남궁민이란 이름 석자를 작품을 많이 보지 않았는데도 데뷔초반부터 알고 있던 배우라는게 잘생기던 인상깊던 뭔가가 있었나보다. 이 토크 느낌이 참 새롭다. 우결 찍기 1년반이고. 나이로는 35살인건데 동안외모는 말할것도 없고 이 순수한 느낌때문에 20대라고 해도 믿겠다. 말은 느리고 노련하게 하진 않아도 뭔가 내재된 가능성과 잠재력이 이 토크만으로도 뭔가 느껴지네. 사주에 도화살이 있다던데 그냥 끌어당기는 매력이 있는 사주라고. 만약 연기전공하거나 끌어주는 선후배 인맥만 제대로 있었어도 금방 스타배우가 됐을 사람이다. 그럼에도 이름석자 바로 알린걸 보면 잘생김과 목소리, 눈빛, 내재된 매력이 있던 거지.
지금은 저때보단 좀 더 밝아지고 편해지고 여유가 생긴 느낌이긴 한데 저때나 지금이나 진솔하고 연기에 대한 순수한 열정은 똑같네 차근히 자신의 진가를 보여주면서 지금의 자리까지 올라왔지만 아직도 엄청난 노력을 하며 자신의 연기 스펙트럼을 넓혀가는 천재배우 게다가 얼굴 몸 목소리까지 존잘
그전엔 남궁민 솔직히 잘몰랐는데... 누구닮은 이정도로만...그냥 수많은 새로운 신인중 한명으로... 근데 청담동앨리스에 문근영 남친으로 정말잠깐 나왔는데 그 대사를 치는 장면이 인상적이었음....묻어나는현실감이랄까.. 진짜같다는 생각...그때 단역?이랄까 작은역할을 기꺼이 맡은것도 훌륭해보임..그후로 좋아하는 믿고보는배우가됨

everyone know that he is very great actor but very underrated. finally he got name and fame after long time journey .he deserved every success. I know I'm too late but I didn't know him before 1 month ago. when I saw him first time in can you hear my heart I became his big fan. I love his honest personality and his charming smile.

