Many of the places you have visited, specially in the center, are among my favorites whenever I find myself some time to do as I used to do in the old days when I first got to this amazing city. Like you, the tragedy I see around there is mainly the human tragedy we have allowed ourselves, to the benefit of such few. Thank you for being here, David. You are most welcome.
Your brief opening graphics remain catchy - and nicely brief. It's fascinating to see these deteriorated neighborhoods in Sao Paulo. So much promise in and around Luz station and Central!

Brigadeiro is like chocolate dulce de leche balls essentially. Yum!! That street art was very cool! Also, they have that pão de queijo with catupiry inside!!!
I'm really happy for you overcame addiction! Not everybody happen to have the same fate. Your thoughts on Cracolandia was so human and touchy! I have a friend of mine, he and his wife are struggling to get rid of drugs. We believe in Jesus (I assume you may not be a christian, and that's ok, just to locate you), and with faith and love we believe they'll overcome it someday. Jesus still makes miracles. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Whereever faith comes from, use it! I always say that we don't necessarily have to be religious to have faith, they are two different things. Wow, this is getting deep. All the best to your friend and his wife. For me, I have always been able to find a way out of a situation like that. But addiction was one for which at times, I felt there was no way out, that it was with me for life. In a way, it is, but I believe we can get to a point where we can control it. Relapse of course, is part of the process too.
@@davidostrowski679 I agree! Beautiful reflections and words... You should write a book about it. So you can get it deeper and perhaps help other people to fight against it by motivating them. I think you are right David people shouldnt judge people that go down that path because you never know what that other person has gone through! Like depesion , addiction is really hard to override because of the phsycological part. That train station really looks nice ! It looks like you are back in the UK the only thing you are missiong is cold weather and rain .
Uhhhh ... Brigadeiros Gourmet! We love it! Beco do Batman is for sure one of the coolest places we visited in São Paulo, and Vila Madalena has wonderful nightlife! We had an amazing time there! Yeah, we were at Estação da Luz a while ago to visit the "Museu da Língua Portuguesa", even before got fire, now we guess is working again, and we decided to walk from there to São Paulo's old downtown and we kind of crossed Cracolândia walking ... we were really scared and it's not a safe place to walk for sure, but its good to see the reality of big cities as São Paulo is. @@davidostrowski679 The good news about brigadeiros and coxinhas is that today there are Brazilians who work selling them anywhere in the world! Here in Montreal there are lots of people doing it for sale! If you are back to England, I am sure you find Bragadeiros over there 🤗
You're in Montreal? I love Montreal! Oh I haven't properly been in the UK since 2016, I'd never go back to that hole! I haven't even been to visit my Mum since before Covid. I'm an EU citizen though because of dual British/Polish nationality so I'm planning to move back to Europe soon (at last). Would love to come back to Montreal, been twice. Oh no I just remembered eggs benedict and Schwartz deli down st Laurent. Brilliant!

Let us know when you come back to Montreal and we can help you as local guides, this city has so much to explore and lots of places to eat other than Schwartz since it's a really eclectic culture! You can find the best bagels ever, pastéis de nata (Portuguese), with amazing All you can eat buffet with Mapple products and I believe you have tries "poutine"! 🤗
Loved it. Cool alley, a train station literally from the UK in SP (quite surreal actually, looks like any old bigger train station in the UK!) and seriously tasty looking brigadiero thingies, plus a great message at the end there not to look down on people struggling with addiction. Brilliant!

A fun fact is that Luz station was actually built in England and brought to SP in different parts by boat. When it got here, it was built all over again
Are you heading to Curitiba? South brazilians are a bit colder and quiet, but equally friendly and welcoming. Also, there are specims of trees called Araucarias (it has a wine glass shape), it's just magical. Those trees are from dinosaur's period. Exotic and charming. It worths noticing them. Have a nice trip!
Yes man in real time I got to Curitiba earlier this week! I'm staying in Portão purposefully just to get a bit more peace! Lol. Isn't there an area called Araucarias too? Love the bus system here! Got some videos planned here and places like Paranagua, Blumenau, Vila Velha etc (hopefully!)
@@davidostrowski679 Those cities are interesting! You just made good choices. There are plenty of areas with this name actually. This tree is Parana's state symbol and one of Brazil best known trees, just as Oak tree in Europe or Cypress in Middle Eastern.
I live in Curitiba in the Portão district, close to the Palladium mall. Araucaria is a city nearby in the metropolitan region, but there is not much to do there. In Curitiba I recommend Jardim Botânico, Largo da Ordem, Parque Barigui, Parque Tanguá, Ópera de Arame and of course the Madalosso restaurant, the largest restaurant in the Americas. These places you must know! Since you like the integrated bus system so much, I recommend visiting the Pinheirinho terminal, take the Pinheirinho - Santa Candida bi-articulated bus, it crosses almost the entire city in less than 01 hour. Curitiba is a city with 02 million inhabitants, very organized and calm, you will see a big difference.
Those steps with the butterfly 🦋 street art blew me away as did all the street art!! That was so cool. I want Brigadeiros so bad lve spent the entire afternoon figuring out how to make them yum yum yum. Since you mentioned it nope don't judge, that anatheathatist who kept you alive whilst you had your burst appendix taken out.... probably a high functioning crack addict, that fancy Lawyer representing people who claim they don't sweat, yup he's a high functioning crack addict, you just never know👍
Brigadeiros are very similar to a recipe I made up for a Christmas party with crushed pecans. Look up Mennonite Jiffy Fudge on Emmymade YT channel. I made the same mistake of eating too many, initially. The next batch, that I store in the freezer, are sprinkled with cacao nibs and covered in cocoa powder. I learned to make mine very ugly so no one will touch them.
@@ericreed4535: May l ask, the recipes say it takes till the condensed milk cocoa combo is thick but if you have made them how long would you estimate that it took you to get the right consistency, l don't want to stuff it up and it won't roll, do you have a rough idea how long you allow?
@@ericreed4535 : Hi there happy to report back, the recipe l used was 3 tablespoons of Cocoa, 1 large tablespoon of butter and 1 tin of condensed milk then at the very end once desired consistency is achieved add about 1 tablespoon of heavy cream. Now l did it low and slow over about 25 minutes on the gas burner and l could totally tell when the right consistency was achieved as the fudge would begin to hold shape in the pan. I then added the cream. The taste is like nothing lve ever tasted before it is dangerous!! I think l nailed it first go so thankyou. And yes the stuff in the pot l was not sharing with anyone!!
São Paulo tem a maior Parada Lgbtqia+ do mundo . São Paulo é a cidade mais mente aberta do Brasil , lá é comum ver tatuagem., casais lgbtq , cabelo coloridos . Mais nos outros Estados é diferente . No interior não há muita aceitação .
Obrigado por me avisar! Eu acho que é semelhante na maioria dos países. Por exemplo, Londres é obviamente muito receptiva e diversificada, alguns lugares menores em outros lugares com populações mais velhas ou menos diversificadas nem sempre seriam tão receptivos.
The art in the area looks spectacular! My favorite Brazilian sweets are pastel de guava e queijo and mousse de maracuja. I am obsessed with maracuja. 😍 So sad about crackolandia- I think this problem is growing around the world. Here in big cities of California it is a HUGE problem and got 10x worst after the Covid lockdowns. There are not enough resources for the victims so it grows more. I’m glad you were able to get yourself out of that problem- it takes ALOT of courage to do so.
