Thank you so much for your comment ❤️ There’re lots of forms for verbs in Japanese. At 5 level (N5 for the JLPT), there are masu-form, dictionary form, nai-form, ta-form and te-form. 🍄”masu-form” or Polite form is the form of verbs that is used in polite and formal conversations (with your boss, the person you’ve met for the first time etc.) This kind of form always ends with “MASU” so it’s called ます形(masu - form). e.g. わかります(wakari masu) : understand (formal) 🍄”Dictionary form” (or じしょ形 in Japanese) is the plain form (that you can find in dictionaries) or the informal present affirmative form of verbs (compared to masu-form which is formal) e.g. わかる (wakaru) : understand (informal) 🍄”nai-form” or Negative form is the negative plain form of verbs that ends with “NAI”. e.g. わからない (wakaranai): Don’t understand There is rule of changing verbs from their polite form or dictionary form to negative form. Group 2 “➖masu ➕nai”: tabe masu(eat)-> tabenai (don’t eat) Group 3 “➖masu ➕nai”: shi masu(do) -> shi nai (don’t do) Group 1: “ I-> A ➖masu ➕nai”: wakaRI masu (understand) -> wakaRA nai (don’t understand) 🍄”ta - form” or past plain form of verbs is the form that ends with “TA” or “DA”. e.g. wakari masu (understand) -> wakatta (understood) 🍄”te - form” is the conjugated or conjunctive form of verbs that end with “TE” or “DE”. e.g. kawari masu (understand) -> wakatte (The rules of changing masu - form or dictionary form to te - form and te - form can be found in this video) There’re more forms of verbs to be learned at Level 4 (N4) such as Volitional form, Imperative form and Negative Imperative form. But first of all, make sure to remember the above 5 most basic forms of Japanese verbs. I hope this helps😊 Please feel free to ask Bonbon’sjlesson any question at any time ❤️
