同時在澳洲同加拿大生活過，我一直好奇為什麼兩國環境相近，都以壙業為主，而且加拿大是第４大石油生產國但澳洲沒有產石油，但物價加拿大會比澳洲貴相當多，各種像稅務、申請各種文件在加拿大都比澳洲麻煩，而且收入澳洲比加拿大高太多了，特別是入門類工作

Tbh, most places in the US Hong Kongers will move to are HCOL areas. If you work for tech companies, even if you don’t specifically work in engineering capacity, you can easily get paid 100k+ mid-career. If you are an engineer, I’d say 100k is the bare minimum offer one should accept anywhere because even remote jobs are paying more than that. Companies that pay below are usually not good places to foster technical talents.

Not to mention a lot of top tier tech companies offer COLA ;)

Yes, for very rich HK people or middle-class to rich people during 90"s. However, most of the HK 救生艇people will not return to HK like these of 90s. Because most of middle class have sold their HK properties. Also, HK people who work as employees. After paying high rent as older employee(40-50yr return age), their paid cheques are less -- Even they return to HK--lower standard of living in HK. P.S. Exception: the taking care of their parents.

Honestly they don’t have the funds to afford Canada and truly US is more affordable to these newcomers from HK. We have bought up the market already.

美國稅每年都有foreign income tax exclusion的threshold。如果回流香港，拿2023年的threshold 來看，一年賺的頭120k美金的稅務是不用付的。普通香港人回流香港根本不用繳稅，因為120k一年在香港太難賺了。🤷🏻‍♂️

We pay tax for the welfare of the whole country, like the health care system. Not what is better for oneself but for the whole.

Correct! People from Canada works in USA sometimes are on contract job and they still have their house with mortgage in Canada, so they have to do both side taxes filing.

@@PeterWong-pb5es No, their marriage does not need to be dissolved, but they have to fulfil certain criteria for tax filing. The details have to go to CRA to read through the lists.

Therefore, I was wrong - a non-resident only need to pay tax to Canada on the income he/she earns in Canada. The income , which he/she earns in USA, does NOT need to report to Canadian government

It is simple human psychology - if a person works hard but receives no reward, he or she will stop working. Are you suggesting that people who are compensated for their work are somehow "sponging" the country or company? Regarding health insurance, yes, the entire medical system in the US is far from perfect, but Canada is not faring well either. I waited for two years to secure a family doctor, and during each visit, I am only allowed to ask one question. On the other hand in the US your employer will often cover your medical insurance, and you may not even need to do co pay or deductibles. Also the service quality is significantly better than in Canada.

A country function by its people working together, pay tax, get infrastructure built, public institutions established etc etc, not by people who are out for themselves only. In my part of Ontario, healthcare is first class, based on my personal opinion. By the way, if the USA is so good, why are you still suffering in Canada?
