As a Finnish, this is _not_ a song about toxic masculinity. This is about Finnish people. We may seem very unemotional, reversed and anti-social while sober, that's just our culture. The same thing applies to women too, it's a stereotype of the Finns (which often applies). But when we hit the booze, we become completely different people. The song is about escapism from the mundane, from the normal, from the annoying, from work, from school, from unemployment, from world's problems. It's about forgetting your problems for a brief moment and going to the dance floor worriless. It encourages people to dance and not worry about the mundane.

@@Kostis_ESC Well I wrote how this song has a similar construction like the Finnish church hymns. In the beginning your earthly life is hard. Then you go to your place of religious practice like a sauna, church, temple or in this case bar and your sour mind and hard core start to melt down. In the end your heard and mind is open and you are as welcome to dance as the other angels in heaven/paradise/nirvana and you are not afraid of this world or life. We are all some kind imperfect angels, aren’t we? Everybody is welcome to dance and the style is free on the life’s dancefloor.

The message for this song is pretty clear if you speak finnish. It’s all about stereotypical finnish male getting brave enough to dance only after getting hammered. It’s also why the song has two different parts/themes. First one is just the guy being kinda of exhausted and wanting forget the worries/work/etc by drinking. The last part is him being drunk and relaxed and finally doesn’t give a flying F anymore so he can even go to dance. Thus the awkward dance moves on the stage. I can relate to this as can my fellow finns really easily but if some other people find a new meaning for the song, then go for it. 😊
@sharkan44
@sharkan44 Год назад
I think it can be interpreted as getting free from social oppression in general, including toxic masculinity or being shy. The literal story is about being tired and having drinks but I believe it can be seen from much broader perspective.

Obsessed. This is super fun, super catchy. Liverpool will LOVE it! 👊🤩🔥On the other hand - something quite deep is being conveyed here on how we perceive ourselves - how we feel we are meant to be and act. It's not until we've had quite a few pina coladas that we throw off that tough or aloof act and just be ourselves or bring out our best dance moves. Kinda sad really.😳 CHACHA CHA!

This is exactly why I didn't prefer this song. It's like telling to Europe that after few drinks we Finns are actually nice people. Luckily song is in Finnish lol. This is my opinion, everyone has a different approach and taste. I like Gustaph from Belgium, that is catchy and good fun. But last night when I saw Loreen I was left mouth open. Swedes are simply professional what becomes to music, they know what sells and I am not talking about just eurovision.
@miafyra5149
@miafyra5149 Год назад
@@mikrologia7455 Swedes know how to make a good staging etc. They are professionals. There is a difference between mentalities in Finland and Sweden when you talk about making music or being a musician: in Finland that is seen just like some kind of hobby but not a profession if you don’t make or play classical music and in Sweden it is seen to be a decent profession if you make music or are a musician. I think Käärijä tries to tell that everybody is welcome and good enough to dance and get wild, leave the pressure for a while - with or without alcohol. Piña colada was not some kind of trend drink in Finland last week. As a guy, who has a scar in his stomach after a sickness and operations, he has to drink more vichy water than alcohol. In Finland you need guts to that one who is sober but tends to take his shirt off and party on gigs. That scar is not so bad handicap in Finland as that you don’t drink alcohol. Thanks God for sober curious phenomenon! It’s easier to say I’m sober curious now than explain how I’ll get instantly headache if I drink alcohol. And yes: many times foreign people think I have to be drunken, because I dance all nights long and even on the streets on my way home.

Finnish doesn't have gendered He/She pronouns so when directly translating from Finnish most people use "They" but on the official UMK English pages Käärijä is referred with He/Him pronouns.

The analytics for the video... the ring of pallets is his "shyness" he wants/needs to break, and when the pallets open comes in the dancing part as lyrics say it too... just a fun fact those Euro pallets are called "eurolava" in Finnish and "lava" translates into stage. little bit humour/irony there.. and the Cha dancers might be his drinks ... it hits the lyrics quite right

The dancers in my understanding represent his free self that he is afraid to let loose when sober/in the everyday mundane life. See how he is holding and controlling the dancers=his willing to be freer and wilder, in the beginning, then he lets them loose, and with that allows himself to feel and behave diffetently.

see the shy man in his shell (green cocoon) transforms to the Caterpillar stage as he consumes beer and Pina Colada before pouring champagne over himself and leaping to the dance floor. The dull beat at the start is his dull working life (industrial crates). The rest is a complete contrast. It is all very meaningful visually even if you don't understand Finnish.

"They" has grammatically been used also in the singular for hundreds of years, so it's not really about wanting to be plural. It's just about referring to someone without placing them into an either male or female gender. 👍🏻

Finnish as a non-Indo-European language they have only one third person singular pronoun hän So Jere Pöyhönen a.k.a. Käärijä has the interesting problem that pronouns are not an issue in Finnish (nor Estonian which is related).
