4:19 I looked it up, and the Hunter is fine, and said this about the encounter: “I am so happy after this confrontation with a black bear during our spring hunt. No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down. Genuinely happy that this was a non-fatal or tragic outcome. Proving that the black bear is a wild and unpredictable animal. Again, so happy with the outcome.”

The guy tackled by the bear wasn't speaking a foreign language. It was just a Native/Indigenous man yelling English words to try and scare it. He was out hunting. In a Canadian accent, heh. And he was fine by the way, just got knocked over and then the bear ran away. Assumed to be a young one that was unsure of itsself.

These are zoo park animals. They have never been in the wild so it would be unwise to place them in that situation. These animals were not taken from the wild but rather bred in captivity and shared with accredited wildlife parks around the world in a wildlife conservation program. Large cats such as Amur tigers, cheetahs, leopards, are highly endangered and are hunted. The viewing area you see is just the public area. These cats do have other spaces to go and hide in the exhibits. Most, however are used to seeing people so they gravitate to the viewing window. Also notice that the cat is outside and the people are in an enclosed area.

Mountain gorillas (silverbacks refer to the male of the species) would not fair well in a fight with a grizzly bear. In addition to the bear having claws, the bear is also about 2 feet taller when they are both standing and the gorilla weighs about HALF what the bear weighs. Also, the bear has a faster ground speed. The bear has an immense strength and leverage advantage.

It depends upon the zoo, but most humane zoo's and sanctuaries have animals that simply just can't live in the wild. It can be due to injury or they've been raised in captivity and can't fend for themselves.

I think a big Grizzly would thrash a Gorilla. The bear would be so much bigger, and it would have claws and huge teeth with a powerful bite. A Gorilla is nothing to mess with obviously. I just think a Grizzly would win easily.
@angiepen
@angiepen 2 года назад
I agree. Also add in the fact that gorillas are herbivores. Yes, they're strong and tough and fierce, but gorillas fight to defend their families, and the males fight each other for dominance and mating rights (and hardly ever kill each other). Bears fight because they're hungry, and if they're unsuccessful at it, they starve to death. I would think that'd give the bear another edge, aside from its physical advantages.

@@Wxqzq9826 Yes, big teeth. No, they *are* herbivores. The size and strength -- they're one of the most radical cases of sexual dimorphism in the mammal world, IIRC -- is all because of the males fighting with each other for dominance, which leads to mating rights. Bigger and stronger gorillas win the fights, and get to mate and pass on their genes, rinse/repeat.

No we don't have huge brown bears but I've had face to face encounters with a couple of cougars and an elk. Thankfully the warning shot did the trick and they thought better on it and left. One of the cougars I came face to face with was clearly emaciated. Nothing but that gun shot was going to ward it off.

Proper zoos (rescue and endangered animal breeding zoos) separate the annoying humans from the animals quite a bit from their enclosure and distract and feed the animals quite a lot so they don't really feel the need to go into hunt mode as that is dangerous for both the keepers and the animal.

Here in parts of Texas we have a huge problem with feral pigs. They can get freaking huge and in parts of east Texas have actually been observed killing alligators. They'll charge people without warning and they can hurt you or worse.

@christianoliver3572
@christianoliver3572 2 года назад
@@PatrickDaviswimiwamwamwazzle And they cause amazing damage to agriculture in parts of Texas. It happens in places you wouldn't necessarily think of like up around Tyler where many of our best vintners or wine makers are they can kill rows upon rows of grape vines overnight Around central Texas they'll kill your veg patch if you don't happen to be a farmer and if you do happen to be a farmer you can expect to lose 10%-15% of your crops. Standard fencing can't stop them even 'bob-wor' - barbed wire because they just burrow under. And it's expensive to eradicate them as in some parts of Texas you'll end up having to hire a helicopter, a pilot and a guy that can shoot really well or you'll pay someone to trap the damn things. One thing though - the meat is damn tasty and it's cheap because it can't really be commercially sold

There have always been feral pigs in most of the Eastern and southern US. The problem became really serious after a number of game hunting reserves went bust in the 70's or 80's (I think - not really sure about the dates). They had huge Russian wild boars that were simply let loose and interbred with the local feral pigs. The resulting hybrids are much more dangerous than the original feral pigs were.

Gorilla vs Grizzly: They both have impressive teeth and strength, but the grizzly also has big claws on its serving platter-sized paws. The grizzly would have a significant size advantage and are faster runners on average (at a sprint). As a few have noted the bike/bear clip is 100% fake. That bear's top speed would easily fall around 50 kph. The only way an average rider is hitting that speed is downhill on a smooth surface. Beyond which, that gap between them would have disappeared in a heartbeat of that guy stopping, and even if we trust the clip to that point, it wouldn't have just walked off after such a chase... It would have been all of 10 seconds for the bear to catch his scent.

Ages ago I took my 2 youngest to a big cat sanctuary. They had 2 Siberian Tigers, male and female and they had a litter of cubs. The 2 adults were in an outdoor enclosure which was a domed fence. About 6 feet back was another fence maybe 3 or 4 feet high. We were all walking along on the tour to see the cubs and I turned my back to my daughter to answer a question my son asked. Maybe 10 seconds. But in that time my 5 year old had climbed over that fence and was sitting there with her arm inside that cage scratching and petting the male. Everyone started to panic and the owner was trying to get everyone to calm down and not make any loud noises. And there was my baby sitting there giving this huge tiger belly rubs and singing to him. The owner went in to the outer fence and got her but there was never any aggression on the tigers part. He seemed perfectly happy. We on the other hand were banned from coming back there.

