I live in Sapporo. The food here is a little different from being salty and may have a strong flavor. In general, eastern Japan seems to have a stronger flavor than western Japan. Since it is a cold region, people seem to like the distinct taste. In fact, people here have high blood pressure.
I heard from many that Sapporo food is very salty; ramen, curry, fried chicken, tempura...were said to be much more salty than those in Tokyo. Is it true? Which prefecture or city do you think have the best taste in food (your own opinion)
Generally, it is said that the Kansai region, such as Osaka and Kyoto, has a lighter flavor, while the Kanto region, such as Tokyo, has a stronger flavor. However, I don't think the difference is so big that it feels salty. The individuality of whether the flavor is strong or light depends on each restaurant, and I think there are some restaurants in Hokkaido that have deliciously light flavors.
