I took a walk in Odairajuku, where private houses from the Edo period remain. The original scenery like the old Japanese satoyama remains. Odairajuku 7929 Kamiiida, Iida City, Nagano Prefecture 395-0045 Google map: goo.gl/maps/wt...

Ohdaira-juku(note: Juku ➡post town: Inns for foot travelers used during the Samurai period.) was an inn town that existed in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture. It is located about halfway along the Ohdaira kaido(note: kaido➡Highway in those days used by foot travelers, horses, etc. used in the Samurai era.), which connects the Nakasendo and Sanshu Highways (Ina-kaido). The buildings are scattered on a small flat area in the mountains called the Ohdaira Plateau at an altitude of 1,150 meters. In 1970, the residents decided to relocate en masse, bringing an end to the 250-year history of Ohdaira-juku. However, it is still maintained by volunteers. Today, it is preserved as "Irori-no-Sato Ohdaira-juku," and various events are held there on an irregular basis. Since April 2017, inquiries about lodging at the Ohdaira Inn have been handled by the Minami-Shinshu Tourism Corporation, which has been designated by Iida City to manage the inn. <The following is a comment from a Japanese tourist.> Almost no one comes to this sightseeing spot. People who go here to stay in an old house, because they can rent an entire house, aim to experience staying overnight. There is nothing to do. There is nothing to do but just hang out or take a stroll. Since this is also the entrance to a mountain trail, you will meet climbers. There is only a pay phone. If you are injured, it will take at least 40 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, but it is fun to be it like in the movie studio of the Edo period(Samurai era). A few houses have been renovated and have flush toilets, which is surprisingly not inconvenient if you only stay for one night.