I once saw a Tiger vs Grizzly debate and I summed it up like this: if the Grizzly Bear was just coming out of hibernation, skinny and weak and the Tiger got the jump on it grabbing it by the throat and began to suffocate the bear, it would not matter since the bear has twenty 6 inch claws that would disembowel the Tiger. If the Tiger managed to hang on and the bear suffocates, the Tiger would soon follow in death due to bleeding out.

Also im pretty sure the bear chasing the guy on the bike...is fake. The guy with the bow....turned out to be a false charge ( he tripped over the trees and fell the bear turned and ran off. I guess the bear took issue with the hunter wanting to put an arrow in him......🙄

I saw a show years ago about which animal would win against another. It's computer animated of course but uses real data and statistics to make the determination. Maybe you could find clips? Don't recall the name.

Considering that a grizzly bear can reach 35mph (56kph) and a professional cyclist doesn't reach that on a flat road... that was either a slow bear, or one that wasn't really that intent on catching the bike rider. Which follows, since he didn't track him down on foot. Still very scary.

I thought the same, a bear could chase you down even on a bike. Looked like fancy editing to me though, the lighting on the bear didn't match the lighting in the woods. The bear was probably clipped from a different vid and inserted into this one.

A bear can run at maximum speed for 2 miles at most. If the trail/road is long enough, the bear never catches a strong cyclist. It would need something like that tree branch to stop them. And if the video WAS real, then the bike must have gotten caught because every cyclist in that situation knows that the bike can be used as a defensive weapon if necessary.

@@lougiacobbi725 Lou, having been up close and personal with bears, when it comes to out running a bear - bicycle or no, it really is simply a matter of how hard the bear is willing to work to catch you... most of the time they are either investigating, or challenging... they don't often follow through... just as that bear didn't follow him once he was on foot.

@@gordonpatton7507 I'm ok with the video - a bear chasing a bike is not in the strictest sense, and attack. The bear might have been asserting a territorial claim, or just investigating something that he was unfamiliar with... who knows? But yeah, that bear wasn't even trying hard.

@@theblackbear211 I've never seen a grizzly, but I've been around my share of black bears (Eastern US). My opinion is probably colored by the size differential, as biking away and using the bike to defend seems much more feasible with the smaller type of bear.

That video of the cyclist in the woods being chased by the brown bear is fake. Brown Bears can run upwards of 35-40mph, so he would have caught the guy on the bike, because there is no way he was pedaling a mountain bike that fast in the mud. Brown bears also possess a keen sense of smell, so when he got off the bike and "hid" behind the tree? If that bear was truly after him, he would have found him. If that isn't enough to convince you, the video footage was also analyzed, and there are a few still frames that you can clearly see the bear was added in and not a part of the recording itself.

There's one compilation in which a hiker is on a wood plank trail and suddenly a full grown puma runs right past them, close enough to brush them. That one is so heart-poundong because pumas have been known to stalk and kill humans.

When my dad was about 4 years old they had a large gander goose that really had it out for him. He would charge at my dad, beating him with his wings and pecking. One day my dad was running away and tried to get through a barbed wire fence. One of the barbs caught the corner of his mouth and ripped it open, leaving a large scar that he had all his life. When I was a kid on on that same farm, one of my grandfather's turkeys attacked my grandmother injuring her pretty bad. My grandfather picked up a board and beat the turkey to death on the spot. Yes birds can be dangerous!

I’m so thrilled with the privilege of viewing these animals in zoos, but most of the people reacting are foolish and careless. It’s sad. The bicyclist vs bear was shocking and scary! As for a gorilla 🦍/Katmai bear matchup, they both have overwhelming strength, but I’d bet on the bear, who also has massive claws and teeth in his arsenal. Your reaction was priceless!!

Gorilla vs. a "black" or "brown" bear, I'd go with the gorilla, but against a grizzly bear, I'd have have to go with the grizzly. They are too powerful and have those huge claws.

I'm almost entirely certain the one with the bear and the biker is a well done fake. If it were real, the bear would've had him easily since they can run up to 35 mph in short bursts, plus it wouldn't lose you just because you walked at most 50 feet off trail in light woods.

Wild hogs aren't anything you want to tangle with, but even domestic pigs can be dangerous. Males are extremely aggressive and territorial when they're rutting, and if you get too close to a new litter of piglets, the mother will try her very best to stomp you into the ground.

Hmmm... well the Largest Silverback in Captivity weighs in at 860 pounds. (391kg) If I had to make an estimate, I would say that none of the bears in this video topped 600 pounds. (~270kg) So, I'm going to call this pretty even. But if we compare largest with largest? The largest Kodiak Bear (ever recorded) (a sub species of the Grizzley) weighed in at 1,656 pounds (751kg) and the largest Polar Bear (ever recorded) (since we saw some in the video) weighed in at 2,209 pounds (1,002 kg).... Yeah, I don't think that is even a discussion. Oh, and if you think that the door on a car, or even a building, is going to stop even a "mere" 200 pound bear from getting in... if they really want in... you have never seen what a bear is capable of.
