I am so mesmerized that I think I have watched this video 150 times already, and there is no other 2023 entry that even comes close. It’s quite something too when the live performance ends up being more exciting and striking than the official video, which in itself is a wonder to behold!

The song is about a guy drinking at the club and gathering courage to start dancing. The first ”angry” part represents his inner turmoil, it’s the build up to second part, which is the sense of liberation when he’s finally drunk enough to hit the dancefloor and act silly. That’s why he first sings inside confined space, and then they open it up for the second part and they’re all over the place

I'm Finnish and I'm so glad we chose Käärijä. The songs is so good, Käärijä is such a funny and goofy dude (as seen on his tiktok lol) and I've been hoping we would send a song that's in finnish for a while. Love it!!

The dancers are so expressive and the "EI!" is so dominant. Lyrics about finnish stereotypic way of gaining confidence by drinking alcohol. The lyrics are quite witty, really compressed and must sound to a non-native speaker like a machine gun. 😊

I love the song! The songs for Finland’s song contest this year were all really great and I’m still listening to them! I first listened to all the songs via the music videos that were released and so I was curious how they would translate to stage. I watched the livestream of the show and loved how each song was staged. Each was very creative and went well with the song. I’m glad you watched the live performance instead of the music video. While the music video is also fun, I feel like the live performance gives us the idea of how it will be at Eurovision. I don’t speak Finnish nor am I from Finland (I’m American), so I won’t explain the interpretation of the song or the performance. I read it via Finns’ explanations in the comments of the music video, performance video, and reaction videos I’ve watched AND they explain it so incredibly well! So hopefully your Finn viewers will comment and share their excellent interpretation information about the song and performance for you. That is one of the reasons I often watch reaction videos is because fans from those countries will comment and explain things! And I definitely enjoy getting interpretations from the folks from the nations the songs/artists/performances represent. I’ve definitely misinterpreted things or been confused by things only to have someone from that culture explain things and I’m just like “oooooh, that makes so much more sense! I see that! That’s creative!” Because honestly even when I do understand the lyrics (I know English, French, and Spanish), the lyrics alone don’t necessarily help me fully understand what’s being expressed since I lack the cultural understanding that I feel is often necessary to sometimes interpret Eurovision songs and performances. And that’s why I love Eurovision. I get to discover new artists, hear and appreciate new music, and learn about the various diverse cultures of the peoples that are represented in Eurovision. You can’t get that from watching the Olympics (only from the host country during the opening and closing ceremonies and not every nation even wants to host the Olympics, plus the Olympics isn’t an annual thing either). Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy the Olympics, but Eurovision allows a lot more cultural representation than the Olympics ever could (unless the Olympics literally changed to not just be about international sport and include a lot more art; and I don’t see that happening). Encyclopedia was a nickname of mine in school. In elementary school it started because I often was reading Encyclopedia Brown books. By junior high and high school it was based on the fact that if I didn’t know about something asked then I’d go and research the topic in the library which included looking through the encyclopedias there. I’d then later share whatever I learned, though would often have to remind people they had asked about it. I’m still like that, although no one calle me encyclopedia anymore. But hearing one of you refer to the other as encyclopedia made me laugh because I totally understand the sentiment behind giving someone such a title. I also liked the “rolodex in his mind” line. I’d love to say that’s how my brain organizes information, but it’s a lot more like a messy file cabinet where it’s all just been thrown into one drawer. As some of my friends can attest, a conversation with me can be meandering as we start out on a topic, move between several other topics that might seem completely unrelated, only to arrive back at the original topic and me providing the last bit of information. So asking me a question like “who came in 3rd in 1986” wouldn’t just be me providing the answer, but meandering through information that I find interesting and feel adds layers of context before I finally reveal what most other people would have just said right away. For most of my friends they enjoy it because we converse through it (they often provide additional information I didn’t know which adds even more context), but I have some friends who prefer that I just answer simply. Of course these are the same friends for whom one question becomes twenty questions and instead of it being a conversation it’s just them asking questions and me providing the simplest answer. And most of the time everything they asked could have been answered if it had been done the way my other friends and I do it via conversation. I don’t mind. Everyone is different at how they approach thing. I’m generally just happy they’re interested in something. I’m also a lot of my friends and even my family’s research person. They know I’ll look up information, contact related people or organizations and so on, etc to figure stuff out. I don’t mind. I find it fun most of the time. Great reaction! The first syllable in "Käärijä" is the same as in "cat". It's a long sound, almost like if you are calling for the cat😆(This is what I learned from a YT-tutorial). So, the "ä" sound is the same as in "cat", ää = long sound.
