I remember when my grandpa passed. We gathered at the house. My grandma was being comforted by my mom and her siblings. A 12 yr old step cousin was walking around saying he wants this and that. I was livid, at 15, and went off on him.! "Who do you think you are? IF you get anything it'll be up to grandma! You're greedy. Have some respect!"

Good for you, little bastard needed to hear that. My mother-in-law died of metastatic ovarian cancer, and when my partner and I got home from the hospice, literally one hour after her death, we found her three middle-aged siblings, two sisters and her brother, going through her closet and all of her drawers and her jewelry boxes. My partner exploded, and told them, "my mother's not even cold and you lowlife they're stealing from her. Get the fuck out of my house!" (He bought that house before he and I moved in together, and let his mother move in and live there rent-free several years earlier.) I could not believe their gall! As it happens she left them nothing. She left most of her personal effects to another sister who lived on the other side of the country, and was the only sibling to whom she was close. She didn't even have a relationship with any of the thieves who were looting her bedroom!

I had an adult cousin who was going thru grandpas thing to claim them and was looking for gramps' pocket watch. I hid it. The cousin was escorted out with nothing. Grandma would decide who got what.

Sell everything and divide equally between siblings. I don't think in-laws have any claims to inherit unless they are owed money by the estate .
@Jerseybytes2
@Jerseybytes2 Год назад
they don't, but many think that because you inherit the money after the marriage that said money (or property) also belongs to them as well due to being married to the person who got the money. here's what these gold diggers forget: the person who inherits the money gained the ability to said inheritance by birth. that precedes marriage. so, unless there's a will that mentions them by name and how much or little they get, the answer is they don't get jack.

Right from the get go, I would have told Sandra ‘This is none of your business!’ Yet when _she’s_ asked why she’s in desperate need of money and how is it she’s struggling, Sandra tells her that’s none of her business. Well when you’re trying to steal a house that has nothing to do with you it is!
@jameygroves8561
@jameygroves8561 Год назад
Hey Sandra, you have ZERO claim to any inheritance. It's strictly between the siblings and anyone else named in the will. No, it isn't his 'birthright', those days are long gone. And Sandra, I would meet you at the door with a friend named Mossberg, followed by government employees to remove you. Then you'll get to explain to the judge your little theories of ownership.

Sandra: "I'm going to move into your house, and I expect you to be a good little boy and let me move in with no complaints. Understand?" Me: "If you try to invite yourself or move into my house, I will have the State Police remove you from the property."

Is it common for the eldest to inherit everything? Where I come from, the parent's assets are equally divided amongst the children.

You cant just "take" someone's house.. whoever name is on deed/loan papers is who the house belongs to.. sandra is a bobble head. How did she think she could move her lover into her SIL house without her husband knowing? Is she ok?😂😂😂
@CarmenFlores-id8dh
@CarmenFlores-id8dh Год назад
Is she okay? Considering what she does when her husband is away on business trips, considering that she assumes and presumes that Cathleen will take care of her son for her after she invades the house, while she goes out and does as she pleases, I would venture to say “not at all”: major airhead.

I'd tell her very firmly in writing that she is NOT getting to move in, she is NOT getting to claim any share, she does NOT have a say in what my brother & I decided between ourselves, and that I will call the cops and have them ready to arrest her for trespassing on her moving-in day. Screenshot, BCC all over the place, and get ready to press charges.

So, Sandra wants a house she is not entitled to, and cancel canceling her lease will make her homeless.
@jenniferrose6184

What’s with all these people thinking the son always inherits the house? That’s so anachronistic. What century is this? With no will, assets are split equally between the heirs.
@deaniej2766
@deaniej2766 Год назад
Most of these originate in Japan. What's normal in the US does not always apply in Japan. They hire mostly English language voice actors, but the script writers don't always understand the cultural differences. In many cases Japan is still a patriarchy. And their inheritance laws, in absence of a will, tend to favor primogenitor with males given precedence.

@@deaniej2766 , Spot on. BTW, one of the text sites seems to originate from Vietnam. Cultural differences definitely explain many of the weird scenarios.

I was terrified my sister-in-law would try to take my parents house, because she always felt the “son” should get it and most everything. I ended up getting the house and all money was split 50/50, mind you, she made these comments to our parents 🤦‍♀️ My brother is very sweet, but never will stand up to his wife

Common in Japan and China at least. I knew someone who lived in a business’s company dorm when I lived in Japan. And some colleagues who worked for other schools lived in faculty apartment complexes owned by their schools. Really cheap. I wasn’t so lucky!

As long as the children of the deceased are present, no one else can, especially spouses of the children poke their nose in the inheritance matter. Until and unless they have been authorized by the concerned inheritor. Never entertain BIL's or SIL's to discuss about your parents inheritance. They only have the authority when their spouse are deceased.
