@@exiavaganzaHe wouldn't say that at this point because underneath his narcissistic grandiose perception of himself there's the same insecure child starved for attention and affection (vulnerable narcissism), which, at this point, he still tought he needed to be likable to have. Then, when he's told about the popularity ratings from this speech, he starts realising he really doesn't need to. Maybe he needed to be likeable at the very beginning of his superhero career, but as long as he act like an unhinged a murderous psycho with no possible excuse and he stands for some kind of cause, enough people are going to cheer for him. The ending where he kills the guy who threw something at his son is just the culmination of this realisation.

Honestly, this speech is the most heroic thing Homelander does in the show. He legitimately stands up to an evil corporation that uses, lies to, and manipulates the populous for profit and doesn't care who they hurt. Im not saying Homelander isnt insane but I think a lot of people had moments like this where someone you know are not on your level keep talking to you like they are after you've tried your best to be polite or at least civil with them?? The infuriating part isn’t even Homelander telling everyone he’s basically a God to these people, it’s the dude who’s dating MM’s ex drinking the koolaid. Crazy mad people will always say crazy mad things; it’s when people buy the hype so easily that it’s a real problem.
