"He isn't using any references" "Photographic memory" he has been drawing for well over 3 decades while using references, he's just drawn so much that he can basically pull references from his mind, don't focus on talent, focus on hard work

Yeah, It's like he's watching a huge imaginary grid and he just follows it with all confidence. It's amazing how consistent is every object and character he draws according to the whole composition.
He is truly a master no doubt about it , but the perspective is not that difficult ( assuming you've mastered basic perspective ) He is just using multiple vanishing points
Bollocks.. I can direct you to a hundred artists who can do just such a thing easily. Within a single city. He was really really good for sure but what he did was nothing out of the ordinary. It's like saying you heard Mozart play a piano therefore no one else can possibly play a piano. Get real,
@@justinmorgan2126 I understand what you say but you are wrong, because you are not a artist for sure, and thats is ok, so you cant understand what he is doing, you are rating the final drawing, of course people can draw and painting amazing things, I can do it, give some pic that any experienced artist can copy it, it is not a big deal, but when someone see it think you are the best, the thing is the way he can do it, without looking reference, without sketching or tracing guides to get some sense of space, do all from memory/imagination that is not common at all.
@@justinmorgan2126 okay name *5* artists who can draw hundreds and hundreds of different objects, people, and animals with full detail, perfect anatomy, put all of that into perfect perspective as consistently as jung gi did, and do all of that from *memory* and *imagination* without using any sort of sketch and just straight into ink on the spot without planning it out beforehand other than in his head. I'll wait. if they're really hundreds it shouldn't be easy to just name 5 right?

Tom Pitts You should change your name to Stu... if you don’t reference things you don’t have the knowledge of the components that make up what it is you are drawing.
@@Bagtalk1016 lol i found that out later, but he explains that he uses his surroundings and knowledge as mental references which helps him draw. As an art major myself i can definitely see how he is doin it
I'm convinced there will never be another artist like Kim Jung Gi, a true master in every sense of the word. His death was devestating to hear about. Gone way too soon. RIP.
gremlinsbreath This guy has been studying his trade for over 30 years, it would be moronic to give up because you don't think you'll be able to get there
No matter how many hours he practiced, visualized and studied art or how much native talent he has there is no way he cannot be defined as a superlative genius. It is amazing that he could maintain the initial level of compositional quality and maintain the precision and consistency in perspective across the entire space of the mural wall. I am impressed most of all by the integration of humanity with technology. His drawings truly depicted not just people, animals or technology in context but the true vibrancy of society without the need for abstract styles.
Well put! Indeed he brings so many elements together seamlessly it boggles the mind to imagine, what would the world be like if more people saw things in such an inclusive way? Very uplifting in so many ways.
It’s not just the incredible detail but the fact that he draws straight on to the canvas without preliminary sketches and without making a mistake- mind blown🤯
He admits to making mistakes! As a master in my own trade, meat, it's about how you can work with it or 'fix' it without letting what you've done go to waste!
Ohhh trust me he is make me many mistakes but he’s master to cover them… I love drawing with pencil or marker only black and if you made mistake you can cover it up easily but you must be good 👍… anyway he is the best I’ve seen
There is mistakes in the first 10 seconds. That laptop narrows so much it looks like a football field. his vanishing points are not consistent, but good enough for this style.
The art community has lost a genius. I feel like i also have lost a piece inside me. Rest in peace, you will be remembered forever as one of the Greatest. A really unique talent.
Apart from the drawing which is incredible, I even find it superhuman to have such an enormous visual memory, the details on the mechanics of vehicles, the anatomy of animals, of man ... WAAOOW!
@@TheSmokekoke me too, but i know that man born with talent and, the most affective thing, he take the risk of training every single time just one skill.
Pompom no it is not talent. He just spent more Time and work. People who say its talent are drawing for 1 Hour a week and thinkibg, oh i dont get any better, all the good artist must have talent. Its in every thing you do, if its sports drawing etc. You have to put much Time in it to get better. Just pussys searching for excuses like talent.
