(It’s hard to explain this whole thing so I’ll just tell you the context of it instead of doing a direct translation) It relates to a Chinese mythology, basically the nian beast(年獸) and xi beast(夕獸) are both the same thing, it’s just a different version of the mythology. For context, this monster will come out and eat people at the end of every year, and that people were afraid of it, until one day someone scared it away with some firecrackers, and put dui lian (對聯)on the walls around the door, which is basically just red papers with some words written on it. And this became the tradition of the new year eve. Translation: The cat was the nian/xi beast, and when he saw someone came in the cave, he lied having a brother called xi, he said that xi is a beast that brings disasters and that he escaped from the cave which sealed him inside, the cat then tell the main character to put him in the basket because he is afraid of the firecrackers, which are used to seal him there. After he escaped that place, he then reveals his identity as the xi beast and runs away.
@@username_69807 So its exactly what it looks like? that's really good storytelling on the part of the animation. That being said,it is nice having it spelled out, because the deception is not really the part worth having the audience spending their effort on. Its more enjoyable to focus on the feelings afterwards, of the shenanigans, and then the joy of everyone being thankful in the resolution.
