I think the difference between a family room and a living room is formality. A living room is more for entertaining guests and the family room is more for just hanging out with your family. But practically they are interchangeable.
the difference between a condo and an apartment is whether the tenant owns the unit they’re living in. in a condo, each resident owns their space, but in an apartment they are just renting from a landlord/company
Here's a fun fact, the 'living room' is a modern re-branding of the 'parlor room,' which in the European tradition was the more formal reception room in the house, hence why it's in the front of the house. The re-branding comes from that, amongst other reasons to take visitors, it was where you would have the viewing of the dead.
