I mean, the character of Ryan implies that it isnt a father figure that he was missing that lead to him being the way he is, but a mother figure. Plus the whole Stillwell obsession. And the milk thing. Plus that scene with the guy that lead the project that was raising homelander. It couldn't be more obvious that him not having a mother is what the writers are implying is one of the rout causes of him being so unstable.
