Given that the Turet is the Part of a Tank most likely to be hit, using "decapitatet" Hulls (instead of new ones) sounds very reasonable.

@@duytranuc4025 Mk103 has better penetration, but less explosive charge. The 37mm Flak 43 has longer range accuracy. The Coelian can survive close range frontal hits from Shermans and T-34s, the Kugelblitz cannot. The Coelian turret can traverse faster than the Kugel.

@@duytranuc4025 The Coelian turret would be available in autumn 1943. The Kugel turret was available in 1945, too late in the war. Coelian was the better choice. If necessary, they could have upgraded the Coelians twin Flak 43 with twin MK103 in 1944.

Just one thing I noticed throughout the complete videos on German WWII tanks: In German nobody would use the abbreviation "Ausf." as a word. We either say "Ausführung" or we just say - for example - "Panzer III G". It sounds real odd when somebody says "Panzer III Ausf G". We don't use our abbreviations like that unless they make up a "word" like "NATO". Apart from that this is a great channel with interesting videos.
@TanksEncyclopediaYT
@TanksEncyclopediaYT 2 года назад
All the love, but we're not going to force any of our narrators to say Ausführung 20 bloody times per video. The English language convention is that saying Ausf is an acceptable shorthand.

Oscillating turrets are great in an Anti-air application. In an anti-tank application? Not so much.

I think i read somewhere that the anti-tank application of a oscillating turret was to aid in the use of an autoloader system. no need to worry about getting the gun to line up with the autoloader if the gun is fixed in place.
@LuigianoMariano
@LuigianoMariano 2 года назад
@@Damien_N There are two major flaws with the Oscillating turret that excluded it from being a successful design for Tanks. 1. Obvious weak point in the bottom rear of the turret that was vulnerable to shells and infiltration by chemical weapons. 2. Excessive mechanical complexity which translated to higher costs of manufacture and maintenance.
@Damien_N
@Damien_N 2 года назад
@@LuigianoMariano ohh yes, you’re correct - there’s plenty of good reasons it didn’t catch on, furthermore, limited gun elevation because of the necessity of a turret bustle due to the need to store larger munitions invariably limits how high you can lift the gun.
@blackmark7165
@blackmark7165 2 года назад
isn't Oscillating turrets are best for light tanks as it enable light tank to carry heavier cannon, like how AMX-13 started with 75mm to 90mm and finally 105mm "1. Obvious weak point in the bottom rear of the turret that was vulnerable to shells and infiltration by chemical weapons" - which make it even better for light tank as protection is not really that important other than small arms

"60cm turret diameter? That's 24". That's got to be 60cm radius, at least, to fit 2 crew side by side plus the Mk103 cannons. Visibility looks like crap, and visibility is even more important than crew protection from ground fire. If you can't see the aircraft to engage them, then you are nothing but a larger Panzer II. Were the round things on the left and right turret hatches plexiglass windows or fume extractors? Kugelblitz in the Tiergarten, I walked in that exact spot 1989-90.

most tank had already enough armor to withstand machine gun and cannon fire from top so the best thing it can do is disable it with hitting the optics or a penetration through engine part, rocket are barely doing anything unless a direct hit which even inaccurate as hell even against static target (british tested this against a static, painted white Panther and barely direct hit) although it could do same effect as previous in disabling the tank or preventing it to participate in any action due to explosion around the tank
@yuurichito1439

The armored plates and ball had a combined armor of 50mm in the idel scenario and the ball itself is sloped in the front wich is pretty good protection.

For a most rational crew deploy, they could've modified the hull, eliminating the hull Mg, adding space for more ammo, the driver could handle the radio as in the PzIi, it was an interesting design, it's strange that the allies didn't made similar things for AA tanks after the war, f.e. the US never had a real modern AA tank, all their ones were open topped (until the embarassing M247😢)
