I ran a route that passes through the northern foot of Japan's famous mountain, Mt. Ontake.
At the eastern foot of Mt. Ontake, flowing lava has been eroded by rivers, forming a deep gorge. The Kosaka River that flows through this valley is known for having hundreds of waterfalls large and small, including Neo Falls, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Waterfalls. However, it is difficult for us to see these waterfalls due to the rugged terrain.
Prefectural Route 441, the main route from National Route 41 to Nigorikawa Onsen at the 6th station of Mt. Ontake, does not pass through this gorge, but instead takes a large detour to the north. The road is narrow and there are some places where it is difficult to leave, but until 2007, route buses were in operation.
