Shit I almost threw my boot at the screen due to that spirit that was at the end of the hall, after looking at that red umbrella. Nothing should be coming towards the screen that damn fast. Bout died. Best upload yet!! Cant wait for Part 2, 3, 4 and etc...lol
The bathroom tripped me out. My grandma's bathroom in a small town in Taiwan looks almost exactly like the one in this game right down to the candy-colored pebble bathtub and everything. All these years I thought it was custom made.
Magic! I was going to ask if you intended to play this. ✿ Such beautiful visuals, wonderfully creepy atmosphere, and threatening life-size dolls--what more could one want? The folks at Red Candle have really come through again. "House," btw, is a game some children play which mirrors their idea of family life. I did not play house, preferring to strip my dolls naked, stuff them in a drawer, and go play outside. ツ
This game is so amazing. The ever changing rooms and times and little spookiness of the doll people moving! Love it! This is why I love your channel you find such fun creepy games!
I straight up yelped at 7:18. Also, 5:30 gave me extremely strong PT vibes. The whole play through was fantastic and I can't wait for the rest. It's been a while since I've seen another game give off such an eerie/suspenseful/uncomfortable atmosphere and I'm so happy to see you play it CJU!
Detention was excellent, so bring on the Asian horror. Edit: seriously the audio is killing me it's so good. That metronome in the bedroom was stressing me out lol.
This is definitely a very Chinese story. As a person from that area who lived thru that similar period, this game definitely feels nostalgic in some ways, understanding of the situation in others.
24:37 There were more doodles on the wall you didn't get a good look at that show the girl with syringes in her like the doll. Also a number of other things, pills near a drawing of her father crossed out, a kid bound (possibly strung upside down?) holding flowers, a girl cut open, a lady with a cleaver (maybe the wife) and 'stabbed' rabbits, etc.
I heard about the Baby grab in a heart warming context, a Grandfather set it up for his grandson and sat behind the objects. The kid crawled past the objects and grabbed the grandfather, chose the grandfather, the guy didn't realize he, family, was an option.
@15:20 those dolls were meant to mean for the dead as servants or someone to be with our ancestors when they're down there (in hell/inferno/underworld/afterworld/world of the dead)
Would like to add to here something I wrote at another site earlier. Please enjoy. For those curious about the homophonic objects at the 18:35 mark in this playthrough, "Garlic" in Chinese would sound like "Suen yung" while "to calculate" would use the term "Gai suen". (Sharing the same sound of "suen"). "Onion" would be "Yeung chung" while "being smart" would be "Chung ming" (Sharing the same sound of "Chung"). For me, living in Hong Kong for half of my life, this game has been very nostalgic, recognizable and also very sad. A lot of these incidents in which religious swindlers take advantage of depressed people at the low point in their lives are very common, considering Hong Kong has both a thriving religious/superstitious traditional culture, especially among the older population. Because of the swindlers stealing so much from those people, there had been many suicides and loss of fortune during those times. Hong Kong may have changed financially since then, but a lot of scars from those incidents are still there, especially in the Upper Kowloon and New Territories areas. The graphics from this game, and the recreation of the apartment, sounds, TV shows, etc are very spot on. Back in the 80's, there were definitely many competition shows like the one in this game. And yes, many apartment complexes in Hong Kong are as dirty, filthy and unmaintained, as showcased in the game, partially because of certain residential areas not receiving enough funding for maintenance and trash disposal, but also because being in a high humid area with near constant rains makes those interlocking hallways look exactly as you see them in this game. I do also remember watching some of those competition showcased in the television. Back in the day I do also remember either of my aunts or my father banging the TV they had at home to get it to work. And yes, the shows during those ages were corny as heck. In some ways, the shows at Hong Kong, China and Taiwan today are more modern, but just as corny. Thank you for doing this walkthrough of this game. This really brought back a lot of memories. In a way, for me, this was not as much of a horror game, as much as it was a documentary of a Chinese family and their nightmare life. The creators of this game do deserve much praise.
Thanks for the explanations! Having lived in Asia most of my life too, I have such a deep love and respect for the varied and wonderful cultures of the various countries here. From China to Thailand, it's just such an interesting, wonderful place that I wish people made use of more. We need more games like this (which is thankfully back up for sale) to show the West that Asia is not just the stereotypical glittering Shanghai that you see in Hollywood movies.
@@TheMadAfrican1 To be said, with the recent exposure to Hong Kong, China, etc from things like the Occupy Protests and COVID-19 and the recent Anti-Asian racism issues, I think more people are definitely curious not just about what the Asian countries look like, but also what the Asian people think of things, what they stand for at the local, not the government level, etc. I do agree that Hollywood has not been kind in putting Asians into one stereotypical "box"... and too many ordinary Asians residing in America, myself included, had paid for this with too many injustices.
@@kreidas123 indeed. I feel like America still continues to misunderstand Asian culture, preferring to put it into boxes. Their recent Mulan, which was supposedly a love letter to Asian culture, turned out to be a weird mix of white sentiments shoehorned into the mouth of Chinese actors, making the whole thing feel so incredibly odd. It's like how China is so much more than just the government, and the people themselves more varied than what most realise. I'm lucky in that as a child I was exposed to a lot of different cultures, and I feel like if we were all given that same privilege, we could learn so much about each other. Living in one place all your life, especially a place like America which can feel as big as the world all by itself, can play a part in narrowing the mind and making one feel as if anyone that doesn't conform to one's own experiences is wrong in some way.
Playing "house" is when kids play pretend, and the characters they play as are that of a family. Like one kid plays the part of the "mommy" one kid is "daddy" one kid is "the child" and another the "sibling/pet". Its like if a kid said they were playing pirates, or cowboys, or knights and princesses for example.
