u can have meal and do some slight-seeing. At Stanley, u can take the minibus to Causeway Bay or bus to Central continue the “island coast Ring”

It’s Route 15 ran by New World First Bus (NWFB) which was the company that operated this bus back when it was under franchise. Upon retirement from franchised service, it was transferred to CityBus which ran them on Non-Franchised services such as 88R/61R and some other school runs. Hi Nick, when you were trying to select reverse I was 'begging' you to apply the handbrake/parking brake. I used to work in a couple of bus depots in England where I live and I don't remember a separate button for selecting reverse on Dennis buses. May have been one, but I don't remember it 😀 Lots of them required you to set the hand/parking brake first (especially the Volvo B10) Just found your channel and I am subscribing to you. As someone from the UK, it's a bit jarring seeing the early 2000s First bus interior on a bus from Hong Kong, that's in New Zealand. Tridents are awesome buses though and still quite common in the UK, I prefer the ALX Bodied ones though.

Nick it's a beautiful bus looks lovely and sounds nice.nick before you put it in reverse put the handbrake on first it's acting as it's been mistake. That will save pushing the safety switch. Just a little tip but great video keep them coming. 👍

Classic Dennis Tridents are amazing buses. The only thing I'd say is that I prefer the ALX500 body over the Duple Metsec, but otherwise awesome.

I haven’t had a lot to do with Dennis ‘ in the past , I have driven the odd Dennis tour coach , but that’s my first Trident, it’s gut me interested now, and I have been doing some research on the coach body s etc and the Dennis name 👍🏻🚌🙂.

@@busdrivernick I did the ALX500 version of this as an open-top bus in Hong Kong in 2019.....also when I lived in the UK I regularly traveled on the 2-Axle tridents with Stagecoach London, which were ALX400 bodied. UK tridents usually came with one of 3 bodies.....Alexander (ALX400), Plaxton President or East Lancs Myllenium. Some of the very very last tridents built were made with the Enviro 400 body or Optare/East Lancs Olympus body.

@@busdrivernick ADL Enviro500s and Volvo B9TLs are now the workhorses of Hong Kong's three main bus companies, with newer additions in the form of the Volvo B8L and MAN ND323F. Quite surprising to see we've had at least 3 generations (Olympian/Dragon - Super Olympian/Trident - Enviro500/B9TL) of Leyland/Volvo and Dennis buses plying our roads!
