今天和各位講的這個題目

昨非今悟
realizing one's past fault today.
這很有道理
This is a sensible remark.
過去種種昨日死
Everything ended in the past.
未來種種猶如今日生
Everything in the future
arises from today.
我們必定
We must have some
過去很多的不好的習氣
bad habits in the past
或者一些過失
or some faults.
有時對人不起的
If our faults cause others trouble,
把它改了
we should reform them.
過去好像讓它死亡讓它過去啦
Let bygones be bygones in the past.
未來的日子很要緊
The future is more important,
猶如今日生
like what we have today also arose yesterday.
所以像晉朝的陶淵明
Tao Yuanming in the Jin Dynasty
在《歸去來辭》裡面
wrote in his book "Home Haste":
覺今是而昨非
I feel myself right at present,
wrong in the past.
啊 我覺悟了
Oh I am awakened.
今天是對的
Today I am right,
昨天不對 昨天錯了
but I was wrong yesterday.
這就是進步
This is improvement.
我要告訴各位一個祕密
I'd like to tell everyone a secret.
我初出家的時候
When I became a monastic,
我的師父對我說
my master told me
特別看得起
because he thought highly of me,
邀約了好多的前輩、長老在議和
he invited many seniors and the elders
為我起一個名字
to give me a new name.
我最早學名
My earliest name used
讀書的名字、出家的名字
in the monastic school
叫今覺
was called Jin Jue.
這個名字我也不懂
I didn't know much about this name
現在才懂
until now.
這個老師知識是很聰明
The teacher was very smart
對我很好
and very nice to me.
今覺
Jin Jue means
今天覺悟了
today I am awakened.
今天明白了
Today I realized
我過去都錯了
that I was wrong in the past.
我現在懂了、我知道了
I understand it now.
這個今覺真很好
I think this name is really good.
所以我如果說
Thus I always think that:
早一點知道這個今覺很好
if I had known that the name
Jin Jue was so good in meaning,
我也不一定叫星雲
I wouldn't have call myself Hsing Yun.
星雲是後來覺得改一個名字
Hsing Yun is a name
I gave myself later.
星雲是這個宇宙銀河系
Hsing Yun means the milky way
in the universe.
這個世界上虛空
The universe is empty
沒有的時候就有這個星雲團
except that there are nebulae which are
很大、很高、很多
very great, tall and excessive.
我想這個星雲很好
I think this name is good.
其實你星雲不悟 不覺悟也不好
If Hsing Yun is not awakened,
it's not good.
今覺 我今天覺悟了
Jin Jue means today I am realized.
這個很好
This is very good.
我覺悟我對父母孝順不夠
I realized that I was not good enough
to my parents.
我覺悟我對於兒女教育不好
I realized the education
I gave to my children was not good enough.
我覺悟我對朋友誠信不夠
I realized I was not trustworthy to my friends.
我覺悟我對人幫助不夠摯誠
I realized I was not sincere enough
to help people.
我覺悟了
I realized it all.
覺悟了就是你就有進步
Having realized means you get improvement.
人家就歡喜就能
People are pleased
就說龍天歡喜了
in merriment.
覺悟了
When one realizes
一個人有覺悟就有進步
and is awakened, he makes improvement.
有進步不容易
It's not easy to improve oneself.
人在世間上
As a person in the world,
他就是想不斷的要昇華
all he wants is keep growing
人在世間上就不斷的要想往前走
and moving ahead
要進步
with a lot of improvements.
人在世間上
To live in the world,
你糊裡糊塗的過了一生
if you live your life
without achieving anything
七十歲、八十歲、一百歲
until 70, 80 or even 100 years old,
有什麼用呢
what's the meaning of your life?
假如你覺悟的人生
If you are awakened in your life.
做一些有意義的事情
you'll do something meaningful,
做一些對世間上
something helpful to the world.
所謂立功、立德、立名
This is to build your merits,
virtues and fame.
立的這好事
You are doing good deeds
讓人家懷念
to make people remember you.
所以昨天迷惑 今天開悟
The confusion I had yesterday is
replaced by enlightenment today.
對我們很重要
This idea is very important.
大家要有這種今覺的心
We must learn to get awakened today.
