The first group of Hakka people who migrated to Mauritius traveled thousands of miles from Meizhou China. They departed from Song kou Pier, took boats and then journeyed to Indian Ocean, venturing into the world. Among them, some returned home in prosperity, while others departed without knowing when they would return, settling down on the island. this interviewee narrates how his ancestors struggled to survive on the island and shares the true story of how he managed to leave the island behind.
