Danish Comfort Food! Oksekød i fad ("Beef in a Bowl") The first dish my husband cooked for me when we were courting in Luxembourg in 1994. From the Danish classic cookbook series, Karolines Køkken. More easy recipes and crafts here! ru-vid.com/group/PLxIYCyTLBED8ZP5_UDGRXUAvbPiuxOh95

You never have to apologize for its appearance when sharing an easy recipe with us. You’ll always have critics no matter what. We appreciate your time and effort in sharing these with us! And it looks delicious! Who doesn’t love easy comfort food. Blessings..

My husband brought me stuffed cabbage leaves. He is from Lebanon and really knows his way around a kitchen. He cooked it at his place and brought it all the way across town on the bus from his apartment to my house to bring it to me! Very nice memory!

Here in North Germany we have nearly the same recipe just that we put green beans in the beef and cheese on the top. We call it: Farmers baked bean pudding. My family loves it, as you say it is good comfy food. I Iove your videos.

Old friends and old cookbooks are both priceless...I still make certain things out of the Purity Flour cookbook we were given in Grade 9 home economics class back in 1969! Good basic food never goes out of style.

What a sweet gesture from your hubby! My husband doesn't cook either and thankfully, is very happy no matter what is set in front of him for dinner! He is very good at cleaning up though! I love hearing the recipes, stories and traditions!! You put a smile on my face every day!

You are absolutely right! There are things that are so comforting to cook and eat because of the memories related to them and the joy they bring us. There is no better reason to eat something than because it makes you happy! Thank you for sharing! Even the things that aren't "classy" or "elegant" are still extremely valuable, important, and special. I'm totally going to try this recipe!

My nan gave me my first be ro book when I was a teen, it's my first port of call for all things cake and pastry! Still has the yellow wool in it that she used to repair the spine! When she passed away I also kept hold of her original copy. Mines the 40th edition, hers is the 21st. Don't think I'll ever declutter that!

There is absolutely nothing to feel ashamed of such a comforting food. I think it's great to have a recipe at hand for a quick whip ups. Since I haven't made it for a very long time, will make it in the near future. Thanks for the video Diane. 🌷🍰🤗👍🙂💝

You always make me think of so many things - I have an old old Joy of Cooking cookbook. My mother and grandmother and great aunt cut recipes from the newspaper or copied recipes down from radio programs. My mother put mashed potatoes over many things. Beef in a Bowl sounds good! My favorite comfort food growing up was what my mother called goulash (it wasn't the European version :). Our goulash was browned ground beef (homegrown) with onions, diced tomatoes (from our garden), diced green pepper, with cooked elbow macaroni and cheddar cheese added at the end. My grown children still swoon over that dish and say, to this day, it is their favorite food! Good food...the tie that binds

I really enjoy your little anecdotes that accompany all your videos Diane... I can't believe how you can recall so much detail from your time in Scotland and Luxembourg.... So many of your memories prompt me to remember aspects of my past years - especially the major cook up on Sundays! Absolutely! When the oven was on, it was full steam ahead.... anything and everything that could cook in the oven was whipped up by me and my mum.... she still does it to this day... and I just take advantage of it by dropping in and picking up all the goodies - hehe! Go you for resisting the temptation of butter and milk in the mash... I would have dolloped half the butter slab in there.LOL! Are you kidding?!! That certainly is not a disgusting meal... looks identical to my take on a Shepard's Pie!.. Nothing beats the warmth and cosiness of a "pie" for dinner .... Bon appetite Diane! x

My husband fixed me Poulet Rochambeau! A recipe from Brennan's Restaurant in New Orleans. I thought he could actually cook until he got the strainer out to get the flour lumps out of the sauces. lol Tasted delicious. I still make it for him each birthday after 45 years of marriage. Fond memories.

I like seeing recipes like this. Everyone looks so abashed at showing simple comfort food recipes, but I never learned any such recipes as a kid so I'm only learning how to make all the comfort items only now and love hearing different people's versions to try.

Ahh, thank you for sharing Diane... always so entertaining and informative, I enjoy it! You should not apologize for comfort food not looking beautiful..I always tell my husband that so often, the simple foods and simple dinners are the best. (and Mmmmmm.....nothing wrong with canned pears) Sometimes we spend so much time trying to make everything fancy that the simple comforting flavor is lost ;) Here in the US, I think that macaroni (pasta) and cheese with breadcrumbs on the top is the pedestal of comfort foods :D For our 1st dinner together, like 27 years ago.....my husband surprised me with spaghetti and marinara meat sauce and chocolate cake for dessert. Something so special about knowing that they thought ahead to create something special to make us, isn't it?