@@lentlord 1 HOUR A WEEK is that worse than a drawing everyday? We lost one of the most brilliant mind of the art world. The fact that Mr Jung Gi draw with immense precise and accuracy combined with his insane photographic memory just left me speechless whenever I saw his drawing process
when you have drawn pretty much everything a hundred times for thousands of hours, you can have such an amazing skill as well. Where ideas just flow until your fingers can't hold the pen anymore. Totally mesmerizing to see Kim spill out his fantasies and talent in drawing. Where EVERYTHING is important, the detail is perfect, never too much, just right.
@@justinmorgan2126 Since we are making assumptions about each other, I'm going to say that you seem jealous or bitter. You've made 3 comments on this video throwing a fit over people praising him. Most advanced artists can not draw the way that kim jung gi does. Even artists that share the same level of freehanding skill as him did not get there in a minimum of "5 years"- and those that have made it there in such a short amount of time I believe are worthy of recognition and praise. This style of artwork requires significant training of motor, visual, and memory skill that is rare amongst the millions of artists around the world. But you know, if you drew you'd know that instead of making idiotic comments. ;)
The amount of references that goes into each of these things, the mastery of posing and just putting it on the paper with ease... He is one of the greats and lives on forever. Such a privilege to see him draw, God bless!
+J Taneli He has an astounding memory, he has of course looked at reference beforehand, but to remember so much information of an object like this, and rotate it and light it from a certain angle completely different from the original reference is completely mesmerizing and outstanding. It´s improvised because there is no previous sketch of the overall perspective and you can tell he is making up the composition as he is sketching. I guess the term is always confusing because some find it implies that he is completely making every design out of his mind, which is not true, he´s a great observer and has a great memory. It´s always amazing to watch him draw.
Carlos Pineda he likely didnt look at something previously. if he had been doing it his whole life he could have imagined it and recalled drawings he had previously done for the ellaborate engine and bodies etc
My thing is: I draw and play what I see and hear in my head, so it is not hard for me to believe that he did *ALL OF THIS* without presketching it in pencil. That's how I've been doing my comic strips my entire life, and that's how I make my music.
I think he's even more impressive than many of the so-called savants, because its not just he has great memories but his sense of proportion and perspectives is so much more accurate ...
@@quickstep2408 quite the opposite. Often he draws himself in many of his paintings. You should see his sketchbooks (You don't need to buy one it's on RU-vid too). You should be surprised as he takes things too far sometimes.
master kim draws from imagination, no guidelines no references... he actually gives lectures on anatomy, he says if u learn the anatomy of the human body it makes it easier to draw.. he also talks about fish eye perspective which is where u train your eyes to see the shape and form of every object you see constantly, like u can't just look at it... u have to intensely observe it. every thing you see can be broken down into pieces and simplified with basic shapesn u can't just think about it from one angle but multiple angles its mostly about storing visual memory data in your brain and rally cramming it in there so I t makes it easier to draw
Troll Luhluh hmm...I rely on similar techniques as a cartoonist. I have a photographic memory, and a vivid imagination...but i am NOT as detail oriented as he is. My style is simple and cartoonish.
what amazes me is that he can draw such a detailed picture just out of his mind without looking at anything like a picture or photography.....mad skillZ !
I've met him and had the pleasure of getting to actually watch him do this stuff in person. He's got a special kind of mind; it's almost as if his brain is "projecting" a perfect image into his field of vision and he's just "tracing" what his brain produces. It's magical to see...
@@chrisdominguez5097 every one has their own preferences impressionist art, but this has marker lines and ink colors. Who knows what comic and fantasy game art fans like just other virginous men.
@@luismangiaterra1031 And "marker lines" and "ink colors" are too much of a "flaw" that the level of detail and accuracy of perspective, anatomy, mechanics, and the story being told are off no consideration anymore rendering ALL the portions of the art piece "not looking good"? Really? That's how you work out which art is good looking for you and which isn't? That's absurd. Not to mention the fact that the "flaws" you pointed out are obviously an artistic choice. He's definitely going for that ultra-detailed and realistic comic style art.
I see it and I can't believe it. It doesn't seem humanly possible to keep that much information in the human mind and have the talent to bring it into reality with all of the foreshortening, perspective, alignment and character in perfect order.
@@agusxlsaraya7201 most people never attain this level of mastery. that's what he meant. it's clearly true. if u follow the history of sports in general u will see there are people who come once every few generations only.
