Great to see you play another Buddy Rich Chart CrazyGasMaskMan. You did an excellent on on Away We Go and I saw Buddy play live many times that chart. Your left hand comping to the music is one of the hardest things to do in drumming in these type of demanding charts and you did an excellent job.. Wonderful feel for the music and of course that is the most important thing that a drummer must do.It`s not about doing just the horn hits,or knowing where the breaks are,but to drive the Big Band with your feel for the music.That is why rock drummers when they try this type of music has no feel for swing or jazz and it just sounds bad.But you being so young have a great feel for Big Band jazz. Learning from the best,Buddy Rich is why you sound so good.I know you were just copying Buddy`s solo,but maybe next time,just do something in his style and make it your own.I got to talk to Buddy many times about drumming and he always told me to just play how you feel and make it exciting. Thank you! I’m glad you watched this. You know, how i play and what I like is totally different from recent popular music so people here sometimes see me like weird guy. But I swear that I will learn from Buddy forever, even though what he left us are only his videos and his words. Well I think I’m not good enough yet to play the solo, making up my own. But hey, I try it when I play with my band. Sometime I could do it well, but sometime I mess it up too. So I copy his solos, just like remembering syntax when I study the language. I watched Just In Time! That is an awesome chart and I really wish i could play that in my band too! I really liked the little arrangement you make in the horn soli. We have gigs coming up on this weekend and we’ll play Apples you gave me for the first time. It was supposed to be in October but it was cancelled because of the huge typhoon. I’ll take the video of it and show you for sure!
Let me tell you CrazyGasMaskMan that you are good enough to do your own drum solo! Just play it in the Buddy Rich style which is to play how you feel and make it exciting. You have excellent technique and feel for this Big Band music.