Yes...I have some cookbooks similar to the ones you showed. Only in english. The meat in a bowl reminded me of shepard's pie....layered browned ground beef, cream corn and topped with mashed potatoes. A comfort food from my childhood that became a comfort food to my DD's. Yeah, to our hearty childhood!!! I didn't get to spend very much time with my grandmother (she was scottish) she passed soon after I was born but, I am told she was a very good cook....I can only imagine what her kitchen looked like....I love that your hubby gave it a go at cooking a meal for you!!!

Diane, this looks delicious! I also adore alliteration, and have lots of "silly" names for family recipes (usually comfort food). Like "Chilly Pasta"-which used to be a catch-all for about 3-5 cold pasta variations, but now actually has solidified into a rather elegant-yet-filling filling pasta salad with specific ingredients-or "Dino Mac" which is jazzed-up blue-box macaroni and cheese with browned-up ground beef folded in. One tends the ground beef as it cooks so that it does not break up too much; the chunks should be 3/4 of an inch or more-BIG chunks, "like dinosaur eggs".) I think this menu you share looks great; maybe I'll try it this week! The cookbook show-and-tell was the best part!

Hi Diane, I loved my Be-Ro book and it helped me to pass my cookery o level. When my dear Nana died I inherited hers (which I still have) and the Christmas cake recipe is held I place by the old mixture and the print is brown and white! I have very fond memories of her making Australian crunchy brownies (or words to that effect) ahhhh happy days.

Diane great video! I’ve added oksekød i fad to next weeks menu plan. My Dane should love it 😉 I, too, love ketchup chips/crisps and stock up when I find them. As a child we always set the table after doing dishes. My Mum said it was Edwardian style? I did it with my kids and do it most days now that we are only two at home. It is a good way to keep unwanted items off the table. We went one better and eliminated the table in our kitchen and now use our dining room much more which is lovely. I turned the space in the kitchen where the table was to a breakfast/coffee/tea prep space. Love it. I think the first thing my Dane cooked for me was salmon with dill sauce. The poor soul didn’t know me well enough at the time that I very much dislike dill. The salmon was wonderful.

Ha ha! Loved this- what lovely memories! I still use my mum’s Bero cookbook to make pancakes and a white sauce! The Eve’s pudding and chocolate sponge are firm favourites too 😄 we were never allowed Smash- I think my mum thought it was too expensive but I do remember my brother thinking we were incredibly lucky to eat a Findus Crispy pancake!

❣Hi, Diane, minced meat is always nice for vegetarians;-)... because even at LIDL we can meanwhile buy minced and roasted Soja Granulate, which tastes very good:-), so I'll make that for sure! There are days where I use such recipes as kind of medicine. My usual medicine is CHILI SIN CARNE with slices of fresh tomatoes and spring onions on top and my husbands is YUMYUM soup with spring onions and fresh champignons on top... I've a lot of cooking books, sigh, because i started cooking quite early( love suffer at the age of 16...), but I must admit, that i use the internet a lot for new recipes. Our Danish friends are about 10 years older and gave me a lot of quite old Danish veggie recipe books, which I love and use, These I'll keep for sure. Haha, maybe we met your DH in Århus...my DH worked there for a month as a teacher in 1985, and I was with him, we met a lot of students in the outdoor Pizzerias;-) and enjoyed this lovely city, the near beach and the woods, we were both at MARSELISLØBET...well, Memory lane is too long to continue;-). I think the first meal my DH made for me was 'uovertruffelig' in its simplicity, a recipe from his home in summer: in one pot together boiled potatoes and a cauliflower, broken in pieces, then you put away the water, and give it a good top of BROWNED BUTTER, Muskat and salt. We eat ( and enjoy) it until today. Thank you so much for this nice start of the day, love, Monika❣

Hey, I think your dinner looks pretty darn good! I used to make a dish when my children were small that used a lot of ketchup too. It's also very simple, using sliced round steak simmered in sauce and served over noodles. It was good then and it's still good now. Hmm, now I want some :)!

Just wondering if your Heinz products are imported? Here they are produced in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania which is about an hour drive away. Most Cadbury chocolate in the US is made by Hershey and is not nearly as good as that made in Bourneville England.
