Other than one of the world’s most famous cathedrals, we didn’t really know what to expect in Cologne. What we found was a charming old town in the midst of a modern city, all situated on the beautiful Rhine River. We also found a very sobering experience in the El-De Haus, a museum that exposes the horrors experienced by Nazi prisoners and the formation of the Nazi party. Come along with us on our exploration of both the beauty and the lessons we must never forget.

We didn’t really have anything interesting or specifically German while we were in Cologne, so I didn’t show our lunch. I’m glad you found the rest helpful. Thanks for watching!

Great video. I am just wondering if ever a person has seen the Cologne cathedral without scaffolding. My guess is NO!

With the age of these old buildings and the damage constantly being done to them by the elements, I imagine it’s a never-ending task to keep them from falling apart.

@@TheWanderingWife yes it is. There is a colloquial here describing something as secure as the dom's stonemasson's job. It is build out of sandstone, so prone to withering and was hit by bombs in ww2 and has been a never-ending building site. Btw. It took nearly 800 years to complete and was upon completion for 1 week the tallest building in the world. Also we only finished it because we became part of prussia after the Napoleonic liberation wars and some famous poet used the picture of the incomplete dom as an analogy for the new prussian/ german mindset and it's in his opinion enormous dreams without the capability to live up to. Of course the prussians couldn't accept that and thus forced us (we are also known as the northern most italians and e.g. traditionally our weekend included monday, so the antithesis of the stereotypical hard working germans in the rest of our country) to finish it within in a couple of years upon them getting in charge. When the final construction phase began they even found a half a millennia old construction crane still standing on one of the towers.
