0:00 - Introduction to DIY Built In Shelf with wood laid out on my workbench.
0:31 - Closeup of T-111 wood where I am going to cut out the notches that will be for studs.
1:42 - Explanation of how the cleats will be positioned at correct height for the DIY built in shelf.
2:59 - All of the notches are now cut for the DIY built in shelf using a jigsaw outside of my shed.
4:08 - Had to make an extra cut for the DIY shed shelf due to a 2X4 in the corner of my shed.
4:42 - I show a dry fit of the shelf without the cleats below the DIY built in shelf. Nice fit!
6:33 - Began the process of nailing the cleats for the DIY Shelf with my brad nailer.
8:14 - Securing the second set of cleats for the DIY built in shelf.
12:36 - Securing the final cleats in the corner of the DIY built in shelf.
13:15 - Placing the shelf on top of the cleats of the DIY shed shelf.
13:57 - Securing the DIY built in shelf from the top down using my brad nailer.
14:48 - Checking the level of the DIY built in shed shelf and it is smacker!
15:22 - I added an extra cleat in front and it looks nicer that way.
16:53 - One final look at the DIY built in shelf before I load it up.
17:45 - My DIY shed shelf all loaded up!
18:50 - Final words and conclusion of my shed shelving - DIY built in shelf video. Thanks!

I'm glad you liked it! Just remember, these shelves are best for items that are fairly light. If you need to add heavier items you can add more support below. Best, Bob

Thanks but just remember to put lighter objects on top like boxes of screws, etc unless you want to supplement with metal shelving hangers underneath at each stud for added support. Then you can put much heavier items on top! Thanks so much for your comment. :-) Best, Bob

Thanks a lot! I appreciate your comment. Just remember this is for light objects, etc. If you want to put something like full paint cans or anything fairly heavy you could reinforce underneath with metal shelving brackets. Something like this would work well. www.homedepot.com/p/THE-ORIGINAL-GRANITE-BRACKET-18-in-Large-Shelf-Bracket-LSB-18x10/311400400 Best, Bob

A nail gun is better if you’re a professional or an experienced person that knows what he/she is doing. However, for beginners I would recommend using screws because they’re a whole lot easier to get out if you screw up. Also, if you’re using screws you probably want to use a 2x4 cleat instead of a 1x4 cleat because your drill will need more room to work than a nail gun. A drill cannot get that close to the sides.

Is there a reason you used nails imstead of screws? Was it jist an ease ans speed thing?
@TotallyUniqueLife
@TotallyUniqueLife 3 года назад
Hi, yeah pretty much. It was easy to use my brad nailer. You could always reinforce with screws of course. It's your preference. Thanks! Bob

Why you wouldn’t have used 2”x4” cleats instead of pairing the 1”x4” s is beyond me. I wouldn’t feel too confident dropping a heavy load on the front edge of that shelf or using it as a pseudo workbench but it appears to suit your purposes well.
@TotallyUniqueLife
@TotallyUniqueLife 4 года назад
Brian, good point but I don't place any heavy loads on the shelf. It's just for screws, etc. Light stuff.

Daniel, I am so sorry. This comment was being held for review for some reason and I didn't see it. The width is 10 1/4". Sorry again for the late response. Did you end up creating a shelf? Best, Bob

Perfect for my needs. Wasn't built to hold heavy loads.
