​@@edisontrent618Copyright laws protect everyone equally. So if you want them to go away. Dont complain when Disney steals all of your ideas and does it better than you ever could because they have more money than you. Or heaven forbid Amazon l gets in on that mess.

@@aaronwishard7093 Textbook fool answer. Copyright law protects rights holders, and the rights holders for Disney are corporate CEOs and shareholders. None of the artists who have ever worked on Mickey Mouse hold the rights to him now. Disney ALREADY stole people's ideas and took advantage of how much money they had. Copyright law didn't stop that from happening.

@@aaronwishard7093 ....they already do? Have you not heard of corporations taking the ideas of others to use them, then using money and other forms of power to make the original people stay down? I'd rather the people that make fan works of things, usually better than the original these days because they are made from love and passion, not get shut down by Big Brother government and the Pinkerton stooges.

@@aaronwishard7093 Ideally, at least. Unfortunately, like many laws, there are cases where larger corporations are able to abuse them. Why else is Mickey Mouse not in the public domain yet even though normally, the copyright should've been expired by now? lol Also, I feel like copyright laws should probably change such that either the main author of the work or all the contributors of a work should hold the copyright, and even if those people work for a company, the copyright shouldn't be held by the company itself. The company should just be a means to uphold copyright laws and protect their employees from others violating their copyright (at least, for works produced/published with or by the company), in exchange for a share of the earnings from the copyrighted work. Then there's the issue of fair use. If we can't stretch the definition of parody, there probably needs to be a clause to make song covers and whatnot to be fair game no matter what, albeit with the minimum requirement of giving credit to the original artists and making it clear that it's a cover, of course. UPDATE: Apparently, although Disney still holds onto Mickey Mouse the character somehow, the first ever film he was featured in _is_ in the public domain already.
