Almost all Disney villains have understandable reasons why they became "evil",but you don't notice that in the movies (of course) because the movies aren't about the villains (they aren't the main characters) and the reason why they became the way we know them is often in their past/childhood ... But there are enough books about it, for example Scar's past: "A tale of two brothers" and Ursula's past: "A tale of a sea witch". I didn't read many of them but I can give you an example: Scar (The Lion King) He was neglected by his father (Ahadi) since the day he was born. His real name is "Taka" which literally means "Dirt" while his brother's name Mufasa means "King".However he was also treated as if he was "worth less" and since he was disinterested as the second son of the king anyway you can understand well why he became jealous and hateful... Hans (Frozen): He was the youngest of 13 brothers and was mistreated by his father and brother because he had the image of a weakling and was (according to his father) too mild- mannered, which should be compensated for with regular abuse. He soon succumbed to depressions and became cold-hearted and manipulative as we know him from the movie "frozen". ... But how I said: There are many more books about "why the Disney villains" became evil even from a few fairy- tail villains. Now that we clarified that, I hope it's no longer a problem that I have a different opinion than you...

More like his neutral. Rameses becomes a villian when Moses ran away and left a scar in his heart which hardened made him become cruel and twisted with anger, pride and hatred.

Which is why Moses let Zipporah escape.

i like how in this film there are more complex situations than any other religion themed film. in any other version of this, all Egyptians are cartoonishly evil from the beginning. but this film shows good people everywhere, even Faroh is portrayed as caring about his sons, but having to maintain the ancient rule at the same time. the only really bad characters are Hotep and Hoy, the priests, which are cartoonishly evil. but the rest are more complex, and having a gentle hearted mother and a stoic but kinda caring father makes it far more enjoyable

Vasili Stan I do think the Egyptians had the capacity for good but don't let the isolation of these scenes deceive you. Good people do not turn a blind eye to injustice. Also, you must comprehend the degree to which the queen profits from slavery. If you want to make the case that in those times the Queen was more of a trophy than a monarch; one this movie shows that Seti does listen to her, two she is well aware of the injustice she profits from, now she may have been by the river during the genocide. Still, that same genocide is written on the walls. Moreover, later in the movie, Moses realises that he has been turning a blind eye to injustice and even says that Aaron was right to condemn him ”I didn't see because I didn't want to see”. In conclusion yes real evil people are not moustache-twirling, maniacal laughing or whatever colloquial hyperboles that are frequently used to symbolise evil. They are much more like you and me, but that makes them no less evil and do not be deceived.

@@michelclarke9996 Of course. God blessed the Pharaoh who listened to Joseph; He rewards good behaviour when He sees it. He is merciful, after all. But this shows the point of Jesus' sacrifice. Good people get twisted into doing bad acts, and that's why we needed Jesus to save us. The fact is we've all sinned, even if we're otherwise good people, and that's unacceptable in God's eyes. We're only saved by His mercy.

the way the movie portrayed there brotherly relationship was sweet but in the Bible Pharoah actually, sought to kill Moses when he found out he murdered the man and Moses immediately fled into the desert from there. Moses and Ramases actually did not grow up together and didn't have much of a relationship. There are many things this movie got wrong about the true story but it is still an entertaining and inspiring film

@@franktruth9639 Because lion king formed the moral compass of a generation and this movie is too nuanced to influence children and arguably not appropriate to even show to kids considering how many people are murdered, enslaved, and the actions of the characters could portray bullying and abuse as funny to young children who usually take things at face value. As far as im concerned this is an adult animated film and a masterful one at that. Also old people have some weird phobia or bias against animated shows.

Well it does give us a real reason to understand why Moses feels so terrible later on in the film. It makes him more believable as a lost fool before he is redeemed.

Moses is one of the best characters ever

In a way he did safe her twice after, first it was better to fall in water rather than man handled or harmed by the palace guards , and two when he saw her sneaking out of the place that night he sent the guards away so she wouldn’t get caught

Yep, a bath can be VERY harmful... C'mon, she was a captive, a slave. The way she was treated was in fact very lenient, afterall she just tried to bite heir to the throne - not the smartest move for someone in her position. In my opinion it wasn't a show of strength/character but one of stupidity.

Yeah. For as harsh as Seti is with Rameses, it comes out of genuine concern. He knows he won’t be around forever and wants to make sure he can entrust his empire to a worthy successor, once he dies. Rameses, so far, hasn’t proven himself to be this worthy successor with his behavior and needs to be held accountable for it.

