Im a nihon goshen aikido student my self and i train directly under sensei robert macewan jr and i know the man who brought it to america not only have i met him but i worked out with him in no way shape or fake its an amazing an d peaceful art
This is a very beautiful and esoteric art that at times appears to defy the laws of physics. Tori and Uke relationship is what makes this are moving poetry.
One of the great Martial systems ever devised assuming one has mastered it. Which if anyone knows anything about Aikido they understand that its probably one of the most difficult Martial Arts to master if not the most! Its a life long endeavor!
I always saw Aikido as one of those arts with a giant learning curve. Something like... 2nd dan is where you finally are able use it, assuming you have practiced properly. It takes masterful finesse to win leaving your opponent and yourself unharmed. It's fundamental philosophy is why it doesn't make a "fighting" art. Kudos luckyshoes
The biggest aspect of Aikido is movement of your legs, you don't use them to trip or anything..Just the movement moves you OUT of the danger, and balance your whole body so a technique would work like a game,if you don't have propper leg positions most games won't work (Game is a throw in japanese)
true. A lot of martial arts only work after a long time of pactice. But practicing a martial art -no matter for how long- cant be called bad. Someone with 2 years experience of aikido or even 1 year, has at least more advantage in a fight than he did before aikido. If something, doing martial arts change your idea's about a fight, and can build up your courage. all of this can be usseful.
It is possible to lock a joint quickly and in real life it could possibly work but some of the techniques are not just designed to lock a joint but to totally destroy and immobilize the joint. One of the reasons why its not used in a publicized world championship fight is that no one wants to get permanently disabled. But who knows how many fights masters like these have gotten into that aren't public bouts.
the reason why so many police forces have adopted it. Is that its "soft" form, it doesnt effectively knock out an opponnent, so u are ready for the next, it's a momentarely knockout, if you may. thats why many policeforces also have adopted WT, in their training program as well..
ok now im a an aikido practioner and im was feeling bad becuz im not very good at some points but whne i see this guys this masters i understand that i just have to train harder becuz whit this art nothing is imposible no mater what the ppl says it is at leess for me the most powerfull martial art in the world
Oh definitely! I have had someone pull off a rather dramatic Aikido move on me. I tried to pull off a backfist reverse punch combo and they were able to grab my lazy backfist and lock it as I torqued in for the reverse punch. ow. They were nice enough to not let me break my own wrist though hehe.
I love aikido... it's fun pratising when you do it a while.. Good for body and mind.. And yes naturally you don't attack with AiKiDo. Thats no problem cause I don't want to attack someone.. Aikido makes you too relxxed for useless atacks..
Fantastic commitment and dedication. Deflect the aggressor - who is unbalanced why because anger/aggression does this to you.(there are better ways to lose anger) Control - balance/non aggression = winners. No competition just demos why? why attack. Plus real life scenario = broken arm, wrist, neck and death in less than one second - just as well!
@artemisf125 He grounded himself, engaging himself to the earth. When you do it properly you become rooted like a tree. So the person, in effect, ran himself into the tree and took his own force. Fun stuff :D
really well said libor2, it's your own choice if you want to do aikido if it speaks to you then you go for it if your not in to the neer attack always defend don't do it make your own path
I think aikido is veeery effective yea :) but I'm also of the idea that it needs to keep evolving a lot, some great styles and branches have come out of it (others not so great) but since it is a relatively new art, I dont think it would be a crime to innovate it or change it a bit ^^
Well I practice Takemusu Aikido and believe me it's very effective and it's techniq is unique becouse an aikidoka uses his minimum strengh to protect himself and not to hurt his opponents.
@aa3gunner There is a reason they are being "submissive". Ukemi is the way you receive techniques. This is so you avoid injury. By learning to move with the technique, you can learn to counter it. Every move the Uke (The person being thrown) makes is based in a counter to the technique. Though most of the time, it is very hard to see, and indeed many Aikido dojos do not teach the counters.
Mate i loved this video and the practice of Aikido. Can you tell me the song video name please? I loved to. I know you said it is in the Beat Mania ⅡDX "A", but, what song it is? Thank you.
I practice several martial arts, and believe me, Aikido is probably one of the most dangerous and fearsome :) Throw anything you want, it'll be dodged. try grappling, and you get thrown or submitted. And if you don't know how to fall or how to 'jump' then you end up with a broken wrist, elbow and shoulder, simple as that ^^ The reason people "jump" in Aikido, is only to preserve themselves... not for show ^^ Try fighting an Aikido Master and you'll understand the point ^^
thanks mate i got it and the remix to. Its incredible how a song can give you enough emotion to workout as you want. By the way, if you do Meditation i suggest you used a song called "Evocation" Jacotte Chollete. Its wonderfull to use after Aikido Trainning.
Aikido is not about breaking bones :) It's not about doing anything >against< resistance or meeting force by force. I didn't believed it's real as well before I started to practice and realize It's just an application of basic mechanics. You're not striking, pushing or pulling anyone, just leading him, so you don't need to be >tought
@aa3gunner haha...Aikido is a very deadly martial art. its ok if you dont like it. but please. respect these martial arts. every martial art have its own style.
İf u look at military and police close combat books, most of the moves are the same as aikido moves. I also saw many aikido moves used effectually in cage fights . I think aikido is like pro wrestling. While the first one is scientific the second is for entertainment. They re not real fight. But u will learn alot if u whatch them carefully.
only someone who has never been to an Aikido Dojo would say that. Since I've practiced for some years now I can tell you... Everyone of those attacks or "uke" was really trying hard to make a successful attack. This is the nature of Aikido, we train with intent, it looks scripted because it is in some form, but there is also a very real possibility that if you screw up your technique as nage "thrower" the uke will hurt you.