I’m so impressed with this interview👍🏻❣️Whenever I come across downtime, I use to watch it to see how Mr Nam Goong successfully transformed from an ordinary him to a successful actor👍🏻, especially my personality is quite like him: always hardworking, do our best and rarely let parents worry about us, which may imply no wow or fun factor to others... I’m so impressed by his devotion in reviewing every aspect of himself to be a better and better him: his acting performance, his social skills, impact of his behaviour to others, learn from others’ issues, etc. I just hope he doesn’t give himself lots of pressure and won’t take TV programme ratings too seriously. Trust his instinct, just work the best of it then simply enjoy the process and friendship! Part 3: The last 15 minutes: MC: looking back 10 years of your acting career, what you think acting is? NGM: When gathering and drinking with friends at younger age, I thought acting is easy, we gossiped who acted well, who was not. But now, I am older, I do not think there is a standard. It is hard to determine what is good or not. MC: Who did you like at younger age? NGM: for Korean actor, I like, Han Suk-kyu , Song Kang-Ho MC: How do you like them NGM: They act so well MC: But don’t you say there is no standard NGM: This is my standard. There are some acting that I thought is plain, superficial and not special, but the audiences love it. I think everyone has his own standard, so to me now, there is no absolute standard in term of good acting MC: For actress, who is good in your standard? NGM: Gong Hyo Jin, she can act so nature like really living and touch your motion. After they talked about acting in crying/sobbing scene and how to act naturally but also visually pretty on the screen to the audiences’ view. MC: What kind of movie star do you want to be? NGM: I do not have one play that represent me so far when my name is mentioned. I did not think much before, but now I like to have a role or a play that is my representative piece. MC: What kind of role do you want to play? NGM: I am not picky in term of choosing a role, I like to feel the role and make sense to me when I read a script. If it is uncomfortable, I may not be able to play it naturally. MC: Any Korean or international movies that you have seen and like to be in it? NGM: I like Al Pacino - Scent of a Woman, I am hoping to play a role like him with so much inner emotions to touch the viewers. When I am down or depressed; I like to re-watch this film and reflect my goal to be a good actor. I would sob when watching it. Not only the scenes but I feel that is a good acting of Al Pacino. It is a true meaning of good actor. MC: So far, you have not had a chance to truly and fully demonstrate your acting? NGM: I had played so many different roles, I think I am the total combination of them all because they are all the experience that I have experienced. MC: That is how you put it. So You like to combine all the experience and hope to play a role like in the Scent of woman movie to fully express yourself. NGM: I hope so MC: I wish that day will come soon. Fin.
I posted this on Soompi thread. Since I am a big fan of NGM. I’ll generally sum this and hope to increase his fan base. This interview was after “can you hear my heart” and before “city conquest” filming. (P.S. city conquest with Kim Hyun-Joong and this series was cancelled later) Part 1-the first 20 minutes video. MC asked him how he started with acting career. His father is an educator, his mother is a house wife, so he was very well behaved when grew up with high moral standard . He often was at the top of his class in both academy and sport. MC said so you are a mama boy, he said not quite. But he had never touched cigarette, liquor or had a girl friend up to his senior year. But within a month after he graduated from high school, he had all the 3. Before his military duty draft, there was one event on TV and at the bottom of the screen was MBC actor draft exam. He asked his ma can he go, his mama say OK since he is going to be drafted to military. During that audition, he was asked to read a script and to perform a free act. he chose to do a free play that was a crying scene played by Han Suk-kyu crying in a police station in “Christmas in August”. NGM thought that cry and angry scenes are good acting but at the end he did not even cry or talk, he could sense the embarrassment from the judges. He did not pass that audition but because of that experience, he found out what he like to do the very first time in his life. After that, he started to send his picture to different agencies (he had no agent or any acting class at that time). He won a music star contest (to his surprise because he always thought only people with background can win this). He did this music star for 2 months and then quit because he likes acting better. After that he landed a CF with the late actress Choi Jin-Sil. This commercial was shot in Canada. Because of this commercial, Choi Jin-Sil. introduced him to his agent, and he got an acting role in Dae Bak Family. He stated that his first 5 years of acting was very difficult and the director could be very harsh on him (not like directors of the current days who are very kind to new actors).

Part 2: The next 18 mins: NGM popularity starts to rise at his 2004 daily drama-“My lovely family”, he gains lots of housewife fans. Even he is the lead role in this, he felt that this did not impress people much in this role. After that, he took a small role in “ My rosy life” as Dr. Ji, totally opposite from his usually gentle/soft characters in the past, this Dr. Ji is a comic/cute role. MC said his evil role in the movie “dirty carnival” made deep impression on people right? He expressed how did he try to find the way to play that role. Although he has been taken on most the 2nd lead or supporting role, he has been felt incompetent but continue to have a strong desire and challenge to be a good actor. After military duty, there was a 2 year gap, he had excruciating back pain due to disc hernia and visited many doctors but continuing to have pain every second. 2010, he took a villain role in “Becoming a Billionaire”, in that there was a swimming scene, his childhood swimming trainer was mentioned, because this, his back pain was lessened and later cured after exercise. After that, he talked about his role in “can you hear my heart” and how he played that role between gentle/hatred and struggled emotions. He talked about the stress, process and the scene when he had a burst emotions to his grandmother. MC asked her did you feel hurt that you played as well but another 2 leads both received an award but you? He said, that is why he starts to change, in the past, all he wanted is to act well, did not care and was not good at all in social interaction or networking. , but now 34 going to 35 years old, he felt a need to do so. He had a straight, well manner and earnest personality but sometimes it made people around him uncomfortable and misunderstood that he is arrogant. He starts to attend drinking, singing social events and to have a friendlier side. MC asked him how he feels after gaining the publicity. He felt that he is not that popular but has been known, he is OK to be recognized but feel that he has sacrificed some privacy. But since acting is his love, he can deal with this. MC asked him do you wear hat/mask/sunglasses when out alone, he said he just has a hat and casual clothing. If he was recognizes, he is OK even it is a bit stressful sometimes.
