Darik Ivan Cali You're right about the new idols being relevant in the modern Hallyu wave. However, BoA was one of the few K-pop artists relevant in the U.S. at the time of her prosperity BEFORE SNSD and the internet revolution. SNSD got attention BECAUSE of BoA and SM's reputation and the internet allowed people to show their support. For starters, BoA was popular during the J-pop/anime wave that existed in the 1990s and early 00's. BoA gained attention for singing for Inuyasha. Though she was more of a Korean star, she was most popular in Japan, and much of Hallyu wave came from interest with animes and manga that were later adapted into Korean dramas. The Hallyu wave began with dramas like Boys Over Flowers, but that was originally a manga/anime in Japan. BoA is much bigger than just Korea, she also has a huge influence in the J-pop crowd. I remember there were rumors her song Be The One was going to be on Kingdom Hearts, on US message boards. That's how much popularity she had in the U.S.Over the years, that popularity diminished as animes were taken from popular networks in the U.S. and people began showing interest in other Japanese artists, especially rock artists. The Hallyu wave spread Korean artists abroad, and SNSD was a part of that spread. But I learned about SNSD through BoA. I was a fan of BoA since 2003 all the way in the U.S. and all of my geeky anime friends would talk about her from Inuyasha. The internet was still a new thing, but I would watch all of her videos and visit her website.
BoA has been on her game with SM Entertainment and the music industry since she was about 11 or 12 years old. She deserves every bit of congratulatory pats on the backs the industry can give. And then some.
50% of what SMEntertainment now is all because of BoA. She's been with SMentertainment through THICK AND SHIT. SM is not that big when BoA came, BoA helped that company a lot. And she's the pioneer of this Idol's generation.
BoA is the ultimately QUEEN of K-POP. Without her, Korean Pop would not even exist. She is the only Korean singer so far that's same level with Ayumi and Utada. So SNSD and whoever it is should thank her hard work making grounds for the future K-Pop stars. Not only she can dance but she can dance extremely well. BoA forever!!!!
and is okay, attitude like you give me no reason to waste time on. YOU ARE JUST jeaLous! Btw, complicated things would not be successful without simple things. Just like studying......... You have to know you + and - then you can do X and /.
BoA doesn't constantly regurgitate the things she's accomplished. this was her return to Korea from a 5 year hiatus while in Japan. Foremost, without BoA, KPop in Japan, North America, Europe, South Asia, and South America may have never happened. Believe me, Psy wouldn't be where he is today if it weren't for artist like BoA, SNSD, 2ne1, DBSK, SISTAR, and Rain. yah, so she, if anyone, deserves a congrats from her record company. CONGRATS BoA!!! :D lol
i know what you mean. BoA, Rain, and DBSK did pave the way in the beginning, but the new generation of Kpop idols took it to the next level. while the kpop wave started to really garner attention in the U.S. it was SNSD who had the most watched kpop music video. Sistar who held the first #1 spot on the new korean billboard. these groups were just more relevant around the time the hallyu wave came to the U.S. you are right though. i'm just explaining my thought process...
2ne1 literally changed the face of kpop when they debuted. Kpop went from Bubblegum pop to racy and edgy with their debut. SISTAR made history tagging the number one spot on the debut of the Billboard Korean music chart and has topped it with every release since then. plus, i didn't want to make it seem like i was favoring legendary idols over newcomers. there are others, too, but i was just the naming the ones that came to mind.
First of all, this was for a movie called I Am, about all of SM's artist. Second, she doesn't. Whenever people tell her she's a pioneer or a world star she replies "No I'm not, I'm just a singer". She hates it when people say those things to her, or say you have to do this good because you're Boa. She's /incredibly/ modest.
I think you are mistaken in the idea that this is self-promotion of BoA. This is a segment of a film that covers all of her singer/idol company members (i.e., SNSD, SHinee, DBSK, etc). Don't get me wrong, it is a form of promotion, but it was SM Entertainment's decision to promote not only her but her other colleagues as well. In actuality, BoA's cut of the film was relatively short compared to that of other members, but she doesn't need any promotion anyway.
what is that last song called ?! the one in the very end i really want to hear that song and ahhhhh boa u are just amazing.....no one can say she is bad because she is just amazing and the best sining the world!!!!!!!! and yes other korean sings are good but she is the best!
I dont think SISTAR really helped, i mean they're barely started getting popular in 2012. I didnt hear of them until last year/ But Big Bang was one too!~
