Yeah dude, I finally came to the realization tonight that (G)I-DLE has become my favorite girl group. It's been building for a long time, but they're just so goddamn talented and unique. Main note about their music: it's never the same. It's pretty clear they don't fit into any concept and won't be limited to a musical style now. I honestly think Soyeon would just be bored if she wasn't trying something new. And you know what? They're all fucking bangers. Their B-sides are unreal as well. Maze, $$$, Put It Straight, Blow Your Mind (technically a B-side, even though it has a selfie-style MV of them in San Francisco). I mean, all of them, but those 4 stand out. Even their Japanese b-sides: Light My Fire (the only song in their entire discography they didn't write or produce) and For You (Minnie produced this one) are phenomenal. Hann is my favorite song by them. Hann might even be my favorite song in all of kpop. It's just.... It's perfect. It was their first comeback. Latata is probably one of the best debuts by a girl group. Certainly one of the most successful. Senorita is their latin-inspired track, the choreo is inspired by Latin partner dances (either tango or salsa, not entirely sure I'm not a dancer lol). Uh-Oh is their third comeback. Boom-bap hip-hop style. It's fucking awesome. I'm sure with what other people in here have said you can tell Soyeon's part in that is sick. You're not ready. And Lion was their comeback as part of a show called Queendom, where they competed against other girl groups in several rounds, with the final being this comeback. They didn't win, although I think the system was kind of questionable to begin with (even in a perfect world I thought Oh My Girl deserved the W, but that's just me). Either way, their song has been the highest charting since the performances on the show, so they still gained a lot out of the show regardless. You have been missing out man. Big time. I think they're the most special GG in K-pop. Idk if anyone has said it, but side note about the maknae, Shuhua: she's fucking awesome. She very frequently goes without makeup and isn't afraid to post her own selfies without it, plus when people called her out on it (being dicks), she told them off and said "wearing makeup sucks and I like my natural face". As a foreigner maknae still not fully comfortable with the language. You fucking rock, Shushu

(G)I-DLE is a very special group to me. They are insanely talented. They debuted on May 2nd, 2018. So they've only been around for a year and a half. Soyeon (the blonde rapper) writes and composed nearly all their songs. The ones she doesn't do are done by Minnie (the vocalist that hits the high note)

They basically explore a different genre with each comeback, and nail every genre they pull off: LATATA: EDM POP. HANN: A surprisingly dark summer type of song, lots of whistling. SENORITA: Latin inspired (released before Shawn and Camila's in case you're wondering) UH OH: Late 90's/early 2000s Hip-Hop. Aside from LION, they also have a Japanese mini albun and whilst LATATA the JP version is it's main title track, the B-side they tried a new genre outside of things like ballads was soul-funk with LIGHT MY FIRE. If you love heavenly vocals, LIGHT MY FIRE's got some harmonization near the end that sounds like angels themselves.

"I don't know if this is what their music is usually like" Well yes, but actually no. (G)I-dle is a bit of an anomaly in kpop girl groups because they don't fit into any genre or traditional gg concept. Also, each comeback (and B-sides too tbh) has had an entirely new concept and sound. Everything from tropical house to latin pop to early 2000's era boom bap hip hop. All of the title tracks and most of the b-sides are written and produced by Soyeon, the blonde rapper. Her songs tend to be very different from normal contemporary kpop but she does have a signature production style. So many (G)I-dle songs have the same basic building blocks but the end result sounds entirely different. It's as she says in her rap: "We tear down your suffocating prejudice" which I think is very much directed at kpop conventions, especially in girl groups. I would love to see more (G)I-dle reactions from you in the future since you seemed to really enjoy this one.
