Wake up young people, you can't work for a minimum pay job forever. Take some practical training like renovation, plumbing or maintenance and get a license. After that, you will get a decent pay job and won't worry about losing job or can't pay your rent, food etc. This is the old man's advice.
I strongly agree with you... what you are talking is not just for living in Canada but also all over the world everywhere....working as blue colar with authorised license is much better than working in cafe... even in HK, the situation is the same, no difference... the key value is getting professional or authorised license, those professional occupation must secure your basic salary level!!!
Canada is an English speaking country so of course all examinations are in English. Even all written examinations in Hong Kong are in English so I wonder what is your English level in Hong Kong. You guys are still young and why not to take some ESL classes to upgrade your English? It is free and you can make some friends there. Remember you can work hard and learn fast when you are young (less than 40 years old). Once you pass that age everything will be harder. @@Apple-oz8wm
Try to seek opportunities to learn spoken English and get blend into the Canadian way of life. Perhaps branch into learning some license technical skills for instance, qualified electrician or plumber.
Don’t know Canada too well … Toronto must be getting very expensive considered rent itself is $2000 .. I do have a good friend staying in Toronto for many years now … and it must have a lot more job opportunities than Vancouver … and I thought weather is much better in Vancouver .. but for a young couple like you guys .. you’re in the right city considered you have a lot more career growth ahead of you … Keep up the good work … future is bright for you .. Canada is really a great free country and you’ll enjoy it
You dont want to work in a coffee shop for the remaining of your life. Go back to school (Seneca, Centennial, etc ) for professional qualifications (eg pharmacy technicians, clinical assistant, paramedics, library and information technicians, computer system technicians,,,,,,,,, ) if and when you are eligible for local student tuition.
技持呀!加油。one of the comments here are about learning trades. Yes. I agree. We are in Calgary, SAIT has very employable classes. You can find some schools like that. It will get better.
Good job to the both of you for being resilient and thinking positively, as well as supporting each other...a tip, is to save at least 6 months of your monthly expenses as a back up funds, to cover you in case there is a loss of income.
I also shifted gear many years ago to move from Japan to Toronto. But even I was looking for some IT related jobs, I found it very difficult to get a job in Toronto. Eventually I went back to Vancouver. But keep it up. I totally agree that moving to a new place is not easy at all!
