今天要和各位講定靜慮
Today I'm going to talk about dhyana.
這什麼意思呢
What does it mean?
就是我們參禪入定
We go into dhyana
主要的就是讓我們的心裡
mainly to make our mind
能安靜下來沒有罣礙
settle down and free of hindrances,
沒有恐怖、沒有顛倒妄想
fear, topsy-turvydom
and deluded thinking.
所謂心無罣礙
To let our mind be free of hindrances,
要到達這種心裡面
and attain
安靜的有這個定力
the peaceful dhyana,
你平常就要慢慢的要統一身心
you need to gradually unify
your body and mind,
集中意志
keep your mind focused,
要所謂要變化氣質
and change your temperament
做一些修養
by means of certain practice.
我舉一個禪門的故事說
Let me cite a Chan story.
一個年輕的人做了住持
A young man became the abbot.
有一個信徒就來拜訪
Later a devotee came for a visit.
一看到這個年輕的住持
When he saw the young abbot
坐在那個寶座椅上
sitting on the main seat,
在旁邊還站了一個年老的和尚
and on his side stood an old monk,
不過他也不知道是什麼關係
he wondered what their relationship was.
跟這個年輕的住持講話之後
He had a nice chat with the abbot.
年輕的住持就跟老和尚說
The young abbot said to the old monk:
去 倒杯茶給客人
Pour a cup of tea to the guest.
老和尚 是
The old monk replied: Yes.
就去倒茶
Then he poured him some tea.
不過這個信徒就不大高興了
This made the devotee unhappy,
who thought:
喔 這個年輕的住持這麼傲慢
Oh! How arrogant this young abbot is!
怎麼對老和尚那麼樣子口氣
How could he speak to the old monk
in that manner,
好像命令一樣的
as if he is giving order.
都沒一點尊重
He has no respect at all!
不過自己是客人不好意思說
But the devotee find it embarrassing
to say anything.
老和尚的茶也倒來了
At the same time the old monk
came and served him tea.
年輕的住持又再說
The young abbot said:
喂 去 切一盤水果來請客人
Hey! Prepare a tray of fruits
for the guest.
老和尚說 是
The old monk said: Yes Sir.
就去切水果
And he did as instructed.
這個客人更加的不高興
The guest became even more unhappy,
你看 一下命那老和尚去倒茶
as he saw the old monk
was asked to pour tea
你一下命那老和尚切水果
and cut fruits.
不過還是就忍耐 客人嘛
But he remained patient
since he knew he was just a guest.
這個年輕的住持講了幾句話之後
He went on talking with the young abbot,
who again ordered the old monk:
喂 等一會兒你帶客人
Hey! In a while take the guest
到哪裡吃飯
to dinner.
我現在有事要去做別的事了
I've other occupations now.
就先走了
Have to go.
這個信徒有這麼一個空檔機會
After the abbot left,
the devotee seized the opportunity
就問這個老和尚
to ask the old monk:
老和尚
Old monk,
剛才那個住持是你的什麼人
What's your relationship
with the abbot?
喔 他呀 是我的徒弟
Oh yep. You mean he?
He's my disciple.
你的徒弟怎麼對你那麼樣子
How come your disciple treat us like that?
沒有禮貌
He was so impolite!
不會不會
It's no big deal.
我的徒弟對我很好
My disciple treats me well.
這個信徒就說 怎麼好
The devotee replied: I don't think so.
你看叫你去倒茶
He asked you to pour me tea.
他只叫我倒茶
The old monk said:
But he just asked me to pour tea.
他沒有叫我燒茶
He didn't ask me to boil tea,
燒茶去就比較辛苦
which is more fatiguing.
叫你去切水果
The devotee said:
He also asked you to cut fruits?
是啊 他叫我切水果這個很簡單
You're right.
But that's an easy task to do.
他叫我去種水果
If he asked me to plant fruits,
那就辛苦了 就麻煩了
that would be more fatiguing.
這個信徒這麼一聽
Upon hearing his answer,
他說 你們究竟是哪一個
the devotee said: Which one of you,
師父大還是徒弟大
you the master or he the disciple,
is the biggest?
唉呀 出家了沒有什麼大小
He answered: Aiya!
We don't care about it after ordination.
他年紀輕做重要的事情
He's young,
so he is in charge of important jobs.
我年紀老了
I'm old,
就是倒茶、掃掃地、切水果
so I pour tea, sweep the floor,
and cut fruits.
這就是從禪定帶來的修養
This is the cultivation
brought by dhyana.
所以我們中國的婆媳之間
Among Chinese, between mothers-in-law
and daughters-in-law,
人我之間
between you and me,
父母子女之間
and between parents and children,
常常有對立糾紛
there are often disputes.
假如像這個老和尚
I wish they could be like this old monk,
這麼樣子開通自在
who is open-minded and carefree,
定 禪定的功力很重要的
The practice of dhyana is very important.
