묘법연화경(妙法蓮華經) 제7권 다라니품(陀羅尼品) 中
‘Yongsi(勇施)Bodhisattva’ 전생의 독사(毒蛇)였던 때의 일이었다. 숲 속에서 생식으로 살아가던 고독한 수행자를 만나 그를 스승으로 섬기면서 경(經)을 배우고 함께 도(道)를 닦았다.
It was a time when 'Yongsi (勇施) Bodhisatva' was a poisonous snakein his previous life.
He met a lonely practitioner who lived in the forest through reproduction and served him as a teacher. I learned the scriptures and practiced them together.
독사가 지극한 경지를 터득하게 되었지만. 계절이 바뀌고 겨울이 되어 음식을 구할 수 없게 되자 수행자는 숲을 떠나게 되었다.
Although the viper has learned a great degree. As the seasons changed and food became unavailable in winter, the practitioner left the forest.
수행자가 떠나고 홀로 남은 독사는 큰 상실감에 빠졌다.
The viper, who left the attendant alone in the forest, fell into a great sense of loss.
인간으로 태어나지 못하고 있는 자신의 업보와 무명(無明)을 끝내기 위해 투신 자살로 목숨을 끊었다.
He killed himself by jumping to end his karma and obscurity, which is not being born as a human being.
이로서 그는 즉시 천상세계 도솔천 천인으로 태어났다.
As a result, he was immediately born as a Tushita Heavenly man in the heavenly world.
하지만, 자신의 모든 업보를 소멸할 수 있도록 지도해준 스승의 고마움을 기억하였고,
즉시 인간세상에 강림하여 대중들 앞에서 수행자를 찬탄하고서 도솔천으로 되돌아 갔다.
However, I remembered the teacher's gratitude for guiding me to extinguish all my karma,
Immediately, he came back to the human world and praised his entourage in front of the public and returned to 'Tuṣita(兜率天)̣'.
천상세계에서 수명을 마치고 나서 인간세상 장자(長者)의 집안 여자아이로 태어났다.
After his death in the heavenly world, he was born as a girl from a family with a high reputation in the human world.
14살이 되었을 때, 석가모니부처님이 마을 집 앞까지 걸식을 위해 다가온 것을 보고 마침내 모든 기억을 되살려 기뻐하였다.
즉시 출가하여 부처님께 귀의하고자 하였다.
When he was 14, he was happy to finally revive all his memories when he saw Buddha Sakyamuni coming to the front of the village house for a ceremony.
He immediately went to the church and wanted to return to the Buddha.
그러나, 악마가 나타나 부처되는 수행을 방해하였다.
몸을 던져 자살하면 부처가 될 수 있다고 거짓말로 유혹했다.
However, the devil appeared and interfered with the Buddha's performance.
He lured her into lying that she could become a Buddha if she threw herself and committed suicide.
그러나, 이 여자아이는 부처가 될 수만 있다면,
이 몸과 목숨을 버려도 아까울 것이 없다고 하면서 누각 높은 곳에서 몸을 던졌다.
However, if this girl could be a Buddha,
He threw himself from a pavilion high, saying there was nothing to be desired to give up his body and life.
여자아이의 지극한 믿음과 원력의 힘이 작용했다.
땅으로 떨어지던 몸은 도중에 멈추고 남자아이로 변하였고, 안전하게 땅을 딛고 서게 되었다.
The girl's extreme faith and power worked.
His body, which was falling to the ground, stopped on the way and turned into a boy, and he stood safely on the ground.
이러한 사연으로 보살마하살의 몸을 갖추게 되었다.
This story gave him the body of Bodhisattva Mahasattva.
죽음을 두려워하지 않고 몸과 목숨을 바쳐서 도(道)를 구하였기에, ‘용시(勇施)’라는 명칭을 얻었다.
He did not fear death and sacrificed his body and his life to save Tao,
It was given the name 'Yongsi (勇施)’
훗날 석가모니 부처님께서 묘법연화경(妙法蓮華經) 말씀하실 때에,
Later, when Buddha Sakyamuni aexplained the Myobeopyeonhwagyeong(妙法蓮華經),
그곳에 있던 용시보살 마하살이 부처님께 예를 올리고 다라니를 설하였으며, 이 다라니를 받아 지니는 사람은 자신의 목숨처럼 수호할 것임을 서원하였다.
‘Yongsi(勇施)Bodhisattva Mahasattva’, who was there,
I worshiped Buddha and preached Dharani.
If there's anyone who's taking this Dharani,
He made a vow that he would defend himself like his own life.