Je dessine depuis ma tendre enfance et je n'ai jamais vu une technique pareil comme la sienne, cet artiste est un extraterrestre. je n'en reviens toujours pas qu'il soit parti. Repose en paix monsieur . la légende continue.
So he took a Huge canvas, kept on adding characters, stuff, vehicles etc...just went on using any space that was left vacant, without letting his doubts come in the way.. Man this is how Imagination without boundaries must look like, he isn't scared a bit of ruining anything! Such a master♥️
My heart is broken....always thought he is a true living legend. Now he is no more. His genius was supernatural. Whoever sent him to the mortal realm must have missed him enough to want him back. May you rest in peace!
God mode. He seems all of his mind’s imagination and learned to express its imagery. I too as an artist want to become as emerged in completion of within as when out. This is electrifying reflection of what joy is; art!
This is not mere skill and practice. This is not an attainable level of acquired knowledge and technique.... This is magic. This is supernatural. There will never be another Kim Jung Gi.
Without noticing, you are actually dimishing his efforts. There is no magic there, just constant hard work and years of pratice and study. There is, of course, some level of personal intrinsec influences, but that does not mean he did not work his ass of to hone his skills. Mozart adresses this very though in one of his letters, saying people think that all comes easy for him, forgetting his years of study and intensive labor in music since he was a child. I'm not offending you, but usually people say that to feel better for not trying so hard.
@@4nnd711 I think he does have really good image memory instead of photographic. Having photographic memory doesnt help a lot because it overwhelm your mind and senses but if you just have good image and detail memory you can break down what you see as detail instead of just whole image. A lot of people with photographic memory has trouble concentrating and focus on a task.
@@MrDeathCell I think being kinda mindful also helps. Being sensitive or even highly sensitive also helps if you want to study these things ( in my opinion) but if it comes to noise (espacially large groups of people or traffic) it can really be to much for me. There are always pros and cons! No matter what ^^
This man has a visual library of a hundred lifetimes!! He must have filled out thousands of sketchbooks to almost conjure a staggeringly detailed story out of 'thin air'. Amazing.
I agree with you... Koreans are back to front when it comes to names and even grammar... they say the Last name first and then the first name... and almost all korean first names are two syllables... in the western world his name would be Mr Jung Gi KIM...
Rest in the peace maestro kim jung gi. You will always be remembered as great. Love his drawings and his performances. Its like his imagination continues to grow while his hands are capable of keeping up. Its like the perspective lines are in his head, we cannot see but its true in his brain.
I was so impressed by Kim Jung gi when I first saw his drawings. He is a natural talent, who understands space deeply and the relationships between objects much better than an average artist. His skills in expressing himself with decisive lines is second to none. His talent also includes his vivid memory of minute details of many mechanical systems (cars and engines, for instance), and use them as wish. I was meaning to invite him to give a lecture or a live show at my university for our students. I proposed this to the curator (who's an idiot and severely lakes of a decent sense of fine arts) of our art gallery, but was ignored. RIP, Kim Jung Gi.
he wasn't born with the superpower to randomly remember car mechanical systems... no one is, are you listening to yourself right now? He simply studied anatomy of humans and cars and lots of other things repeatedly for tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of hours learning this
Amazing! Seems like he is directly printing it to the canvass! No guides, initial sketches nor erasures! Marvelling on the projections he has on his mind and render each element on a multiple point perspective! Just amazing!
The pain we admirers of Kim's incredible talent feel can never compare to that of his family and friends, but it is devastating nonetheless. The thought of not being able to see any more of his new work, of not being able to see him again as he performs one of his incredible masterpieces breaks our hearts. Farewell Maestro.
It’s not ever possible getting used to his absence. He taught me a lot as well as he did many artists all over the world. He was just a great source of inspiration. No one can replace the space you left behind. Rest In Peace master.
I think the genius and amazing part of this showcase is not only in his massive mental database of every object in complete sculptural perspective, but also his ability to seamlessly foresee where he is going with his imagery. Even if he ever has a mental lapse or put down a mark by mistake, it'd be hard to tell due to his artistic dexterity and prowess. He is able to turn each mark into something whole and coherent. I wonder how far away he sees his imagery or is it continuous generation of images... or may be his inner process is just completely incomprehensible by mere mortals like me.
