One of many lucky Tejanas. I saw her in downtown San Antonio back in the early 90s. We had just returned from Frankfurt, Germany after being stationed there for four years so this was really new. We were behind on what was popular in the states. My grandma would record and send us tapes of episodes of “In Living Color” lol - if that shows how distant and unfamiliar we were with what was going on in the U.S. The music was candy to my ears. Growing up, I liked their cumbias and pop songs more than the traditional sounding Tejano songs. Now as an older adult, I appreciate the Tejano songs. Actually pretty proud of them.

I hate saying this, but Beyoncé is nowhere near Mariah or Whitney. Selena was definitely on the same levels of Whitney and Mariah, but her life being cut in short couldn’t prove that.
