Back when I did Karate, we would say the name of the Kata at the beginning, but we would say it from deep in our chest so that it was loud but still understandable. It seems to me that over the past 20 years or so, the demonstrators yell the name of the Kata from their throat, which makes it loud but raspy and unintelligible. To me, it gives the impression of not having the emotions under control. It seems more imposing and powerful to me to act cool and serene.
Don't worry, it's mostly still like that - except in sports karate. This demonstration shows incredible athleticism, but it is a demonstration of what is expected nowadays in a kata competition. Nothing more.
@@Tirza_ I understand, that's good. Many people these days seem to think that if a Martial Art doesn't have a sport part to it, It must be no good. But Karate did just fine before sports Karate was invented. Traditional Karate is still one of my favs, even though I don't do it much any more.'
