Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, is the birthplace of Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of "GeGeGe no Kitaro." Mizuki Shigeru Road is a tourist-friendly shopping street that was developed by the entire city to create a community road that Sakaiminato City is familiar with from the citizens. Not only are statues, picture tiles, and monuments of more than 170 youkai such as Kitaro and Nezumi Otoko appearing in "GeGeGe no Kitaro" installed on the sidewalk, but also shops, stations, police stations, outdoor lights, parks, Until ..., it looks like a youkai theme park. Born in 1993, it has become known nationwide as it gradually becomes featured in the media, attracting many tourists from all over the world as a tourist spot. In 2010, the number of visitors increased considerably after the autobiography of Mrs. Shigeru Mizuki's wife, Nunoe Mura, "Gegege no Nyobo," was broadcast on NHK's serial television novel.
In addition, a major renewal is taking place in July 2018, which marks the 25th anniversary! While maintaining the nostalgic Showa retro townscape, the sidewalks have expanded and rest areas have increased, making it easier to visit, and the youkai bronze statue has been rearranged in consideration of the place where youkai live. At night, the shadow puppets of the youkai will be newly projected on the entire road, and the youkai bronze statue will be lit up.
