Japan specially requested India to include its top-of-the-line Su-30MKI in the mock battles. Japan wants to learn how to defend against similar Sukhoi planes from China.. except Su-30MKI is much advanced. Update: India already has performed several Air exercises with US and its western allies for many years so it knows F16 and other US aircraft well. This is purely advantageous to Japan, make no mistake. India is helping Japan to learn how to counter Sukhoi planes which China also owns. And also to improve defense ties with Japan. Remember, Japan, India, US and Australia are part of the QUAD. I need to make this clear because in Japan generally people are ignorant about India, have stereotypical thoughts and thus may have the wrong idea about India.
India's Sukhoi is different from it has multiple countries'upgraded parts . Russia has warned india not to give radar signatures , still India goes for it
To be precise Su30MKI is Flanker-H. And MKI in Russian stands for "Modernizirovannyi, Kommercheskiy, Indiski", which translates to Modernized, Commercial, Indian. These aircrafts are completely built in India by HAL under license and is tailor made for Indian needs. i.e Indian , french and Israeli weapons, avionics and subsystems are used in this. Which makes this perticular Flanker-H unique and advanced in the world.
The SU-30MKI was the very first modern fighter aircraft that Russia developed and the knowledge from this collaboration was even used by the Russians to help develop subsequent SU-30 variants and the SU-35.

The Sukhoi 30 MKI is an absolute beast. This combination of Russian, Israeli and French technology makes it absolutely one of a kind. The only thing it's missing is a few pure EW platforms in it's swarm. With good AWACS, it can be an absolute gamechanger, but India needs much more of these.

Well the su30 sm or the superior MKI is way more advance ,superior and dominant then f16s,f15s and the f35s in a dogfight and wvr scenarios....and we took out a f16 with a mig21 bison.....so no problemo....we are here only to improve relationships and interoperability nothing to learn......atleast for us...

It's a Russian design off course but they were built in India to Indian specifications. It's kinda like the Mitsubishi F2, which is an F-16 (an American design) but built in Japan to Japanese specifications. 😊👍

No they did not get to know anything that the American's don't already know. Looking at a aircraft from outside is one thing, getting into the gut is another, and the Su 30 mki ( i stands for India) is customized by India for it's own requirements, it has Israeli & French avionics plus weapons developed in India itself. Besides, the military philosophy & tactics used by IAF are similar to the UK 's RAF, not Russia. And finally the Indian government is NOT dumb, IF there's anything secret or special about the mki, then it will NOT be exposed. The only reason why India is participating in this exercise, is to give the Japanese pilots, real time experience flying against the flanker. If by chance, the CCP stopped talking, and actually ( tried to) start shooting. ( at Taiwan).
