大糸線前面展望　パート1松本→穂高　＜cabview Japanrail Ooito Line（ｐart1 Matsumoto → Hotaka＞

This is a cab view of the Ōito Line that connects Matsumoto Station in Nagano Prefecture and Itoigawa Station in Niigata Prefecture.
The Ōito Line is a long line with a length of 105.4 km, and 70.1 km between Matsumoto Station and Minami Otari Station on the south side is electrified. This video is part 1 of the cab view of the Ōito Line, covering 16.2km from Matsumoto Station to Hotaka Station. We shot the entire 34.0km distance from Matsumoto Station to Minami-Omachi Station, but it took about 50 minutes, which was a bit too long, so we split it up to Hotaka Station along the way. It takes about 26 minutes.
(The map at the beginning was made all at once from Matsumoto to just before Shinano Omachi. At first, I was thinking of uploading 50 minutes at once. Thank you for your understanding. (^^;)
From Matsumoto Station to its final stop, Itoigawa Station (a town facing the Sea of Japan), this line continues through the deep rift valley that borders Japan's east and west. Therefore, we can see tall mountains on either side of the train window. In this video, the mountain range that appears in the foreground on the left is affectionately known by Japanese people as the "Northern Alps." There are mountains with an altitude of 2,800 meters.
Part 2 will be uploaded later (although the atmosphere along the railway line will not change much). I will upload parts north of Shinano-Omachi Station as parts 3, 4, and 5, but it may take a little longer.
There were equipment and other items placed on the console in the driver's cab, so I shot this with a slightly higher zoom ratio. Please understand this as well.
This season, when snow remains on the mountains, is the most beautiful season on the Ōito Line. It's a shame that the windows are a little dirty, but please enjoy the spring scenery of Japan's local trains.
The frog that appears at the beginning is the symbol of Nawate Street, Matsumoto City's representative shopping street. Why a frog? In the past, when there were still lots of frogs croaking, this town was bustling, so frog statues were placed here and there to help bring the town back to life.

大糸線松本→穂高の前面展望です。最初は北大町駅までの区間を一括でアップするつもりでおりましたが、所要50分はやはり長過ぎる印象があったので、途中の穂高駅で割愛することにしました。
穂高以北はパート２として追ってアップします。そのため冒頭の地図は、北大町駅までを該当区間となったままですが、ご了承下さい。もっとも日本在住の鉄道ファンであれば、大糸線の位置などは、改めての説明は不要かとも思います。やや前面窓が汚れているのが残念ですが、春の風景を楽しんで下さい。運転台のコンソール上に、器材などが置かれていましたので、ややズーム比率を高めて撮影しました。これもご了承下さい。

Very beautiful and lovely train ride on this line. The greenery on both sides of the track makes this ride more pleasant. The view of the snow capped mountains in the short horizon makes this ride even more enjoyable and very pleasant. I look forward to the continuation of this ride beyond the last stop here. Thank you for your comment. If we use slide film from a while back, we can take photos with high contrast and saturation. If I had taken the photo earlier in the season and at an earlier time, I might have been able to see the mountains more clearly. This is my challenge for next year.

A beautiful afternoon ride on a not too busy line passing by farms and zipping through urban areas. It's kind of enjoyable to pause the speeding train to stop at all the local stations to pick up or drop off s few passengers. ❤😮😂🎉

This line was originally constructed as a private railway, and it has a different feel from the main line, with its steep curves, occasional steep gradients, and short stations.

Si miras un mapa, Chile también parece un país montañoso. Muchas de las montañas de Japón están cubiertas de árboles y tienen formas vagas, pero la cadena montañosa en el lado izquierdo de este video tiene una forma nítida. Un sendero rocoso y sin árboles conduce a lo largo de la cresta cerca de la cima. Gracias por tu comentario.

Seems to be an interesting ride, I'm looking forward to the next parts... 🤗 The picture quality is also really good, I watched the first part on a TV monitor and the scenery seemed very vivid and clear, the snow-covered mountain peaks were also very beautiful 👍 So there is also this rural Japan with lots of greenery, nature and rice fields... and not just dense buildings with houses right next to the route like the Enoden line or like in many Japanese cities! What I noticed is: 1) Relatively many stops within a short period of time 2) a route with many short dips and inclines... I don't know that in Germany, for example: if necessary, the railway embankment is raised so high that the tracks are as flat as possible - even if there are inclines or declines These occur visually rather imperceptibly and very slowly... Thank you for your comment. Your observations are very detailed! 😀The Japanese comment above also points out the short distance between the stations. This line originally opened as a private railway, and has a history of being built as a means of transportation for local residents in their daily lives. This is probably the reason why there are so many slopes on railway lines. At the time of construction, the company's management foundation was weak. However, this is a common story on old railroads. There are no densely populated houses along this route. It's a pleasant route to ride.

I always hear people telling that nobody talks on the train in Japan. That might be true for Tokyo subway, but your videos show that Japanese trains can be very lively.😊 By the way, is the driver a trainee? There seems to be somebody telling a lot and I also spotted a second pair of white gloves 😊

You're right. The train driver was in the middle of his training, and a senior train driver was standing next to him, giving him detailed advice such as, ``There's a railroad crossing at the end of this curve.'' I think the skills and knowledge of professional drivers are amazing. Even in Japan, morning commuter trains are quiet, but afternoon trains are relaxing. It gets lively when two young girls stand behind the driver's cab. This is probably a common trend worldwide.

People don't talk to each other on the London Underground either. You can always tell who are tourists as they chatter to themselves. Typical of big cities world-wide I think. This trip, there is plenty to see and talk about though!
