So they can hear themselves. Sometimes between the acoustics and other noise its hard to focus on a note. Ear pieces block out those noises but sometimes singers with high voices only wear one or take them off because the highness of the note hurts their ears.
also, generally speaking we (people) hear our own voice differently from how others hear us, it's to do with how the sound travels along the bone structure rather than through air. the earpiece allows singers to ehar what their audience is hearing from them rather than what they normally hear. - this is also why some people absolutely despise hearing their own voice recorded, it doesn't sound anything like the voice they're used to.
She was singing in Italian. This song was adopted from Donizetti's opera Lucia di Lammermoor, Eccola (the mad scene). Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Montserrat Caballe and many famous sopranos had sung it in the original aria.
Agreed! An example: At 4:09-4:10 is probably one of the hardest passages in the song. The notes in the original, if I got it right, are: Ab -> Ab(low) -> Db -> Ab(low) -> B -> Ab(low) Jane sings: Ab -> Ab(low) -> Ab -> /paus/ -> Db -> Ab Hard to tell if it's a mistake or if she meant to sing it that way. Maybe she meant to sing like the original but hit the Ab instead of the high Db (which btw is incredibly hard to hit, the interval stretches 1oct + a 4th), took a breathe and squeezed in those last Db and Ab instead - but if so that is some split-second decision making for sure! Either that or it was rehearsed this way, to make sure it was possible to sing at all in other words :) Either case, the notes she sings are straight on so we can hardly gives any thumbs down at all. It's a... strange piece of music, but an incredible performance right here! I took a moment to look at other covers on youtube and this one is by far one of the best. I would argue THE best. While many others kind of gets the high notes right they miss out on the lower ones or some specific notes (such as the end note at 3:48, no idea why though). All the notes that Jane sets out to sing - she hits them. And the fast run at 4:17-4:19, sure she slows down the tempo a bit but still... She hits every single note. That's some impressive stuff :)
The impossible because when this song was created they used computers to generate notes that would be impossible for humans to sing and make it more alienish-godish sound.
Just to be that one annoying guy, I think it's wrong to say that it's impossible for a human to sing all these notes. In fact, in this video Jane shows that she can hit all the notes - she hits the highest ones cleanly as well as the lowest ones. So she is absolutely capable of hitting the notes per definition. The issue here is the speed and the large intervals - which is the reason the computer remix-thing was introduced in the first place :)
I think this is probably the best natural rendition of the piece, but regardless, it is still impossible to sing the piece exactly the same as the movie.. But there is nothing wrong with that since in the movie, an Alien with 2 sets of Vocal Chords was singing and it was computerized at that one famous part to make it sound more Alien.. This was the whole intent of the composer to make it impossible for a Human to sing lol.. Great job though. It is still amazingly done, regardless whether you are an Alien or a Human lol
I just want to write something. I have heard this song MULTIPLE times. After watching this video I was stunned. I have sensitive ears. After watching this, I went and looking for other people that also sang this song. Few things I've noticed. No one else puts their full weight into the note. What I mean is you ever notice someone sing a song they clearly can't hit all the notes so they compensate somehow? This girl puts her full vocal into that note. She hits it higher and stronger than anyone else I have seen and I've searched for 30mins looking at video after video. Even the Danish whomever singer that people suggest in the comments. She might not be an opera singer but I am legitimately amazed by the talent. Thank you Jane Zhang thank you so very much for sharing your talent with the world.
Amateurs worship whoever can sing higher because they equate whoever can hit the highest notes as the best. Contrary to Vitas and Jane, Dimash is all about flamboyance and there is zero emotion in his performance. If I want to listen to a male singer who can reach the highest octave Adam Lopez who hold the world record would be the one.
4:04 when those two musicians behind her look at each other, like "What the fuck, did you hear that?" after the first time she breaks the law of physics, with her voice. 😂
Il dolce suono mi colpì di sua voce! Ah, quella voce M'è qui nel cor discesa! Edgardo! Io ti son resa. Edgardo! Ah! Edgardo, mio! Si, ti son resa fuggita io son da' tuoi nemici. Ah nemici! Un gelo mi serpeggia nel sen! Trema ogni fibra! Vacilla il piè! Presso la fonte meco t'assidi alquanto. Si, presso la fonte meco t'assidi.
No disrespect to the whole song but 3:10 till the end is just pure awesome, wish it was longer. I can try to repeat some parts but can't promise how it will turn out. If I come up with anything good I'll upload it.
4:16 is real! I didn't think it were humanly possible after having watched the film some 20 years ago. There are two other live versions by other people on youtube but I think one of those (Evgenia Laguna) replaced this part with synthesized voice and the other (disneydiva7) was incomplete and had the original track playing in the background so it was difficult to judge how good the real voice was. This version is the most complete and 100% live and real! A rare case where the cover is better than the original.
+William Zhang.. Its still not the same notes in the same speed as the movie, as they are impossible to achieve by a human, but it is a nice alteration to the movie.. It is not a knock on her to say she cannot do something physically impossible lol.. and that was the intention of the Composer to make it sound inhuman and alien-like..
Jane is the consummate performer - outstanding vocals, lovely personality and a true professional.Opera and the like is not really my thing, but I appreciate true talent when I see and hear it. Would nearly have to be the most versatile performer in the world today - having the ability to perform all musical genre will equal and amazing skill.
She is amazing! I thought that no one could do that performance because after all, they did make it to where humans shouldn't be able to mimic it. But Jane Zhang did a flawless job and it gave me goosebumps. #beautiful ❤️🌹🌹🌹
