After living in both Malaysia and Turkey (Türkiye) for one year, we thought we should share what it's like living in these two spectacular countries. We'll compare the similarities, the differences, the pros, and the cons for living in both Malaysia and Turkey to help you decide which you would prefer. We think both Malaysia and Turkey are fabulous places to live, retire, or become an expat. But which would you prefer, Turkey or Malaysia?
𝗜𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 (𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥 𝟭𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯)
New requirements for MM2H (the federal program) have just been announced:

Turkey has also changed it's immigration rules and now requires the purchase of a property valued at US$200,000 or higher to receive a resident permit.

I'm Malaysian had lived in the UK for about 5 yrs and been to several Western Europe countries and Turkiye once. All I can say is your categorical comments on both countries are fair and I have no reason to think otherwise. As per the question posed on this video I have this opinion: Except for the five daily adzan from many mosques Turkiye is very much similar to other European countries in terms of history, climate, architecture and landscapes, on the other hand Malaysia is very much Asian in those terms, so the slogan "Malaysia is truly Asian." Being a predominantly Muslim country, Malaysia also has the same five daily adzan as Turkiye. So, since the cost of living in the two countries are comparable, for people from four season countries the questions are boiled down to just one, i.e., if you want to experience living in tropical country Malaysia is the obvious choice while Turkiye gives you the experience of living in moderate Muslim country with European atmosphere.

I have been to Malaysia 9 times. To Turkey only once. I do speak Turkish pretty well to get around. I think that Turkey feels more solid overall with generally better quality infrastructure. At the same time, Malaysia has much better food. People are extremely nice in both countries. I’m considering doing the same thing as you. I want to spend at least 6 months in both countries at some point. Driving in Turkey is not that scary. I have driven few thousand kilometers in Turkey. Not too different from the United States. I was planning on going to Turkey again in 2023. But I changed my mind and going to Malaysia for the 10th time. Malaysia is just more fun!

Malaysia wins hands down. Vegetarians and vegans will be hard pressed to find a vegetarian restaurant in Turkey, whereas in Malaysia they can be found everywhere. Almost everyone speaks English in Malaysia; not so in Turkey. Shopping is a pleasure in Malaysia with its ultra modern malls. Malaysia is a food paradise; visitors come from all over the world just to sample its cuisine. Turkey’s food is just meat, meat and more meat. The climate in Malaysia is not much of a problem, as most buildings and public transport are fully air conditioned. What more do you want ? Visit Malaysia- you will fall in love with it.😊

The prices in Türkiye have gone up considerably in the last two years. Two years ago a dozen organic eggs were 22 lira, 2 bdrm apartment was 1500-3000 respectively, car rental 4000 for a month, cherries 20 a kilo and now those same eggs are 75 lira a dozen, 9,000-25,000 lira for a 2bdrm apartment, 30,000 to rent a car for the month and 90 lira a kilo for cherries. Everyday things go up.

Great video! We've been staying in Turkey for 3 years and now consider Malaysia as the next stop. The immigration policy in Turkey has become much stricter over the past two years and the economy hasn't been doing well either - costs for accommodation jumped 3-4 times in popular cities like Istanbul and Antalya so I guess right now Turkey might be significantly more expensive than Malaysia depending on the city. Still, we love Turkey a lot and are very grateful for its hospitality, great people and amazing places.
@snailtravelers
@snailtravelers Год назад
Thanks, and we completely agree with everything you said in your comment. Inflation in Turkey is horrible, and it can be difficult to watch how it is impacting the Turkish people. And, like you said, the weak economy and the fact that the immigration rules keep getting stricter has us wondering if we'll be forced to leave at some point in the future. We just renewed our permit for two years, so we know we're good to stay for at least the immediate future. Where have you lived in Turkey? Thanks for watching, and good luck with your transition. We have more videos about living in Malaysia on our channel page if you're interested.

@@snailtravelers Wow, congrats on the 2 years living permit renewal! Our 2-year permit expires in October and we're at the crossroad of what to do next: try our luck and apply for renewal or move to Malaysia 🙂 We've been staying in Antalya all this time - love this city for its comfort. Living permits are somewhat of a lottery here though, ha-ha 😄But we also traveled a lot to other parts of Turkey, like Mardin, Ankara, Konya and Istanbul. So yeah, will see :) Love your videos guys, already checked your travels in Malaysia and other countries - keep it up! 👍

local fruits in malaysia are way cheaper (westerners always refer to apples and grapes when talking about fruits, as if there are no other kinds).. when u talk about imported ones ofc 'lah' more expensive in Malaysia. I bet, there are no rambutan, durian, langsat, or manggis in turkey.