I am really eager to see part two of this game. That poor little girl. I wondered if she might have asthma due to the chest x-ray and the hospital room. I also suffer from asthma being born with it. Funny thing? I'm a dog in the Chinese Zodiac. So I'm just waiting for a dog to pop up on the door. X)
Those hand models are _the best I've ever seen!_ They even touch each other realistically when they are washing. They almost look like *_real_* people's hands! Pretty amazing. The toilet, however, like almost all games, is really dirty! Even if it's a prop they purchased, seems like they could adjust the material. Oh, well... Good game, Chris! Blessings from the future! ;)
the first jumpscare almost made me chuck my (new) phone into the atmosphere T-T held it tightly w both hands after that. the house really reminds me of my grandparents' old home. love the game already, it's creepy and so immersive, can't wait to see more!
This looks like a really great game. Thank you for the walkthrough! XD For the order of Chinese horoscope cycle, I had these memories because each year belongs to the different animal. 1st: Rat 2nd: Ox 3rd: Tiger 4th: Rabbit 5th: Dragon 6th: Snake 7th: Horse 8th: Sheep 9th: Monkey 10th: Rooster 11th: Dog 12th: Pig
Wow, this was amazing CJU! Can't wait for part 2 of this. Speaking of asian horror, do you think we will get to see more of Pamali eventually? I highly prefer watching your LP's over anyone elses, and it's getting rough waiting for more Pamali. Much love!
When I saw the Red Candle logo I was wondering why that seems familiar, and then you said created by the people who made Detection and was oh cool, I enjoyed let's plays of that game... so now I'm more interested to see what they do in this game sinse there now making the jump from 2D to 3D
Oh this looks so good. Creepy and intriguing as can be ... ( I love Asian horror games as well but am far too chicken to play them ..lol) thanks, looking forward to the rest..
Because there was something left in the game by a developer that made fun of the Chinese president. The entire game was pulled, and still gone as I'm typing this..
Playing "house" is basically just playing like you have a family. Like maybe you play the mom, and then a friend plays the dad or the baby, or many times, a kid will play alone as a parent and their dolls will play the other parts, especially babies. Usually there's lots of pretend cooking and taking care of babies involved. I think it makes kids feel like they're in charge of something. I'm surprised you've never heard of it, though maybe I'm just so familiar with it because I'm female. It does tend to be a game preferred by girls, though that's not a rule or anything. Maybe you didn't have little sisters growing up, so you just didn't happen to see or hear a lot of this game in your orbit.
“What’s House?” Really Cju?? I couldn’t tell if you were being sarcastic or not lol, House is the classic game kids play when they make believe they’re all grown up and have a family. Pretty much just emulating their parents and what they’ve learned in their own household with a bunch of fantasy added to it. (Using dolls, stuffed animals, or themselves with friends). Maybe it’s just an American thing, lol.
Not just an American thing...but more likely he's unfamiliar because it used to be more of a "little girl thing". I made my boy cousins play house and they made me play army. But as it goes...'times, they are a changing." Rumor has it that I made the tastiest mud+grass cakes in town.
luluscohen I remember both boys and girls playing house when I was a child. I was always around lots of kids while being babysat and also with my cousins, and both “school” and “house” were among the games we frequently played.
My head spinning around, i cant see clear no more, lol..... how aren't you feeling sleepy and painful headache while you are playing this kind of "move around game". i love horror game but this one hurts my eyes a lot, i dunno why. Can you pls explain ? Is there anyway to increase my ability to see these move around game for a long time ?
Where does all these negative reviews (on steam) written in Chinese come from? Hi! I am a videogame lover. And recently I played Devotion made by RedCandle Games. As you might notice there has been significantly increasing amount of negative reviews on steam page written in Chinese. So to all the English speakers who’re interested in what’s really going on here. I will explain the situation here real quick and try to be as neutral as I can. (Since it is mostly related to political issues, so the best way to avoid it is for y’all to look it up online and dig a bit deeper if you are really interested) Basically, what leads to all these hates is because of one of the Easter eggs hidden in the game as a poster (or a Fulu , to be more accurate)made by the game developer. On the poster, the game developer hidden the information: “Xi Jin Ping, Winnie the pooh, your mom is stupid.” So who is Xi Jin Ping? - Current president of China Why do people call him Winnie the pooh? - Well, lets say some call him that because of his adorable, chubby appearance, and some are not. Wait! So the person who made this Easter egg basically just dislike the president? - It might not be as simple as it seems. While this game is very much based on Asian, especially Chinese culture. The game developers are form Taiwan. And there has been significantly amount of arguments on “whether Taiwan is a part of China or not.” So yep, two main streams of ideas, and you might realize how SENSITIVE these topics are. So which side are you on? - Neither and both. There are people who seek every chance to bicker over this topic. And there are people like me, who seek for peace and try to protect the relations between people even if they share not exactly the same idea. In this case, the only people who made BAD decisions are the game developers. Who are NOT professional, NOT seeking for peace, NOT respecting different cultures. And this is why I am so offended by what the game developer has done. As a video game lover, this is heart-breaking. For video games should bring us joy, not agony. They should respect individuals and their cultures. They should NEVER be a tool to conduct HATES. PEACE.
The second story isn't out yet. And according to the store page, the second story is supposed to be released during the first quarter. Meaning from January to March. So we should be getting the second story soon. The other two will be released during the 2nd and third quarters. For the second quarter, it's from April to June and the third quarter is from July to September. So yeah it's gonna be a while between releases since they have to translate it and all of that.