It’s great that they built up their close relationship; so it would be more devastating that they ended up fighting each other

Akhenaten was never the weak link in the chain. In the political sphere, he had simply not worried about possible revolts, a detail that his successors think about. He was an "out of the box" personality, but certainly not the worst of the pharaohs. Not even the best, and certainly not a man of action, but I think talking about a weak link is too much for even him (in fact, his dynasty does not disappear. If it were the downfall of Egypt, we would have had a political breakdown, like occurred in 476 AD for the Western Roman Empire)

In the Taiwanese Mandarin dub, Seti calls Rameses a "扶不起的阿斗" (fú bù qǐ de ādǒu) which means a weak and inept fool, someone who cannot be helped, or a hopeless case.

Very well animated too! How it jerks upwards like that syncing with Ramses' gesture. And how poised she is. Like she was saying to him don't press it any farther.

There's a lot of really neat details in Queen Tuya's behaviour throughout the movie, like this one. She seems to be pretty sharp and cunning, like when she advises the boys on how to behave while they are before the crowd of people and their Father. I suppose, one could hardly be a queen, without the sharpness and smarts to get you in this position.

There never were plagues. Some could say that this would exclude him from beeing the ramsis but others would answer that the bilblic story is made up anyway and took ramsis II because of his relevance as the greatest and grandest of all the pharaohs.

Except he was a brutal, arrogant, egotistical dictator.

He kind of is though. Sure he had real human emotions, and his motivations were not EVIL, as all he wanted was a strong kingdom. The problem is he was completely apathetic to everyone he considered beneath him. You can see it here. He wasn’t sadistic enough to rape the foreigner, but at the same time he didn’t value her life enough to prevent Moses from doing it. It’s foreshadowing how he saw the enslavement of the hebrews. It wasn’t based on racial hatred, but he was too apathetic to value their autonomy over the greatness of his dynasty.

And then, later on, we see Ramses's statue in the background, dwarfing his father's in comparison.

And then both crumble to pieces under the weight of someone much more powerful than them

I think it's more to represent that he is the kingdom of Egypt.

I just realised from watching this that the Royal Family, bar Moses, we’re all played by English actors, so this further shows that Moses was adopted because he speaks more like the Hebrew slaves than his parents and brother. (I know this is just because of the casting choices but it was a good move.)

Really illustrates how one views their children. The youngest is looked fondly and is often overlooked alleviating the burdens. Whilst the eldest is frowned on and pressured for they are viewed as the one to lead before the youngest. It's a raw look to how siblings often rival each other due to the fact of how the adult raises them.

@@clovebeans713 I’m basically referring to Moses unknowingly joking about their future of the entire dynasty falling apart in his brother’s pursuit of the Israelites. The pyramids was just a generalization of the joke as well an additional reference to a modern expression “there goes the neighborhood” which is an exclamation after a negative change affects someone's neighborhood. In this case, the pyramids being said neighborhood.

@@clovebeans713 Keep in mind that in the Bible he’s only listed as “The Pharaoh” and they only made him Ramses at the time of the movie’s production at the time since research at that point led people to believe that the two were one and the same. It was later revealed that at least two mummies (including Ramses II) were tampered with and had parts stolen upon their initial study so it’s honestly hard to say which one it was assuming it was any of them. And these are only the corpses that were still preserved to this day. If the Pharaoh really did die in the ocean, there’d be hardly any body to recover. Again, assuming what remained of his people even dared into the Red Sea to bring their king home to be entombed. Now, that’s all circumstantial, but it is also explained that the reason they don’t mention a name and just his title is because this part of the Bible is written long after the events occur. And there wasn’t exactly a way to look up all the Pharaohs and their histories. So the author couldn’t figure out the name and therefore left it at just pharaoh. The other reason is because historically speaking there was evidence of certain pharaohs misrepresented themselves in their records found on monuments, temples, and burial chamber walls. Like forging evidence. So there could easily be inconsistencies on who was legit and who wasn’t, as well as all they’ve accomplished. However there is scientific evidence of the plagues actually happening so at least we have that. Sorry if I’m getting a little thesis-ish. This movie fascinates me not only on a story and animation level but on a historical level too.

To govern a large nation to control people and do bad things with good intentions for the state of their people. They must burden the blame and issues at hand which they understand responsibility. @@jollygoodgordon5580 Yes I know they were colonised by arabs lol. Prior to this, they still looked much more similar to arabs than sub Sahara Africans. North Africa and Arabia were/are in close proximity to each other, so it would make sense for their inhabitants to look similar. Similarly, many western asians e.g Armenians, Georgians etc looks very similar to southern Europeans, as their countries are right next to teach other, despite being on different continents

Egypt may be in Africa. But the pyramids are geographically closer to Israel than any other modern African country. The Pyramids are closer to Israel than modern Egypts own South and Eastern borders. The ancient Egyptians being semetic peoples make sense given that the earliest civilisations and Empires originated in the region just to its East.
