to give you a better perspective on their music sokoninaru (So-ko-ni-naru) translates to "instruments making noise"

Sokoninaru is one of the best Japanese rock bands at the moment. “Gou Ni Moyu”, “re:program”, “kyokugen wa setsuna”, “complicated system”, “Tenohira De Odoru”, “METALIN” are among their best songs. There are not your usual radio friendly rock band

The thing about Sokoninaru is that once you get used to how abstract and complex their music is, you begin to appreciate more how gorgeous it is. Lament Moment I'd say is about indicative of their usual style, but they definitely have a looot of range they cover, and 'full of songs you wouldn't expect them to do' is pretty accurate as to Choetsu. They have a lot of these pretty angular songs that play between super catchy and beautiful hooks and really punchy weird virtuoso musicianship. I usually compare them to, like, a more melodic Dillinger Escape Plan. Post-Mathcore. Tenohira de Odoru is the song most people first hear of theirs, and it's pretty fantastic, definitely recommend. Gou Ni Moyu is worth watching too, and the drum playthrough is amazing. My personal favorites are Complicated System and Re:Program, which are both just brilliant. They also have White For, a gorgeous ballad that they just put out a video for. Basically everything they do is amazing, and there's a lot of it. They have like 60 covers up on their channel, that cover a toooon of amazing J-Rock bands, and they're all fantastic. Their cover of Megitsune by Babymetal and CQCQ by Kami-sama, I Have Noticed are two of my favorites, along with their covers of vocaloid songs Matoryoshka by Hachi and Word's End Dancehall by Wowaka, all of which show just how incredible a vocalist Misaki Fujiwara is. Their covers also let them just have fun, since a lot of their original music is fairly serious and challenging. 88kasyo Junrei is a pretty apt comparison as far as weird but brilliant alternative J-Rock, but I think the main band they were heavily influenced by is Ling Tosite Sigure, who are super interesting and talented artists, but even more abrasive than this. I really like them, but they're definitely an acquired taste. The other band they remind me of is Hello Sleepwalkers, who aren't quite as abstract but have tons of great chaotic noise in their songs. For Ling Sogite Sigure, try Telecastic Fake Show (which Sokoninaru do an incredible cover of), and for Hello Sleepwalkers check out Shin Sekai or Shinwa Houaki (which Sokoninaru also do an incredible cover of).

Sokoninaru has a ton of different songs that could strike entire different audiences, this was one of their more chaotic songs but they also have songs like 'white for' and 'black to' which are a lot slower and don't seem like multiple songs mashed together. With a bigger focus on vocals. Then there is a song like 'Sayonara Blue' that is kind of their same style but a lot less chaotic and more for an "casual" audience that isn't into all the chaos. I definitely agree on everything you said, and great video!~

Finally sokoninaru. You're right, all of their song so inventive if you can say, almost every song didn't follow the standard song structure, almost math rock if i can say. Please check them more, i reccomend "Sokoninaru - Go ni mouyu"

Just a small correction The correct answer is "Sokoninaru - Gou Ni Moyu"

I agree there's only a certain audience, but there really ought to be more. Unfortunately i'm not good at musical theory but i do enjoy when proper musicians do what *they* think is awesome, not what they expect people to actually like. Oddly enough i have that album on my mobile, and it does grow on you, it's incredible how they have just the minimal required amount of melodic structure to keep you drawn in, while doing all those really weird and unexpected bits. This is the one band that had me watch their entire commented videos, even though i don't (yet?) speak a word of japanese. And that's the beauty of it, you don't have to. That spark of genuine love and joy (and you will know what i mean if you search youtube for "sokoninaru comment" content), you feel it, no words needed. Come to think of it Yoko Kanno did something very similar with the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, some of those tracks are super jazzy and experimental to the point where most people would never ever listen to them, but somehow it's just mainstream enough to get you hooked anyway. Anyway it's late and i'll just shut up now :P

I LOVE Sokoninaru! Yes, it’s complex, but I love that you don’t grasp the entirety of the song the first time you listen to it. It’s interesting and keeps you exploring their music instead of getting bored. Like they somehow manage to leave me mind blown and overwhelmed but happy about not grasping everything. Please check out the song Gou Ni Moyu 🖤

Glad to see my favorite band getting recognition. They're one of the most original bands I've heard in quite some time. They sound random on purpose, and that's why it takes a few listens to be able to follow and anticipate the changes. Still, once you can, they're even more enjoyable. So, if you're looking for radio-friendly, check out the "white for" mv; and, if you're looking for more experimental, check out "re:program".

Thank you... Glad to see you get to this. Found your comments very interesting. I really relate to Sokoninaru as I come from hard core prog roots. And maybe it's music that works with my short attention span. I just get bored with most highly predictable song. structures. To me this a "boundary test song". Where are your music horizons.? Have to try new things, to discover new things.

This band has better songs like Gou No Moyu and Tenohira De Odoru (that are much more coherent as well)

I'm not sure I liked all of those pauses. They gave me a feel like they were still playing, but it was just muted for that second or so. Other than that I liked everything else well enough.

Incoherent pieces of parts, if that makes sense. I'm clever enough to look and listen to (for me) new stuff, but not that clever to immediatly understand what just happened. I can say I like it for one song except the poppy voices. Have a nice weekend and cheers 🍺 It's Friday after all...

Sometimes when I hear these weird, quirky songs I think, OK but what if I were to sit down and play the song at its most basic with an acoustic guitar. Would it still seem interesting? Is the core of the song good? I'm not sure that I would be that into it.
@Shiroar
@Shiroar 3 года назад
I don’t think it really makes sense to do that with a song like this. The complexity and the soundscape created by all the instruments (including vocals) is at the core of the song.
@CharlesEMurphy
@CharlesEMurphy 3 года назад
@@Shiroar I guess that's really my point. Soundscapes, sound collages ( like the Beatles Revolution #9) are certainly valid approaches, but they venture away from what holds my interest as a "song" personally. And of course, this is wholly subjective. Staying just inside the melodies involved, they didn't really catch me.

A song made in the digital edit. Very niche. Impressively done. Clever. Not for me though. Incoherent, messy, probably needs many listens to fully grasp but there's not enough good stuff in there to keep me coming back.
