Amazing singer. Love her beautiful voice. Born to Japanese parents in Manchuria China and was given both a Japanese and a Chinese name. She was caught in the middle during the Sino-Japanese War but she still became a big star in China and in Japan. Just goes to show that music transcents nationality and war and lives forever everywhere.
As much as the beauty of the song, as Japanese descent I cannot take my eyes off from these soldiers look on the faces. I think they never knew how desperate they are until she sang this. “What the hell am I doing here?”
the citizens of Sendai may remember this song from the loud blaring music siren of the Marumitsu Department Store that played from 1953-1985, 10AM-9PM every day
@treemarks She was ever a welll-known songster and film-actress during the Sino-Japanese War in 1937. It is said she was ever yearning for becoming a journalist when she was a schoolgirl. However, as she has a genius for singing, and what's bettter, she has grown up to be a charming woman, she becomes a famous singer and movie star in Japan.