While it's certainly true that it's harder to pull off than you see in a demonstration, there's a reason many police officers still use Aikido and traditional Japanese jujitsu... and in fact it overlaps with many BJJ techniques. They DO share actual combat applications, after all. It's just that most of what you see on TV is sport oriented. Nobody who's been trained how to fights like that for real though, because there are NO rules on the street. Your eye gouge, bite and ball grap are fair game
in all the jiu jitsu videos they talk about 95% of fights going to the ground. What happens before this. someone tries to grab you right? Thats when aikido really kick in. Movement that most standup or grapplers would not be used to and locks and throws and chokes and clothslines. aikido gets direct when its wants too.
I'm not Jiu Jitsu master, but I have studied some MMA, and I can tell you, I don't TELEGRAPH my take-downs like all the Aikido vidoes show. Also, I don't try to grab a small target like a wrist. I usually go for a double-leg takedown after a grapple or a quick and LOW shoot. I don't run UPRIGHT and try and grab a wrist. I agree that Aikido has its uses (good for women), but it won't work in real combat!
i have done this, its real. looks unreal couse theyre jumping, but they do that because they are students or masters of aikido and know what could happen to them if they do not jump or follow the movement.
Uh now that you mention it, I think it is one of the most famous martial arts all over the world. "Yeah and I suppose you can throw me around like a feather with your pinky too?" You are fooling yourself if you think you are going to understand it by watching videos. Look up and read about "Aiki" that's a good place to start. I believe Aikido isn't the only art in which it is used.
uke/attacker chooses if he will be thrown not the aikdoist. Technique will not work in aikido and forcing someone to flip or fall because of leverage or wrist locks is not the true idea of aikido. aikdio is training in ki (intention) sensitvity. The uke (attacker) will fall and flip depending on what his intention is, how strong it is, and how the aikidoist can feel the needs of the attacker and meet them quickly. uke creates aiki manifestation not the technique.
-AlexWasBored most of the time aikido is practiced (at least in my experience)more from a static stance. it is not until you really start to learn it that you start doing things faster and whatnot that is why these are 'Masters'. And most Aikido technique is based on movements with a weapons. so a lot of work with weapons is done. we do alot with people attacking you with weapons, and you taking them away. it is a key concern(removing the danger of the weapon) does this explain at all?
If you mean if someone attaack you and you make the techinque, he won't flip ;) He will fall down on his face can even break something. Flips are part of training, wich makes it more safe. Greetings!
@MrPinoy91 so true, the head of hawai'i international is really nice....we invite him here to do demos....though he made fun of me so does sefu(sp?) starr........this makes me feel sane again
Lol I was searching the entire youtube section to find Banji Kwan, thinking to myself: WHAT? is there a art I don't know?? then I realized you must have meant Baji-quan. :)
Come on... 'Course he don't need to touch him, that's what aikido is about, you don't need to touch, he "flies" because he's own force. You shouldn't talk about something you don't even know.
Martial Arts are more intwined than you think. Okinawan karate-jutsu came from Chinese boxing styles, and so did Japanese karate styles come from Okinawan styles. New styles, such as the Korean Tae Kwon Do, is also derived from Okinawan karate-jutsu. You see? Everything is intwined. Give me an art, and I'll tell you what is has to do with another one.
@thhyu23 Aikido is a defensive art. Most street fighters will be off balance because they dont know what they are doing. It will still work against someone who is a skilled fighter too. You may have to counter (hit) them to get them off balance and/or use good foot movement. You cant fight another persons fight. If your not a boxer dont try to box with a boxer, etc. You have to take your opponent out of their element.
@aa3gunner slowly u build muscles and rear the hard "yang" force inside u. Ever wondered why sometimes, let's say you have huge muscles, but lack of energy, the "force"?
I'm going to guess you are talking about Steven Segal? Unfortunately it is Aikido and he is a high ranking instructor with his own style and schools in the USA. Yes, he has given Aikido a bad name with his hollywood antics... but it is Aikido.
lol easy dude remeber evreybody has a reaction during a fight this tehcniches are just a demo if u will but u dont understand that the esence of the aikido is the absortion of energy and redirection of it so dont be like that i mean even if u have both of your hands its useless if youre already on the floor but i respect your opinion and i vnvite you to go to a dojo near yo just for a class and see for yourself the power of this art peace
@lordtains I crooss train Jujitsu kickboxing and Aikido and I im here to tell all kotegashi will break your wrist if I gab you when you try to punch trust aikido is far from fake.I grew up fighting in the streets and it does work. However I still love my kickboxing and jujitsu. After a basketball player retires he can later play golf thats the same with moving from a hard style martial arts to Aikido.
as much as i respect Aikido, the demos almost always are with an opponent who is charging in and off balance. how does this work with somebody who is balanced in his attack?
Katatetori Kotegashi. Wrist lock, an oppotent is grapping your forearm. Or Katatetori Ikkyo. Or Katatetori Shihonage, Iriminage, whatever. At first you learn proper movement, which is quite difficult to master. Later on, you start to learn how to use it in combat.
if you threw stool at someone who does Aikido, it wouldn't get within 2 feet of them before they moved. Pick up a chair, and he might take you seriously enough to kill you in 1-2 seconds. I've been thrown by a 4th Dan over 12 feet, without "jumping" to help... just by him touching my hand. He didn't even realize he did it that hard (ie. it wasn't close to as hard as it could have been).
1:36-wtf? did he just push the guy with his shoulders? wish i could do that im starting learning aikido but i know it will take me many years to get to anywhere near that standard
